I think Wizards really needs to make phantom universal boosters that will have a steady currency of around 4, and make the entry fee, 8 tickets or 2 phantom boosters, and then pay-out in these phantom boosters.
I disagree strongly. There are two main forms of currency in the MTGO economy:
- Tickets
- Packs in the current Limited environment
Packs from old Limited environments do circulate, but in much reduced numbers and generally lower prices.
Every additional kind of "currency" that you add to the economy makes for extra transaction costs and extra confusion and overhead for players who are trying to make trades and enter events. Having "phantom packs" would have most of the same drawbacks as Cube Tix.
The main difference between universal phantom packs and cube tickets would be that you'd be able to trade the phantom packs, and they'd be sold in the store. The only purpose of these packs would be to play in these events....and these events wouldn't go anywhere, presumably for as long as MTGO is around. People would be certain they'd retain their value of around 4 tickets each, and they'd trade accordingly. I don't understand the problem?
The two major problems with cube tickets, to me anyways, is that they are untradable, thus making them only valuable in multiples of 10 and if you want to actually play in another event, and they are completely useles 90% of the time since cube events are only available so often. These phantom packs would suffer from neither problem.

Btw: I never wrote what at least two people have quoted me for in this thread. Not that I care overly much though.

I'm amazed how many people have come out in support of 4 booster sealed. I didn't think it was that popular.
Turns out....I like to play it too. Sad to see it go. It was a good option I woud frequently suggest to new players.

I'll post in support of 4B sealed too. I'm much like PeteJahn with twice as many boosters won through sealed as draft. I do admit I play 4B sealed mainly for the EV, but I really enjoy it too. Deck construction is much simpler and I find I am able to do more crazy things then in normal sealed. I 3-0'ed a DDII one with a 5 colour deck.
One of the best things about 4B sealed for me was in a 2 set environment like Innistrad it took in an equal amount of each booster. Dark Ascension is very devalued right now, but it would not be as much if DDII 4B sealed was still offered, or at least it would give you a way to use up your extra Dark Ascesnsion packs.
The other side of the coin is when there is a very valueable card in the 2nd set like Jace the Mind Sculpter. When 4B sealed was first released I played a lot of ZZWW because it gave a better chance of opening Jace then a draft.
I love MTGO and this won't make me play less, but it will make me play much less sealed. I will never play a phantom one and DE's are hard to fit in my schedule.
Hoepfully the phantom ones just don't fire at all.

I wasn't a regular 4 pack sealed player but I did dabble in it and will indeed be sad to see that's no longer an option.
On phantom packs: I actually think this is a great concept, an area where you can employ the unique aspects of the digital realm to deliver a unique Magic experience. That's where I'm happier with the Cube ticket system than many people on these forums, because that is the prize I WANT: to be able to draft more Cube on the cheap.
So I applaud the move to experiment with phantom packs in Standard legal sets. However, 8 tickets just feels like too much for that. The reason to do phantom is that you care more about the experience of playing Magic that way than you care about the prizes. Reducing both the cost and the prizes would get me more interested. My dream has always been to pay a monthly subscription fee and to play sealed/draft whenever I wanted with no prize payout necessary at all.

So true, I have plenty of worthless DKA boosters on my account which I can only use up if I buy twice as many ISD boosters to support them. I would very much welcome 1-2 weeks of ISD-DKA 4-booster sealed to get rid off those.

- 4 booster sealed should never have existed as a format, and what wotc writes about it being unbalanced/awkward is totally correct - we know about the horror degenerate milling strategies involved with this.
Too many people are losing sight of this point. If you played 4-booster sealed for the EV, that wasn't the point of them and why you're not happy with the replacement. WotC wants a way for players to try limited cheaply. In fact, having this vehicle be high EV is counter-productive. Different events have different targets and if you're looking for +EV from this event, it isn't you. If you actually enjoyed 4-booster sealed beyond the EV, then you have a legitimate gripe.
I'm also tempted to ban the phrases "cash grab" and "ripoff" because (a) people don't know what they're talking about and (b) I'm tired of seeing them. (I won't, but get over yourselves.)

I'm registering just to put in my disapproval of removing 4-booster sealed.
I bought MTGO 3~ weeks ago SIMPLY for 4-pack sealed, and I don't know if I'll be playing after this. I guess I could cash out and make a constructed deck, but I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much because I don't have the money to sink into a competitive one.
It was a really fun event, I don't know if you guys who bash on it have even tried it.
Btw, it's a huge cash grab to make this even worse EV, some of us liked playing sealed and making casual decks from it

One doesnt need to have played 4Bsealed to express a gripe with 4Bsealed. Suggesting I play for EV is an insult, however small an insult it is. The thing is that noone plays mtgo for EV, just that some people think they do - and you should know this Bubba !
