i have an idea guys,i know i have probably played the least out of everyone here. Just because we cant persuade them not to close it, because it is too late. We might be able to persuade them to bring it back. You guys we are the fans, the people who play it. They may stop production of it but it is truly up to us if it dies or not. I am sure there is a enough cards out there to continue it for a good while. Or at least untill we can persuade them to bring it back...but how you ask. There are a couple ways to do this but i am not promising anything nor trying to get your hopes up. It will not be easy either.

But it cant be me and just a couple others on this forum. So who is up for the challenge? ...Well either way i am going to try with or with out your help.
But a little help would by nice :D

It is definitely sad that the game went belly up, but you have to admit it was designed for a very niche audience. I hope it will go the same way as Dragon Dice. What is that you might ask? It is a great game that was created by TSR and tehn bought and killed by Wizards. It also had a very niche audience, and a group of fans of that game started the company SFR, bought the rights from Wizards, and they are currently producing it (a great game I might add).

If you want to see this game kept alive online by fans, please pm me. I am thinking about creating a forum for it, and even thinking about making "Hecatomb Online" with some neat software I found. I just have too many projects going on now to devote too much time to it if I am not going to get any results.

For those who still want to play in person, now is the best time to get the cards at great prices.

Well already Wizards is doing more for their Dreamblade line than they were for Hecatomb. They plan on running demos at Wiz World Philly. They had the opportunity to do so last year for Hecatomb, since there was an interest in it even in June of last year, and they didn't bother because they were too busy pushing SWM and Duel Masters than showing off this new innovative game they had. Even if you use the excuse of it being a mature game and not the best venue for demos of it, you still basically shot yourself in the foot by passing up on all that foot traffic. WizOs... pass this on to the higher ups if nothing else from this thread. Make sure you push the living hell out of this new game at every opportunity, send demo packs to game stores, and get the shops and dealers themselves excited about wanting to sell Dreamblade. If you don't tell them, we're not gonna do it for you anymore. People like me have gotten the smelly and brown end of the stick for too long and it means we're not gonna be your advertising anymore.

With all due respect Sinister, our local gaming store has been sold out of Hecatomb, all sets, on at least 2 occassions. And, also with all due respect, you failed to answer my question.

Why should anyone, haven seen WotC screw all of its loyal Hecatomb players, invest so much as a single dollar into Dreamblade, knowing that in one year WotC may very well screw its loyal fans once again?

I feel really bad for Ryan right now.. considering how closely Dreamblade mirrors Hecatomb in theme and even rules I'd guess WotC got sick of 'Ryan's Game' stole his ideas, put a new label on it, created some junky minis and claimed it for their own.

As a side note I have yet to see a single box of AD&D Minis leave our local gaming store or Chapters location.. in fact I dont recal ever seeing so much as 1 WotC mini sell anywhere..

Icy,

I realize you are upset, but to say WotC did not care about Hecatomb is an unfair statement. It is not cheap to create and launch a game. My mind boggles trying to figure out exactly how many digits it costs to do that. The main point still comes down to, a company cannot all out support something with only a small following. The game was not cancelled to be cruel or mean. They gave it a shot. Every business regardless of what industry it is in, has to make money to stay afloat. While in an Utopian society, WotC could push out every game that every came across someone's thoughtwaves for anyone to enjoy, the reality is without people buying in mass quantities a product, it just isn't going to happen. And from reading this thread alone, you can see some stores had niches of players and sold out like a wild fire. Others, like Sinister's, had none at all. Now imagine that all over the country. Now imagine it all over the world. I do know that the folks at WotC cared about the game. If they didn't, you would never have known it had even been thought of

We are all here because we love games. We love to play them. The designers, producers, general staff and even us little moderators are all fans of the games we play and support. Why would we want to hurt our own hobbies?

Now that the dust almost settled, why not trying to push thinking a little forward and try to figure out what to do next ?

The only reasonable way Hecatomb can possibly continue to live, or not die that is, is having its IP bought by another company.

To me a european card maker would be the most sensible candidate to do so. Here in Europe the game was very well received and a very strong cummunity was built quickly. Is it due to the fact that europeans like dark stuff better ? I don't know. What I do know however, is that licensing this now defunct ccg would be quite cheap, and continue its development would be not that hard since all the basics are already set in stone.

We could also petition WOTC to release what they originally planned : one more 72 cards epansion and one more 144 stand alone. At least, they would do what they were supposed to do...

Upon reading Icy's post I agree wholehearthdly with him. And I am now madder than before.
WHY THE **** would we let a GREAT GAME with GREAT MECHANICS and GREAT ART which has developed a GREAT FOLLOWING in Europe "die in peace"?

"I immediately quit Magic, sold all my stuff (1800 + rares) and went berserk for it."
gilles sold 1800 + rares for this game. And you want him to let it die in peace.
We may be insane but you, sir, are blantatly stupid.

I dont care if people boycott wizards or not. If you want to, go ahead. And it is obvious that Wizos are going to tell you not to. If any Wizo said "do that, you are on your own right" I am pretty sure that he wouldnt be an Wizo anymore.

But again, RyanM can you post or do an article with what you already had out for this upcoming expansions?
