Ok so i lost my old computer around the time of shadowmoor. I then due to circumstances did not get a new one till m10. But seriously...why is eventide so blasted expensive? I've picked up a lot of cards from the time period i missed but every time i go to look at eventide the rares are so pricy. It doesnt really make sense. Im used to .10 rares not 3.00. Especially considering the majority of cards from the set were never really connstructed powerhouses. Im looking at you miss 3.00 bloomtender. But all the pricees seem out of whack. Anyone care to shine a lgiht on this?
I like fun, but competitive decks. So I might not play what is optimal but they have normally been tested to have a 2/3 winrate.

Dark days of 2.5, in fact most of eventides primary drafting would have been during the month(3 really) of downtime from 2.5 to 3.0. On top of that it was the FOURTH set in a block and saw the least drafting of anything in a long time. Think WWK but with only regular rares rather than modern rare(thanks mythics).
So everytime you think mythics blah blah just remember 5 ticket deathbringer lieges :p
Seriously though its a casual set that is well loved. Also bloom tender saw play.

No, the downtime was around March-April 2008, while Eventide was released in July that year.
But it's true that v3 sucked at that time, and that's probably the number one reason why so little Eventide got opened.

No, I think that might be number 3 or 4, but not number 1. IIRC, eventide was somewhat expensive even during the time it was actually drafted. V3 sucking hurt constructed more than limited, so there should have actually been a bit more supply and less demand than usual.
Personally, I think the horrid 2x 2set block format and tiny window of drafting was to blame. Casual appeal for enemy color hybrids also helps. And V3 not being very good at that time just compounds the problem...

etide was expesnive, however the set was still underdrafted compared to normal(V.3 was a nightmare :/), AND since then demand has only grown for cards.

see thats the sad part...bloom tender isnnt worth 3 tickets a piece. Its just not that good. And Im pretty agreeable with most prices on mtgo. Like jace is 80ish thats cool he is good, really good. Bloomtender should be more like 1.75 maybe 2.25

I remember the Eventide release. Shadowmoor wasn't a smooth way to start v3.0, but Eventide was a literal disaster. The server was off and on for the duration of the release, similar to the v2.5 days. They extended EEE drafts by a week once they got things up and running, but the damage had already been done. EEE drafts were also remarkably horrible due to it being a small set with a very linear strategy. Whoever got into the 2-color combination that no one else was in won. I remember going WB once and getting 7 Edge of Divinity to go with multiples of all the common WB hybrid guys, and 4 Unmake to top it off.
Then, SSE drafts started, which created a shortage not too dissimilar to ZZW. The other major factor is that SSE was the first block on V3.0. MTGO was slowly gaining back some previous customers and getting new people online, but I don't think the big bump came until M10.

My computer that worked with V2.5 couldn't run V3 at the time so I quite MTGo until I got a new PC around Alara release. So I did no SSE drafting online and I assume many others were in the same boat. I did some in paper and really enjoyed the format. I look forward to the upcoming SSE Nix Tix week in 4 weeks. I know I plan on drafting as much as I can (I have 38-S and 16-E).
