Slippery Slope Warning!

"What happens if my item just got outclassed?"

This is the opposite of nerfing, when power creep effectively puts an item I just earned out to pasture.

For example, lets say I hit level 6 and purchased a +2 magic bow. A game or two later, someone shows me a "Distance bow" - same cost, better property.

Sure, in this case there happens to be a ritual that can solve my problem, but if we started talking about items that were more generally better and not in the level 1,6,11 etc range, what then?

Basically, as said by many others, magic items are not core to your character, they are just really neat toys. They are very temporary, sometimes very good, sometimes not good enough.

Enjoy your item while it lasts, for better or worse.

You can use Enchant Item to add a property onto your generic magic bow, paying the difference, 0.

Personally, I think Distance is flatly worse for your bow, but there are some examples of properties that are actual minor improvements at the same +.

irrelivant situation in this topic, the item didnt change in this example instead, your characters opinions of the item changed, after the fact that he knew when he chose to take up the slot with that said item it was as it was, but now if he chose that item and it got changed to a different item (even if it got better) he should have some option that lets him undo his choice of that option. If the errata is goof or bad to the player is irrelivant what my focus on is If the item is changed fundementaly in any way AFTER it was chosen as a slot or purchased. the way i see it is everyone has different opinions on what errata is good, bad, or even. but if there is a fundemental change then there is always gonna be someone who feels the change was wrong and for this reason we should look into an errata clause for the LFR system that allows players to undo thier choices of errata items (or some other form of compensation). because the people that are not complaining when one errata happens will be the one complainaing when a future errata occurs, so it makes sence to make some system that will be in effect for when any errata happens now and in the future.

Actually, it's a very small vocal minority that complains when errata nerfs an item. Most people just move on. I know I for one would not complain if an item was nerfed. I would just shrug and move on from it. I've had rules items nerfed on me before and I'm sure it will happen again.

After all... there are a lot more people that have Veteran's Armor than the 5 or 6 people causing the biggest commotion on the forums or the Yahoo group.

Sorry WOTC, you lost me with Essentials.  So where I used to buy every book that came out, now I will be very choosy about what I buy.  Can we just get back to real 4e?

Check out the 4e Conversion Wiki.

As is usual (and frustrating), this announcement doesn't show up in the CCG or any official document.

Dude. It has been about 48 hours since this was announced. The WotC employees who were at the con didn't even leave Indy until today. Give people a break and a chance to recover from their five-day weekend business trip before getting out the hot coals and pokers again.

Somewhere in my notes I thought I wrote down that this change becomes official when it hits the RPGA news page. The note at/from the meeting is really more of a heads up.

I took those notes to help spread the word to as many people as possible in advance (since we can't all be at the show).

Just as was done with the conversion of Surge Armor to Veteran's Armor, there *will be* a news update. I suspect this will come from the desk of Chris Tulach directly - and he's still traveling. He's going to be running RPGA events at New York Comic Con this week/end.

Then he'll get back to WotC Mon/Tues and have ~2 weeks of work to catch up on.

Sometime shortly after that is when I'd expect the official news to go live.

So, as others have mentioned - be patient.

Sure, except that's not the problem. The point isn't that I want it up on the RPGA website quicker. I don't want it up on the RPGA website at all. They put out an updated CCG days before the convention, and that's the place where official rules proclamations should go, not some temporary announcement page.

If I'm your average LFR player, and the question is "My item was errataed; what can I do?" or "My PC is diseased; how can I get a ritual done?", the answer shouldn't be "Well, check the RPGA website or the message boards. RPGA staff often make official proclamations there that never end up in official campaign docs."

A year from now, if someone asks a player why they swapped out veteran's armor for something else, they should be able to go back to some official campaign doc and point to the ruling, not have to dig through website archives to try to find a random announcement.

Ever notice that with certain posters, the vast majority of their posts are complaints? I really wonder why people like that continue to play the game.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

It was a reasonable comment hidden in the unreasonable. Back in LG, random posts by Admins were never considered binding rules sources, and moreover, if a player contended as much during a game, it would cause a great deal of issues.

It *should* have been in the CCG. Nonetheless, it will hopefully be in the next CCG.

I do agree that giving them a bit of time to get the ruling up is reasonable, but I also agree with the contention that why is there CCGs being put up PRIOR to these important meetings where the problems are resolved instead of after them?

If all the posts were 'this game is so totally fricking awesome' I would be surprised and wary, as there are ALWAYS problems with any living campaign.

- Metz notes his whinging about 'Ship tiles' that was so vehement for several months has eventuated in actual Ship tiles... (I'm taking credit, due to whinging :P)
