WHAT IS BUILD YOUR OWN STANDARD? It was first used in the Magic 2007 Invitational:
This is an interesting twist on Build Your Own Block that will not only pit the great Standard decks from the past decade against each other, but also allow for fantasy Standard formats. Players can choose any base set from Fifth Edition forward and pair it with any two block formats to build a deck.
You want your Standard to be Tenth-Ravnica-Invasion? Done. Mirrodin-Urza-Eighth? No problem. One can see where a creative deckbuilder could spend days trying to come up with the broken-est combination of blocks.
Any cards that appear on the Legacy banned list or a Block Constructed banned list will be banned in this format. If Ice Age is one of the blocks, then a player would not be able to play with ..."OpenTip(event, "Necropotence")" class="nodec">Necropotence but would be able to play ..."OpenTip(event, "Counterspell")" class="nodec">Counterspell and pair it with ..."OpenTip(event, "Counterbalance")" class="nodec">Counterbalancefrom Coldsnap. Sorry Homelands—there is no home for you in this format.
Mark said this format was born from the question: "What if we gave you access to everything but didn't allow you to use it all? Players will be able to choose almost any of the great Standard decks from throughout the years. They can also play any of the great block decks and shore them up with cards from a base set and another block."
Basically each player chooses two blocks and one core set as 'their' standard. It's as simple as that. The blocks don't need to be consecutive or you could use a current std deck or an old favorite.
As you can see they used a more extensive banned list above but we will be maintaining our own here.
If you're asking how you can get started there are several decklists from the invitational that might spark some ideas. You can also just think of an old favorite std or block deck and see if matching it up with different blocks or core sets would make it more powerful.
If you have any more question feel free to pm me or reply to this thread. BANNED (Subject to change)

What is a season and how does it work?
BYOS will be ran in a 16 week season. For each event you will gain season points for participation and performance. At the end of the 16 weeks the top players will be invited to participate in a championship event with increased prizes and fame!
How are season points calculated?
Each player will receive:
2 points for event participation
3 points per match win
1 point for top 4/8 appearance
How are pairings, standings, and tiebreakers calculated?
DCI-Reporter is used to create pairings and standings. The tiebreakers are all calculated automatically using the official DCI system.
For each bye or match win you are awarded 3 points.
The second column, OMW%, is your opponents match win percentage. This means the better your opponent's do in the following rounds the higher you will be in the final standings.
The third column, PGW%, is your game win percentage and considers your match results of 2-0, 2-1, 1-2, or 0-2.
The fourth column, OGW%, is based on all of your opponents game wins and losses.
If you have any more questions please feel free to pm me, ask at our event, or reply to this thread.
Players are expected to follow widely-accepted Community guidelines for conduct to maintain a fair and civil playing environment.: If you are caught in any unsportsmanlike conduct in or out of a game (i.e. being rude to the host, being rude to another player, cheating, failure to report your drop etc.), you will receive a warning and may be dropped from the tournament. Your name will be placed on a warning list for four(4) weeks. If, during that four weeks, you are caught in any unsportsmanlike conduct again and your name is on the warning list you will be suspended for the duration of the current season or the current season and the following season if we are past event 10. If you have been suspended before you will instead be banned. "Unsportsmanlike conduct" is at the discretion of the host; all decisions are final.
