You sound surprised? Haven't you seen the new log-on screen: "Magic Online; the Investment Game. Join your stupid, liberal high school buddies online, and enjoy speculating on which cards will be worth the most next week. Stockpile rare playables and watch the prices skyrocket. Help ruin the experience for as many people as possible, and see how many tickets you can gather on your way to the top."?
They see me trollin', they hatin'. Only 31.0% of the playerbase actually prefers Standard to the other formats, yet it is the format that gets the most attention. PATHETIC. If you had millions of loyal customers who adore and admire you, and you could raise your middle finger at them, wouldn't you? **** YOU TOO, WIZARDS. You are Red/Blue! Take The Magic Dual Colour Test - Beta today!Created with Rum and Monkey's Personality Test Generator. You are both rational and emotional. You value creation and discovery, and feel strongly about what you create. At best, you're innovative and intuitive. At worst, you're scattered and unpredictable.

Lets just assume he isn't one of those people who find speculating on card prices to be almost as fun as magic itself. On that note, the Sky Swallower + Brand combo will be the next big thing in Legacy, so be sure to buy your Brand 's now before they explode.
our new, happy life

You sound surprised that Magic is expensive. I hope that wasn't a recent revelation.
Pauper is always a great choice if you don't want to (or can't afford to) spend a lot.
Guess what? Chicken butt.

Are you stalking me or something?
I am not surprised that Magic is expensive considering that I have been collecting it on/off since the Urza block. I am also not unwilling to spend money on it at all - quite the contrary (and I'm fairly sure that I've spent more on MTGO than most). What I'm trying to demonstrate is that there are a lot of people that have the playables needed to "have fun" in the eternal formats. That is nice for them, and I honestly envy them that position. I would absolutely love to play something like Legacy, but when we're talking about a starting investment of something like a 1000$ for ONE deck it's starting to be a bit absurd.
A question to all the hoarders:
How many of you would honestly be willing to go out and buy one of the Legacy DTBs straight up (talking one of the blue-based ones)?
My bet is that the vast majority would not be willing (or like in my case able) to do this. You sit on your high horse and enjoy throwing out worthless comments like "if you don't like it then you don't have to play", "it's cheaper than buying a paper deck" or the very worst: "you can just buy the deck a little at a time". Sure, that's great considering the entire concept of MTGO is that you sit down and play.
So am I a whiner? Sure, if that admission makes you happy then yes, I'm one. Still, instead of ridiculing people that are actually just interested in starting playing you might want to actually consider what they're saying.

ehhh just my two cents, the whole buy a deck a little at a time isnt bad as long as you can legitimately buy a decent portion each purchase. Like today i built a budget hermit druid deck. Then realized that i had over half of the cards needed for dredge in that deck already...now i just have to buy the other cards which i can do weekly till i complete the deck. It may take a month at most. Now dredge is fairly cheap in legacy compared to most the other decks, but still i highly doubt hoarders are the reason for force of will being 82 or LED being 62 tickets.
I like fun, but competitive decks. So I might not play what is optimal but they have normally been tested to have a 2/3 winrate.

There's not much of a reason to keep them in the store longer than the release events.
Using assumption #1: cracking packs is stupid, there is only one use for packs after the release events end, the nix tix queue.
You have 3 packs? Great, play in the nix tix queue. You don't have 3 packs? Either A.) play in the nix pax queue or B.) buy 3 packs on the secondary market (since they are prizes for legacy based events).
Keeping them in the store doesn't really change anything and just adds confusion for newer players.
If they were to keep other events around (ssq's, DEs, PEs, etc) then yes, it would be necessary to keep them in the store. But since they don't, removing them from the store is fine.

Well, that might work for Ichorid or one of the really cheap Legacy decks, but how about the decks I was actually talking about? How long do you think it would take to buy one of the blue-based DTB decks by going for it in small bites?
In case you or other posters don't know what we're actually talking about I'll gladly give an example:
www.deckcheck.net/deck.php?id=34046
The price of this deck with a sideboard is around 1100$ online. I'm not saying that I would like to play this deck, but that just illustrates the cost of entering Legacy at this point.
How anyone can possibly defend this is beyond me.
