Is there an ETA on when we'll be able to watch finished PE's?
Also, I remember when we could watch other matches, while in the same PE. Is that going to be brought back also?

Replays for all PEs will not be available until after the event is over. File this under "ways Online can be better than paper." If we could prevent deck scouting in paper, we would.
Online, it can be prevented.
Thanks,

Thanks, Are you sure you thought this one through, Scott? This gives a sizeable advantage to the person who has the most friends playing in the tournament.

Watching replays was the bext way to kill time if you finished your match early. I never used it for deck scouting (although I really only played limited events, not sure if it really helps there), my match is usually done early and right now it is really boring.

Precisely what got me to post this last night. During a sealed event, I was usually one of the 1st to end each match. Which lead to alot of downtime. It would have be fun to watch other's rounds.
I can kinda see the point of not allowing it in constructed. Has there been any internal debate over allowing it in limited though?

In limited events, I can understand not having replays because there is a lot more to gain by scouting. By that I mean that in limited, there are a lot of different tricks someone could have and you don't necessarily know what they are whereas in constructed, once you figure out your opponent is running faeries, you know pretty much everything to watch out for.
When there were no replays in 2.5 in constructed tournaments, pretty much every round I would get a PM from someone who got paired against one of my previous opponents asking "hey what is this guy playing?"
And even if you make that against the CoC, then people can still ask friends and clanmates who won't report them. Not having replays during the event just punishes the people who don't know a lot of people playing in the event.
Also, not being able to see what the people not in top 8 were playing really skews your impression of the metagame. If 20 people play Deck A and 10 people play Deck B, but 2 deck A's make top 8 and 4 Deck B's do, anyone who watches the replays will get a false impression of the actual metagame and will play the wrong deck.

I think your first point may make sense (disagree with it, but its legitimate).
This point though doesn't. You will still be able to see finished PE's, just not currently running ones. So, you won't have false sense of metagame as you can just look at the same PE after its done.
In terms of Constructed vs Limited for replay value, i'd lean toward it being a lot more important in limited. Knowing what bombs the other person is playing is a very big deal where as the key cards in constructed are known a almost as soon as you see what color land drops first turn.

I think there's a very reasonable argument to be had regarding turning off mid-PE replays. My issue is that there are apparently significant changes that are happening to MODO PEs and a lot of the information seems to be either scattered accross the boards or not at all.
It would be really really helpful if Scott or Mike or whoever could make a blog post regarding the big changes that have or will be implemented. It's clear that at least on this and the ID issue that a lot of thought has gone into it, but there's a disconnect on what is happening over there and what we can see from over here. I mean, even if the ultimate decision hasn't been made yet, it would be nice now that events are up and running to see the discussion and maybe bring up other issues you guys are thinking about.

Agreed. I was contemplating putting up a website which would just track historics. Things said about various topics and when they were last said. One specific page with a timeline of what will happen. Finally, some sort of blog to track interesting news from these forums (as we have much more contact with wotc here than via their blog)

It would also be nice if they would let us know about these things. Between this and ID's, they have removed features that people liked without any warning because it is "better for the game." I know there are people who don't like replays and ID's but they are an extremely small but vocal minority. Most of us like being able to draw and watch replays during swiss.
If you are going to make the game "better" than paper, why not add things we will like instead of taking them away.
