Seriously, I am finding a lot of these articles (Behind the Threat and Power Beyond Belief) to be patronising and insulting.

We don't need to be told this stuff. We can do it ourselves. Maybe if people spent a bit less time having urinating contests over every little thing and a bit more time actually putting their minds towards making interesting NPCs and scenarios, and maybe actually collaberating instead of competing, then the writers could give us something worth having.

Planet Hoppers was good. I liked that, and I'd actually have a use for that, but being told how to make Sith is just meaningless to me.
More planets, less "NPC Design for Dummies".

Not everyone has the talent to build the perfect sith character or stunning NPC. This will help them along and having urinating contests has nothing to do with it. Besides some people think the Unleashed Urinator feat is a requirement to post on the boards :D

True, I just think it would be better if the community handled "training the newbies" instead of WotC.
That would free up WotC to make articles that everyone (veterans and newbies alike) can use.

PJR,

I think you have a good point however, as a counter point, I would like to say that some Newbies will not nessecarily join the forums. Forums scare some people away, so if he Newbies never come here the Veterans can't help them. Therefore, you need some stuff on the website to help them. (Also I have seen some of the disagreements in the forums and can see people being scared away or at least scared of posting. Not as bad here as some other sites, but still...)

Thanks,
Duncan

So far I do like the Behind the Threats series. This one started pretty well, but once it got to the build crunch it totally fell apart. I am happy to say that after our comments here the other BtTs have been revised to correct information. Hopefully that will happen again here.

The whole character builds section need fixed. It has at least two MAJOR errors. First off, Sith Apprentice requires you to BE 7th level before entering the class. That means Sith Apprentice starts at 8th level. That will give all the builds at least one extra "base" class feat.

The worst error was that the Fallen Jedi build treats the feat Force Training as a class bonus skill for Jedi. Force Training can only be gained with the Character level feats, not the class bonus feats. The sad thing is that they talk about the distinction in Class bonus vs character bonus in the first part of the article.

So, the building section needs a major rewrite and the first part of the article needs some minor corrections. I hope this gets cleaned up soon, because it could really give some newbies the wrong information.

Thanks,
Duncan

A small nitpicky question: shouldn't Bane's and Palpatine's pictures be switched? Bane is the Warrior and Palpatine the Manipulator.

I think that the Behind the Threat articles are a good idea, but implemented the wrong way. Especially when they did the level builds, that made no sense.

What I would have preferred is something along the lines of "Building a Better Bad Guy", not just Sith BBEGs.

Well, Bane created the network that Palpatine would, 1000 years later, use to finish off the Jedi.
And Palpatine took four Jedi masters, 1:1...well, at least three, depending on whether you think Palpatine threw it or not.
That said -- great little article. It's good to see content being made that addresses core ideas in a thought-out way, and encourages player-made content to expand past that.

so yes, it's correct

Ok - I figured I missed something somewhere...so I only have the one issue with the article.

This article IMNSHO can be of help to both newibes and oldies...I means its just like the JC articles only focusing on a specif topic
Proof that your game isn't the "red head step child"
In 2002 D20 modern was published
Good support to begin with
D20 future was published with little to no thought about the Core book
Down hill spiral
In 2005 we are promised a full fleged campaign called Project Javelin
2005 is the last year that Notes from the bunker is published
2006 is the last time that Bullet Points is published along with the last Web enhancement
2006 Frist and last adventure for Project Javelin is published
2006 The last book Dark Matter is published
2008 During an interview on the illfated Radio Gamer Zero podcast Chris Perkins says they wll work on a new D20 modern in 2009
Forums are reorginzied consistenly causing the d20 modern forum existence to hang in the blance and many members of that community to openly rebel aginst WotC
So really when you whine and moan that your game is the "red headed step child" remeber the above history lesson.

What do IMNSHO and JC mean?

I liked the article despite the mistakes of the builds (which should be fixed up, especially if this article is aimed at new players). I'm not a new player but I still find articles like this interesting and worth a read and I would be quite happy to see more.
