Confessor. A bit slow, but being able to chump bears late game and get rid of something in their hand is always nice. Assuming the game isnt going horribly, you should be able to afford the life hit.
The last time I got hit with Confessor, my opponent paid to see my entire hand despite being down on life (I was Boros, he was Orzhov), and stripped my hand of an Aurelia, the Warleader that would have won me the game as soon as I had the 6 lands to cast it. He ended up pulling out the game using the power of extortion.

This pack is a perfect example of where I've been failing in draft. I keep getting pushed to black and feeling like I'm settling for sub par cards.
This makes me feel like I should go for the croc here just to fight against that trend. I'm tired of getting stuck with expensive, mediocre black cards right off the bat that make me feel like I'm barely keeping up when I'm actually playing in a game.
Were I to pick one that I might regret picking an unused croc over it would probably be shadow slice, but as most people have noted, that is not good enough to pick P1P4.
I don't like the idea of boros because I don't feel that orzhov or black aggros fast enough (or even intends to aggro) for boros to work as a splash, and I'm scared of having a small-medium number of unused battalion effect-creatures that wind up being practically useless. I still have never picked smog elemental because whenever it comes out it never seems to do much, although against a purely air deck I could see it being an extremely effective sideboard. I don't know if we want to pick sideboard cards as P1P4 though.
The notion we are going to completely flip from orzhov to simic seems like quite a stretch to me, but I want to break this cycle of mediocre black, and if we get strong signals of simic for the rest of the pack, I know I will regret not picking the croc more than I would regret not picking the shadow slice if we don't get more simic.
So Crocanura for me.

Lol sorry, didn't realize we were moving so fast.
Verdant Haven sounds like a lot of fun. I think confessor is definitely the correct choice technically, but I want to see if we can go somewhere fun with this, especially since it does seem like orzhov is getting a little dry, and I am tired of limping along trying to stick to colors.
So I'm jumping on the Verdant Haven bandwagon.

Unfortunately no simic in here except incursion specialist. I'll hedge back to orzhov with confessor.

Waahaa Verdant Haven #DoingIt
Also; Martial Glory fifth is not exactly a signal. I'm glad not to be in Boros (also, Confessor is probably the "safe pick" here).

Taking Confessor would probably ensure that we'll be getting Orzhov stuff pack two, but it might be drying up from our right. On the other hand it's probably the best card in the pack by a fair margin, and none of the other cards are amazing in their guilds, so this pack is not a very good signal for us one way or the other. If we do manage to stay Orzhov, he would probably make the deck; anything with Extort is generally worth it. It's probably the safe pick here.
Since we're not actually playing for anything, I'm really considering 5-color Verdant Haven. All our cards so far are easy enough to splash, but we'll need to pick mana fixing very highly, which sort of conflicts with taking all the best cards we see.
I think I'll vote Verdant Haven. I'm interested in seeing how a 5-color draft works out (when I'm not losing anything on it).

Thank you . I have been reading since RTR, but Gatecrash is giving me real trouble so I figured I needed to get more involved.

I'm ok with the Haven. It doesn't mean we are definitely building the 5-color monstrosity, but it keeps us open to any (color) bombs we see.
Edit: Unless CommanderGreven mis-counted last round. Then I'd switch to the Confessor.
