I'm more or less a returning player, sold my cards a few years ago and I've decided to get back into it. I started off in RTR with an intro pack, some singles, and a few cheap booster packs off eBay until I realized they were probably from mapped booster boxes.
Currently deciding how to continue. I live in Australia where a booster box will run you >$160 online, >$170 in store, and getting them cheaply from SCG is impossible thanks to export laws. How much do those of you in the US pay for booster boxes? (assuming no loyalty discount) At my price is it even worth getting a booster box in general or just buying singles which I can easily import? I do enjoy cracking the packs but I'm not sure paying an average of $4.75 a pack from a box is worth it.
I really like the flavor of Innistrad and there's several cards I'd love to get from it (Champion of the Parish, Parallel Lives, Intangible Virtue, Liliana of the Veil, most of the white cards) If I do go the path of booster boxes to start with, should I bother with Innistrad/Avacyn or just skip on to Ravnica and get what singles I really want from Innistrad?
Thanks.

I can't really help you with your australia situation, since I have no idea about that
however, I will say that buying boosters just to get cards is not economical you are always better off buying the cards you want as singles
Innistrad will still be legal until October if you want to play with the cards until then or if you want to enter bigger formats such as Modern, then go for it just be prepared for a big pricedrop of your cards in October

Just to be clear, this is not an export law, but Hasbro's own rules that it imposes on its retailers. I'm fairly certain this violates international trade agreements, but I'm no expert.

A booster box typically runs USD 100-110, before discounts.

As already mentioned, booster packs are not an efficient way to get cards. If you want cards, buy a common/uncommon playset, plus the rares you need. Conversely, if you have someone to play Pack Wars or a group to play booster draft with, then you can get added entertainment value from the booster packs.
Do you have a trustworthy friend or relative in the U.S. that can buy cards for you? Shipping costs would be an issue and you have to figure out a good way to transfer money, but it may be cheaper in the long run.

So the price of singles drops somewhat when they leave standard? I mostly play casual at the moment so if Innistrad singles are going to drop at the end of the year I may as well wait.
Then Hasbro sucks. Having to pay a 50% premium for living in Australia is garbage. I could buy a box from SCG for $105 + $30 postage otherwise.
I don't have a friend or relative in the U.S. but I've looked at companies that redirect shipping. Ends up costing more than just buying a box off eBay from the US for about $150 including postage.

that restriction is only for sealed product, so you can still order singles from outside your region

Some places will still sell booster boxes, but they will open all the packs before they ship them (so they arent covered by Wizards rules on sealed product).

That makes no sense to me.
If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY
Is algebra really that difficult?
Survey says yes.
You want to make a milky drink. You squeeze a cow.
I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.
