Hi, this is my first time posting a deck for help, so let me know if anything is unclear. I got real sick of losing to decks consisting of 30 counterspells and 2 win conditions, so this deck is an attempt to be successful against counter-heavy U, UB, or UW decks, but at the same time be decent overall against many kinds of decks. I doubt I'm going to enter any tournaments with this deck, and I mostly play it in the casual room. As such, I would like to keep the cost of improvements to about $10, maybe $15 if it would make the deck really awesome.

Mostly, I'm just looking for help knowing if any cards should be taken out, because I definitely have a tendency to use bad cards just because I like them. I'll try to put my reasoning behind some of the choices I made in here too.

Thanks!

Format: Singleton

Land (24):
6x Forest
9x Swamp
Gilt-Leaf Palace
Golgari Rot Farm
Llanowar Wastes
Mosswort Bridge
Pendelhaven
Tainted Wood
Temple of the False God
Treetop Village
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Creatures I use for their abilities (12):
Nezumi Graverobber - Can't counter a creature being resurrected
Epochrasite - Help in the early game against quick aggro
Dark Confidant - A little risky, I've definitely taken some big life hits, but I still think it's worth it for the card advantage
Hypnotic Specter - Ruins control players, they pretty much have to counter this
Eternal Witness
Dosan the Falling Leaf - Was in the sideboard, moved it to maindeck because the counter decks are still destroying me
Hystrodon
Masked Admirers - they'll have to keep countering it
Graveborn Muse
Indrik Stomphowler - Always glad to draw him, Vedalken Shackles is the bane of my existence
Shriekmaw - Usually great, less so against control, might be borderline
Duplicant

Creatures I use as beaters (8):
Shambling Shell - Dredge is nice for late game when I just need a creature
Call of the Herd - (Basically a creature) 2 for 1, always good
Plague Sliver - 4 turn clock
Grave-Shell Scarab - Hard to kill for good
Sengir Nosferatu - Good defense against flying, hard to kill
Kodama of the North Tree - Seems great, but in practice not as stellar as I thought it might be
Twisted Abomination
Tombstalker - Wins me a game every now and then, but may be too slow

Removal (4 + removal in the "creatues" section):
Nevinyrral's Disk - Not sure whether I need this or not, occasionally very powerful
Putrefy
Damnation - I side this out against control, but it's so good against others
Profane Command - Very versatile

Discard (4):
Duress - Phenomenal against counter decks, gets rid of a counter whether it resolves or not
Thoughtseize
Hymn to Tourach
Liliana Vess - May be too slow, I don't think I've ever actually gotten to use her ultimate

Other (8):
Strands of Night - Sometimes worthless, othertimes amazing, a personal favorite that may need to go
Makeshift Mannequin - Anything I can get into play at instant speed is a keeper
Phyrexian Arena
Sylvan Library - I like this better than the Top
Garruk Wildspeaker
Phyrexian Totem - Acceleration and a total beater against mono-blue
Weatherseed Totem - Better against creatures, worse against control
Loxodon Warhammer - On one hand, makes all my creatures threats, on the other, can be worthless and expensive

Sideboard (15):
Gaea's Herald
Honden of Night's Reach - I figured this would hurt control decks that hoard cards, but I don't think it's that great
Leyline of Lifeforce
Aether Vial - Haven't actually tested this one out yet
Eyes of the Wisent
Quagnoth - Amazing against control, they essentially have to Wrath
Final Revels - I have it in here against very fast aggro, but I've maybe seen one or two total
Sudden Death
Krosan Grip - In here for Isochron Scepter or Vedalken Shackles
Reap and Sow - For powerful lands like Urza's Factory or Cabal Coffers
Beast Attack - Instant speed creatures seem good, but I don't know if this is worth a spot
Cloudthresher - Same reasoning as above
Spectral Force
Vigor - Any time I play a red deck I bring this badboy in
Phyrexian Furnace - I should probably put Scrabbling Claws in the board too, graveyard hate is important

Here are some cards I am considering:
Brooding Saurian - Shackles ruin me, Confiscate and Persuasion suck too
Troll Ascetic - Very good, but I don't have one yet and I draft XXX pretty often so I keep hoping to not have to buy one
Oona's Prowler - Quick damage or discard, but not sure if it would be effective enough
Harrow / Kodama's Reach / Golgari Signet - I think I either need some fixers or 1 more land
Overgrown Tomb - Will this help me out enough to justify the purchase?
Sensei's Divining Top - Better than the Library? Should I use both? Neither?
Birds of Paradise - I have this already, so I think I should probably be playing it instead of something

I also tried splashing white for Doran, the Siege Tower , Mortify , Castigate , and/or Teneb, the Harvester , but it seemed to stretch my manabase a little thin for not that much benefit.

The post is a little disorganized, so it is hard to provide constructive advice.

If you just want to beat counter decks, you could go quick sliver / root sliver or leyline of lifeforce / gaea's herald but they both commit you toward certain types of decks (slivers and creatures).

Random cards that might be good for the deck. Things that are good against counter decks while still being somewhat maindeck worthy....

sudden death
headhunter
okiba-gang shinobi
skeletal scrying
genesis
phyrexian arena
bitterblossom

Just some ideas. Also, you may want to speed up the deck somewhat. Use more aggressive 2/3 drops, and less of the big guys. Counter decks are relatively slow, and early drops can mess with them. Also, it's very hard for them to counter, say 2 2 drops on turn 4 compared with 1 4 drop. You only have a couple of 2 drops. You're whole deck just sits there for the first 2 turns.... playing right into the couter-heavy deck's game.

Also... if Shackles are the bane of you're existence.... go ahead and maindeck that Grip.

I play a lot of counter UB in singleton and my biggest headache matchups are Red Green decks. Aggro or Ramp they both give me the toughest time. A really well built mono red deck, or a solid goblin deck will both do really well against control. Ux is mostly preying on 4/5 color good stuff decks, combo, slower midrange beat down strategies, and the mirror is well the mirror.

Green has Choke, and blue HATEs Choke .

A resolved choke is almost game over for me, and I run a crap ton of non island lands.

While your list looks like it would eat up Ux control, it's just the kind of match up Ux is looking for. Slow starting that lets the Ux deck developement it's mana base and setup a nice counter wall, and some bounce to keep your down on land while they build their hand each turn with draw spells.

I have been working on this for the past month. Overall it is just a solid B/G/W build that is pretty good against most decks.

Take a look and offer advice on what you like/dislike.

Personally I really like the Mana curve this deck is set at.
1cc- 7
2cc- 12
3cc- 12
4cc- 3
5cc- 3

Yo,
We are only allowed one of each card, but there is the basic game of beat-down, control, and combo being played. We can stack a deck to be the scissors of the game (which is correct if the metagame calls for it) but we will always lose to rock. I feel that is what you are doing here. The decks that would do well in a competitive singleton format call for balance because the field is balanced. Therefore, if you enjoy BG I suggest you tune the deck to be a midrange deck similar to the previous post, but allowing for the sideboard to be varied against your tougher match ups. If you enjoy having an edge on Blue control decks add Red and if against beat down add white.
