I'm a new player. I don't quite understand the trade system yet.

So let's suppose I want to trade for a bunch of specific commons to create a deck.

I buy an event ticket, and trade it to a trade bot for 4 commons I need that cost a penny each. I will still have 96 cents worth of credit with that bot, but what if that bot doesn't have any other cards that I need? What happens to that unused credit?

Are there some marquee bots that carry lots more inventory than other bots, so that I can get everything from one place?

I don't want to buy 20 bucks worth of event tickets and end up leaving 15 dollars of credit on file with a 10 different bots.

How does this all work?

If you buy the 4 commons for a penny each, then the 96 cents will indeed just be sitting there on that bot.  The idea that it'll save it for you, but I wouldn't trust that 100% (it's infrequent that credit is "lost", but it can happen).  The rule of thumb I, and meny others, go by is "don't leave enough credit on a bot that you'd be upset at losing it".

Yes, there are bots that have better stock, allowing you to buy everything in one fell swoop.

You may be looking for bots advertizing as selling commons, such as "selling 100 commons for 1 tix" or something.  The problem with those is when you want some commons that are worth, say, 0.02 or 0.05....they just won't ever have them (or they will be quickly bot whenever they are in stock).  Instead you can just randomly trade around to find bots with large inventories.  You can also google for MTGO bots, large (usually well stocked) dealers generally also have a website.

If you are randomly trading (or not, actually), it can be helpful to use the wishlist feature to speed up your process.  Here is an explaination of it: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

good luck!

We cannot name any bots since that is considered advertisment. If you wish I can PM a link to some.

What I've found to be a pretty good strategy as a new player to the game is to work with two bots, one that deals in bulk commons and uncommons and another that has a larger inventory but who you don't want to get your commons from unless they're harder to get/not in stock at bulk stores. I've been able to construct/modify a few of the rtr theme decks that way with just my starting tickets (plus trading in the booster). Just compare some of the prices for the bots kristijanH suggests and settle on the right two. That way you don't have credit spread out everywhere and they should be able to get you a majority of what you want.
