I plan on playing a Orc fighter and unless I see something different in the LFCS I am expecting to have problems with the locals when I come into town. I will have my weapon peace knotted and my hands in plain sight. Things like the inn suddenly being full or the general store closing wont surprise me. Local kids might throw dirt clods, rocks, horse apples at me. However from the way the beginning mods will be written the players will be affecting a small area farming communities or small villages I hope to have a chance to prove that I can rise above my race and become a hero.

This is how I play when I play my Kobold. I EXPECT people to hate me- it's part of the fun. I get to grovel, simper, beg to be allowed to live... much different than every other character I've played. It's refreshingly different...

The comic Goblins - Life Through Their Eyes really changed my perceptions of what it is to be a "monster" in D&D. More than once I've drawn a quote from Goblins when I'm playing Ixen, or paraphrased a story, event, character... it's really a fantastic comic. I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks that "monster's can't be PCs!". It's here: http://www.goblinscomic.com/

LMAO, you guys still going at it in this thread? I thought this would've died down over night. I got a good laugh to see this desultory argument continued.

The promotional creation cards are here and a part of the new campaign. This thread can go on for three hundred more indignant posts and it shall not change the fact that convention goers earned the cards and are probably gonna use them. And, I doubt that any more acrimonious declamations shall prevent the RPGA from presenting like cards at future shows. Fortunately, they get to decide what to offer at their events. I support then one hundred percent.

Happy gaming, lol. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have an Orc fighter/paladin to make for LFR. :evillaugh

Gnome Wanderer Creation Card

"Home is wherever you will find me." - Commonly heard gnomish quip

Traveling throughout the Realms, gnomes fit in wherever they can be found. Most of the time, the other races pay them little heed. Gnome adventurers let their curiosity for the unknown get the better of them, and often can be found in the company of elf or dwarf adventurers.

Benefit: This card allows you to play an gnome. The gnome racial traits can be found in the Monster Manual.

Orc Adventurer Creation Card

"I always thought the wonders of our former foes were fanciful tales. There is so much more beyond the mountains than I ever thought possible." - Taug, orc warlord

Brazen and bold, a few orcs courageous leave the Kingdom of Many-Arrows to make their fortune in the wide expanse beyond the Spine of the World The sight of an orc adventurer within a large city outside of the North is becoming more common nowadays, although they are still given a wide berth.

Benefit: This card allows you to play an orc. The orc racial traits can be found in the Monster Manual.

Shadar-Kai Sojourner Creation Card

"Freedom from my sinister brothers and sisters still does not free me from the binds of the Shadowfell." - Inareth, shadar-kai warlock

Hailing from the ramparts of might or escaped from there Netherese masters, some shadar-kai venture to other places. Tales of sinister plots of the shadar-kai known to the well-informed, and those folk treat the shadow people with caution.

Benefit: This card allows you to play a shadar-kai. The shadar-kai racial traits can be found in the Monster Manual.

The card text implies the Monster Manual is needed to create a character of any of these races, and that all of the pertinent racial information is there.
It is implied that there is no general shoot on sight attitude towards any of them. The existance of the cards clearly indicates that these races are officially considered playable in RPGA campaigns in general, though the descriptive text seems specific to the Forgotten REalms setting.

Those are both legal options.  Changeling was in Eberron Player's Guide, and Minotaur was in Dragon Magazine.  Both are legal sources. As far as I remember the races that are unlocked with cards are Orc, Bladeling, and Kenku. Gnome and Shadar Kai were, but then were printed in sources anyone can use, so you don't need the cards for them anymore.
