This. This. A thousand times this.

While WotC is wonderful with MTG, hands down, no agrument... for code I don't trust them with a burnt out match. Speaking of burnt out matches, I wonder how many people lost matches this past week due to their last fix? (The one that caused "burn to exile" spells to just "burn") We'll see what the "fix for the fix" brings come Wednesday.

BUT...

I don't know how much code input WotC has in coding the new client. Since an actual software developer is doing the work, including any "auction house" (or whatever), I might be less leery.

Actually my understanding from WOTC is they just got the "shell" of the client from the software Dev, they are doing ALL the current work... which explains the pace :P

Also, not sure when the last time you saw what storage costs are like, they are basically nonexistent. a TB of space for 60 bucks likely holds 10k accounts worth of cards or better. The database is literally

Account ID:####,CardID ####, Quantity####

Takes a LOT of that to make a meaningful impact on storage costs.

The results of the card shredder would simply decrement the Quantity value. It doesn't save Wizards any money if this changes from 99,999 to 4. Not arguing with Zigler's post, just quoting a good description of the data structures involved.

Yeah that was my point rly. Also because of how data structures work going from 9999999 to 4 does NOTHING to your storage requirements, at least as I semi understand data structures.

The gain is if you get rid of all copies of a particular card.  If you get rid of all copies of 100 different cards, and then got some amount of another card, then that would give them a little bit of increased space.

I doubt people will get rid of all of a card though.  Maybe just jump down to 4 ofs, or 8 ofs if they want to keep some for trade.

Though this is with guessing that how they save how many of x cards you has is in a row that has the card id, set id, then maybe foil and non-foil count.

If every card in the system has its own row then going from 9999999 to 4 would make a difference.  Becase you are then removing 99999999 rows and replacing them with 4 rows.

From what someone has told me that there is a way to tell when a card was opened and those have higher values then it would lean toward each card has its own row.  I don't know this as I was told it and have never looked up if I can tell some kind of number on a card for when it was opened.

So really, it comes down to how are they saving the card data for cards that you own.  Is it just a count, or does each individual card have its own row and history so they can trace it?  If you can answer this for me then could figure out how they would save space.  Again, this is probably very limited space either way.

As far as changes I would like to see.  I would just like to see a better search interface.  Really it would help with both human and bot trades.  Right now the text only post and text only search is horrible.  I think it drives people to bots only simply because they have had time to figure out the best patterns of what people look for, and they also force you to search their patterns.  Though at the same time you can miss out on what you are really looking for either way.

They can keep the text description, but at the very least add a way for them to link to the add the actual digital items they are trading so I can have some filter on that.  Also if they are looking to sell or buy.

Just quantities. It was changed a couple years ago now.

Unfortunately, VCLs do not currently have the tools necessary to take moderation actions directly. VCLs submit their actions to ORCs, who then actually perform the action. This processing can take between a few minutes and several hours, depending on how busy/attentive the ORCs are.

If you see something that needs VCL attention, please use this thread (MTGO) or this thread (paper) to make a request and a VCL will look at it as soon as possible.  CoC violations should be reported to Customer Service using the "report post" button. Please do not disrupt the thread by making requests of either kind in-thread.
