If you guys who think you beat the system with a rust monster really wanna try it, Go for it... But until we even get a Rust monster in a LFR mod, this whole topic is Moot. And even if we did get one, i doubt we would see more than one, so if your characters life quest goal to kill a rust monster so be it, Ive got bigger evils to battle.
Thos as some one mentioned before, If its mundane, then it has to be listed as a bundle for you to get it, and i doubt the writers will give full value for residium "IF" they reward it at all.

Anything more about this?
I'm thinking that if they rule that the residuum from the rust monster can be used to buy back the item you made with it, there is nothing stopping me from using Disenchant Magic Item (with no component cost, once per day as an Artificer) and then going to the store and buying whatever item I want with that equivalent amount of residuum.
It would have made more sense (for the rules of LFR) if the Rust Monster pooped gold in the value of the weapon or armor it ate, instead of residuum, but I guess they did it as residuum so they could, yet again, screw the players.

I guess some of you want to play through my my realms adventure Lords of Dust, where evil goblin shamans control rust monsters into eating all your magic items for fun and profit.
Yeah guys I didn't really write an adventure like this, but you can be sure there will be people who have their 1-10 items eaten in a MYRE and use the money for profit.
Its a door that needs to be closed.

I've already plotted out a 4-7 MYRE with an Tomb Tainted Feyborn Rust Monster. No one said they had to be able to get their stuff back. When it gets down to threatening life levels (or after it's eaten some stuff) it turns tail and flees. Hastily. If they want to try to make money using the rust monsters, they need to accept that sometimes, the bad, evil monsters value their lives and *will* flee. Of course, this might upset my players and they won't want to play in my 7-10 MYRE where they encounter a Dragon and it's horde, to replace the weapons lost in the 4-7 MYRE. (Kidding about that last part. They might not get all that much, since it's still limited to the value of the normal LFR mods.)

Of course, the big difference here is that you only get 20% of the items value in residuum if you use Disenchant. (unless the Artificer has some special rule I am unaware of) You get the same amount in gold if you sell an item.
Sorry WOTC, you lost me with Essentials. So where I used to buy every book that came out, now I will be very choosy about what I buy. Can we just get back to real 4e? Check out the 4e Conversion Wiki. 1. Wizards fight dirty. They hit their enemies in the NADs. -- Dragon9 2. A barbarian hits people with his axe. A warlord hits people with his barbarian. 3. Boo-freakin'-hoo, ya light-slingin' finger-wigglers. -- MrCelcius in response to the Cleric's Healer's Lore nerf

I draw my +1 Lightning Weapon (that I haven't used since level 3, when I got my Vanguard Weapon, but it is taking up a slot)... If you are talking found magic item slots, it'll still take up a slot even when you get rid of it....
