Round 1 will begin approximately 30 minutes after registration starts.
Why: Competitive play on a budget!

Event Structure

• The format for this event is Pauper Classic. Cards from Duel Decks: Jace vs. Chandra will NOT be legal in this event.
  
• Tournament structure is Swiss rounds, number depending on turnout (9 - 16 players = 4 rounds), followed by a top 4 (if 20 or fewer players register) or top 8 (with 21+ players) single-elimination playoff.
  

Banned & Restricted Cards

• All rares and all uncommons are banned.
  
• Cranial Plating is banned.
  

Note that the former restriction on artifact lands has been lifted.

Uncommons and timeshifted cards that have also been printed online as commons can be used as proxies.

Prizes

The Top 4 (or 8) will select from a prize pool that includes:

• Assorted other prizes, including foil commons, playsets, and rares, may be available.

Known Bugs

Please be aware of these issues with the Magic Online software before you enter this tournament. This list is provided for your convenience and may not be comprehensive. It is each player's responsibility to become familiar with any behavior of the software, correct or incorrect, that may affect them.

• Magic Online III does not give you any indication when you have been disconnected. If it seems like your opponent is taking a long time to respond, please verify that your own connection is working properly. You can do this by chatting in /join Classic_PDC or any other channel, or by disconnecting from the server and trying to reconnect.
  

Tournament Rules

• Registration - To register for the tournament, /join Classic_PDC during the registration period indicated above, and type "REGISTER". This is necessary even though this tournament is by invitation.
  
• Late Entrants - Please arrive before the end of the registration period. Players who arrive within 20 minutes of the start time may be allowed to enter the tournament with a first-round loss. If there is a player with a bye in the first round, the late entrant may be paired with that player, if that player and the host both agree. Players who arrive more than 20 minutes late will not be allowed to register.
  
• No-shows - Any player who fails to join their match within 10 minutes following the announcement of pairings for the round will lose that match. A player who receives a match loss for this reason will be dropped from the tournament, unless they talk to the event host before the beginning of the next round and ask to be reinstated.
  
• Disappearances - The host reserves the right to drop from the tournament any players who are not present in the tournament channel at the end of a round.
  
• Crashes - If there is a server crash during the tournament, and the server hasn't come back up after 30 minutes, the tournament will be canceled. Watch this thread for updates on the situation if this happens.
  
• B&R - No card on the banned list may be used in a deck (except proxies as indicated above). Violation of this rule will result in a match loss for the first offense (after which the player may correct their deck to bring it into conformance for the next round), and a disqualification for the second offense.
  
• Decks - The deck and sideboard that you start the first round with must be used for the remainder of the tournament. Changing any maindeck or sideboard cards or switching decks after the first round is cheating, and will result in disqualification.
  
• Match Setup - All matches must be best 2 out of 3, timed for 30 minutes per player, and watchable. (Players are also encouraged to label their matches with the event name, in order to make them easy to find.)
  
• Communication - Please don't talk in other people's games, as a courtesy to those players. Likewise, please refrain from strategically relevant discussion of ongoing games in the event channel.
  
• Results - Match results will be posted for verification by the players. The host MUST be informed of any mistakes prior to the posting of the next round's pairings. After that time, it is impossible to go back and fix any mistaken results entry, whether it is the fault of the players or of the host.
  
• IDs - Intentional draws are not allowed. The chess clock renders them unnecessary.
  
• Deck Lists - The top 4 or 8 are required to post their decklists in this thread after the event.
  
• Accounts - Players are restricted to one account per person.
  
• Conduct - Players are expected to show good sportsmanship and behavior.

ConEd will be conducting a planned power outage on the area of my residence this upcoming Saturday. As such, I will forfeit my spot this season.

Last minute announcement:
Since this is the most important event of the season, we will play 5 rounds of Swiss no matter what the turnout is.

Also, to encourage people to play and stay until the end, everybody who makes 3-2 or better will get a prize! One random person with a lower final record will also get a prize.
