Based upon collected feedback from the community on our proposed initial rules and additional internal discussion we would like to present the final Magic Online format rules for our version of Pauper, the popular casual format created and supported by the community.

As previously stated, initially there will only be one version of Pauper officially supported on Magic Online in order to avoid fragmentation of play groups. This version of Pauper will be a Classic sub format meaning that cards from any set released on Magic Online are allowed as long as they follow the format rules listed below.

Once it launches in December this format will be offered official support similar to what is currently being offered for 100-Card Singleton and Prismatic (4-player queues and occasional weekend PEs) as well as being able to be selected as a filter in Casual Play.

Pauper

Pauper is played with a minimum 60 card main deck and optional 15 card sideboard. All cards used must have been printed in any Magic Online set or product as a common rarity to be legal in this format. This means that if a card was ever released as a common rarity card in Magic Online, each common along with any non-common rarity version of that card is legal in Pauper.

For example, you could play with a Counterspell from Masters Edition II (an uncommon) because it was released on Magic Online previously as a common (in Seventh Edition).

You could not play with Hymn to Tourach, another uncommon from Masters Edition II, because it was never released as a common on Magic Online, even though it was printed as common in Fallen Empires.

Hey Mike

Do you know if standard queues will be offered on MTGO anytime soon?

Their last official statment is here:
http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.ph … t=Standard

If you can show them that Pauper has the playerbase to handle being divided then they're far more likely to try adding additional formats. But they're not likely to try to add another Pauper format until they know that the playerbase can support it.

Splitting it and killing one (or both) doesn't help anyone.
