What needs fixing:
1. Please remove any sort of placement advantage by names being alphabetical and do some sort of ordering like we had on 2.5 which worked very well.
2. Please do not allow text formatting
3. Especially do not allow hidden text in ads. Right now if you type mtgotraders in the search about 20 other bots show up that have my name hidden in their ad. Why is this allowed?

I know this is a crazy thought, but how about bringing back separate buy and sell boards, so that when you're trying to sell cards, you don't get 20 people offering to sell them to you and vice versa. Also, I second all of the OP's requests - they all make sense.

well i definitely agree with olstyn trying to sell cards can be a pain.
and heath had good points as well i just never use the marketplace to buy but i will admit the massive text spams i have seen are ridiculous. I guess im lucky i just buddied the two bot service i do use.
I like fun, but competitive decks. So I might not play what is optimal but they have normally been tested to have a 2/3 winrate.

I agree 100% with OPs suggestions.
If each client randomized the order of the list when they first open the classifieds that should put everyone on even ground.
And the many types of text formatting make it hard to read too. Just force everyone to use plain text, with the numbered mana symbols for prices so that things become less difficult to navigate.

So the complaints about it have been there since v3 launched, with countless threads giving easy suggestions wich should not take more than a few hours programming at most. And what have they got to show for it? no-th-ing.
Frankly i'm pessimistic about them doing anything about it until v4, aka browser-modo, comes.

I have displayed my dissapointment with the current trading system for a while now but I would like to add a few thoughts. Magic is a TRADING card game. As such the "trading" aspect is a vital and for many people important part of the overall experience. We all know the current system needs more then a few bug fixes to deliver on this role but for now a few things that would really be nice and shouldn't be very time consuming:
1. Allow us to "block" certain ads to show up in the classified in the first place. I can block users why not blocking ads? There are tons of annoying ads of bots that show wrong prices, advertise with cards they never have or other annoying fellas that use the classified system in an abusive way. Remove them from my sight if I want to!
2. What is with this "white" on "white" background that is used in the list?! Please guys, just consult any of the countless color scheme websites and use something that does not make my eyes bleed.
3. Do not randomize the classified as it makes everything harder to find but "scroll" the page in fixed intervalls so they display "A B C D E....Z" and then "B C D E......A" and so on. This way everyone will be on top or at bottom but you can still find someone based on alphabetic order.
4. Fix the bug that allows to hide text and misrepresent who you are and what you offer. If someone advertises foils or planeswalkers but does not have any, then this is wrong and should be punishable by allowing me to block their ads for good!
Ok. I think I vented enough. I feel better now. It always works.

I agree with everything you said. Number three is especially ironic to me. How is this for backing up your post.
I am kinda new to MTGO (march 09) and admittedly still learning some things. I was in the auction room and heard something about MTGOTraders stores being good. I happened to be looking for a card at the time, so I figured I'd give your store a try instead of just using marlon bot or humans.
Exactly like you said, when you type mtgotraders in, many pop up. Untill I asked and found out otherwise, I thought either they all belonged to you or where all using your bot software.
You are right about it being confusing and bad for new players. It is nothing short of false advertising.

1. The greatest problem with ads is too many bots advertising false prices. They offer nice buy and sell prices then when you enter and try to trade the actual prices are much worse. Yes we should be able to filter all these bots away so we don't have to deal with them anymore.
2. People who change their ads should appear at the top of the ads to reward them for keeping their prices updated.
3. People in buddy list should appear at the top like in V2.5.
These 3 things will allow us to have only the useful traders at the top of our list in the marketplace.
