Good morning,

i was playing Magic almost 12 years ago and i now discovered the Online version of this great game.
I noticed that in 12years a lot has changed but at the same time a lot is always the same good stuff.

i would like to try to join the online community because due to my job, travel and so on the card game would be impossible to follow.

i would like to understand few things:
- is there any good/different client in order to see the card like in the XboxGame (Planetshift)? i tried the PC demo and a lot of the excitement gone when i saw the poor graphic, the chaotic environment/interface and the fact that cards are not available in different language
- i would like to start buying some introduction deck (that i know are available in the paper card game for around 10-30$). Are these decks available also online?

I have other question regarding the tournaments but i will have to read the forum regarding this matter

Thank you for your attention

Welcome!

There are two clients currently available to play Magic Online. There is the normal client and there is a beta version for the next client. You can install both side-by-side and they will both connect to the same client.

A couple things to remember. First: Magic Online is a full digital representation of paper Magic, not an arcade-style game like Duels of the Planeswalkers (what you played on Xbox). That means that the GUI and visuals are necessarily less elaborate than DotP (though no one will call Magic Online a marvel of UI design by any stretch). Second, the beta client is still a beta, so you may encounter bugs at an above-normal rate. In particular, it is currently recommended you avoid trading with the new client. However, the beta client is still in active development and feedback is desired (there are threads stickied in Magic Online General as well as webforms available for this purpose).

All current Introduction and Duel Decks are available in the online store at MSRP. However, many or all can be assembled cheaper by buying the cards on the secondary market. There are also a few Magic Online-only products you may want to consider. One is the Deck Builder's Essentials, which provides a bunch of cards for five proto-decks for $4.99. Another are the two Magic Online Deck Series decks, which are designed to jump-start your Legacy play and cost $29.99 each. Also, your new account will come pre-stocked with a few hundred Magic cards, as well as some "Planeswalker" cards (gold-bordered cards that are untradable and unusable outside of the Planeswalker format).

If you see something that needs VCL attention, please use this thread (MTGO) or this thread (paper) to make a request and a VCL will look at it as soon as possible.  CoC violations should be reported to Customer Service using the "report post" button. The demo is the same as the live version. There is a beta version which is available to anyone. The graphics there are "better" but doun't expect much. The game you are refering to is Duels of the Planeswalkers - if you primary concers are graphics then I would advise you stick to this.

Every set comes with 5 theme decks you can buy at the shop but I would advice againts that since the majority of decks can be bought for less than 3 tickets while the deck costs 12$ (but you get a booster also which is worth 4$).

Thank you very much for your reply.
i was reading and i discovered as well that it looks better to build the deck directly than buy the introduction deck.

The concern regarding the Client was mainly becuase it's easier for me to understand the card in Duels of the Planeswalkers and it's a little bit more pleasant to use but of course i prefer the Online Version due to the fact that you can create your deck and you have all the cards available.

i was now reading about the different type of torunament and formats....very interesting.

i need to find the easy and smooth way to re-enter the game without going crazy....i just realized the enormous number of cards that is available.

First you have to decide how you want to play the game. If you are interested in playing tournaments for prizes then you need to figure out what you want to play. Limited tournaments just cost you money (and boosters) while for contructed tournaments you need tickets and a deck prebuild. There are many formats. For newer players Pauper and block contructed would be "easiest" to play.

You can also play casual games for which you only need a deck to play (these can cost literally only pennies).

There are some "wild" formats as Momir basic or Cube drafts (which are currently unavailable).

Edit: There is also the multiplayer variant. You can play Commander and/or planechase if you choose so.

Feel free to ask questions here as you read. There are a lot of different terms used in Magic that can be a challenge to learn and remember.
