Hi All,

Been playing online for about a week now and think I have got my head around the interface and buying/selling cards with bots.

I have also built around 5 decks with the most expensive one costing no more than 2 tix. I have won a fair few games and would say my win percentage is just above 50% in standard at present.

I enjoy playing my decks but was wondering where is the best place to get critique and if anyone has any advice on how to mould a better deck which doesn’t involve shelling out lots of $?

I appreciate that people that spend a lot of money on certain cards are going to be more competitive than I but I also realise that a sound deck can on occasion give them a run for their money and sometimes win with a few good card draws.

N.B. I seem to have a hard time against token decks and black aggro decks which have a substantial board presence within a few turns.

You could always try posting decklists here.  There are several people around that'll generally add in helpful suggestions.

Other places to try (on these forums) are here: community.wizards.com/go/forum/view/7584...

I'm sure there are places outside of the WotC forums as well...but I don't know of any of them.

Play in the TP room.
Learn the meta of the format you are interested in (which decks and strategies are winning and which cards are being used).
Watch videos of the format you are interested in to learn about strategies and decks.
Keep up with the winning decklists on mtgonline.com
Exploit the weaknesses in these decks.

Keep in mind that being competitive requires you to have the best cards.  If there is no other card with X power level / effect / efficiency, then you must have that card or you are playing with a subpar deck.  That's not to say that there aren't rogue budget decks that can win, but think about this: even in Classic with a cardpool of over 10,000 cards you still need Wasteland ($30) to be competitive.  There are budget alternatives, but there's nothing else that does what it does as well out of 10,000 cards.  There are only 1,400 cards in Standard, so you'll have even fewer budget options.
