Hi Everyone,

For DCI tournament play the following section from the SWM DCI Floor Rules describes the Squad Registration Requirement:

613. Squad Registration
A player must register his or her squad, recording all models and selected terrain map to be used, before the start of the first round of play. In constructed tournaments, players may not change their squad or terrain map during the tournament. In Limited tournaments, players may only change their squad or terrain map if a new set of sealed product is opened or a new draft occurs.

I've scoured the WotC site and other resources and haven't found an example of a squad registration form that our local venue could use come game day. Instead of using blank sheets of paper or Magic deck registration sheets (as we've been doing), I finally broke down and created one myself.

It isn't all that amazing but there is a convenience/efficiency factor that I am hoping to achieve. i.e. players pre-completing before tourney(saving time), easier to check for accuracy, allows TO to more easily/quickly enter player data in DCI_Reporter system, etc.

Here is the link to download the file: (Logo in black or white)

You are welcome to use it if you want, I owe thanks to LFL for the borrowed graphics and Boba Fonts for the cool Star Wars script.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Pretty cool. This would've been nice at GenCon.
Suggestions:
1-I don't think it needs to say Star Wars Miniatures & Role PLaying Games.
I don't think anyone will be using this for role playing. There's a Star Wars Miniatures logo on the very page I'm writing this reply on.
2-How about maybe a squad name line? May be fun.
3-Is there a back side to this? Some people are going to have more than 10 activations. Granted some will be multiple non-uniques but you may want to have spaces on the back or instruct people to just write them on the back even if there aren't printed lines.
4-Am I wrong or does it not matter what the squad point total with reinforcements is? You have your squad total & your reinforcements total. It seems their total together doesn't matter. Besides, those could change from game to game. Is it necessary to list them? If so, it would have to be after they are revealed.
True, the banner isn't perfect in that regard, but I resolved to myself that it was a cool enough graphic and fit the spirit of what I was trying to represent. (black and white/iconic figures) If there is something out there better I would be open to trying that out.
2-How about maybe a squad name line? May be fun.
Great suggestion! I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it most folks do seem to like to put personalized names to their squads. I'll put that on my list of enhancements.

I wrestled with that one a bit and left it as is pending community feedback. I figured with multiples the number of unique figures would be 10 or less, but I think you are right on that.

Honestly, I added this in but was fuzzy on how reinforcements worked in terms of game setup and registration. Neither I or anyone I've played with has used reinforcements before... so there you go. I think it would probably make sense therefore to cut that out and in response to your suggestion #3, add more lines for the squad build section.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Hopefully I'll get some more feedback and then I'll take to working on a few fixes and repost.

Bye for now!
Squad total points and Reinforcement points are separate items.

That is, if you play Lobot in a 150-point squad, you wouldn't have 170 points in your squad - you would have up to 150 points of characters who count for victory points, and up to 20 points of characters who do not count for victory points (since they are Reinforcements).

Back on topic - I've never attended GenCon, but from Boris' report last year, it seems that players weren't required to list down their Reinforcement options on their registration forms. I guess this was done to solve the issue of players who carried many sets of possible Reinforcements around.

Hope this helps

That is the point of Reinforcement, so you can tailor your squad to the specific fight. You are allowed to carry around many possible reinforcements groups, so you can choose the best one for the fight.

I know this.

The discussion was about how a form could be drafted to account for possible Reinforcements. So, I just brought up the point I remembered.

Hope this clears up the intent of my previous post

Oh :D.

You could just leave reinforcements off of the sheet.

Biggest issue I see is the colors on the sheet. The big block of black at the top will waste a lot of ink and I'm not sure that highlighting everything in blue is necessary either. Again, waste of ink. Beyond that I just echo what people have said about not needing the reinforcement area and neeming more space for the actual squad (assuming people bring more than 10 different characters, and I do from time to time).
Good point - although the blue is not actually printed... it is just an Adobe feature that "highlights" the fields so they are more easily recognized visually. In any case, I came to realize your point about it being pretty heavy on the ink after printing off several for the tournament we just ran today. Perhaps simpler is better although it does look pretty cool in my opinion. I'll see what I can do about that.

Yep... I'll be fixing that one for sure. Thanks for the feedback!
Since I will most likely be organizing things at GenCon 2009, I would love it if you would send me the copy of the file you used that I could print off. You coule PM me if you like or email at JFraser756@hotmail.com.
