I would love to get my hands on the M13 playmat. Supercool Colors.

But I don't want to look like a loser in front of my friends.

Personal opinion. As cool as they look, I personally want one for the sentimental value.
Slight tangent, the Dark Ascension one with Thraben Heretic was my favorite

Not sure how old you are, your question makes you sound rather young, but here's a tip : it is rather silly to be held back by what other people might think. You want that playmat and can afford it, get that playmat and if someone laugh at you for that, flip them off and find new friends, they arent worth your time.

Given that some stores (Well, at least mine so probably at least one more beyond that) gave out one of the mats as a random prize I'm going to pencil in a 'no' here. I mean, a Grand Prix mat is slightly more questionable, but even then it doesn't really matter. Certainly a Game Day Mat doesn't matter.

That said, it is wrong to buy a Game Day playmat, but only because the Steam Vents playmat looks so much cooler and you can get one on Amazon for like $14.

Personally, I would have a hard time making the decision myself, too. On one hand you really like the mat, on the other hand you would have to point out that you bought it and didnt win it. It would be a bit like having a trophy cabinet in your house filled with other people's trophies that you bought on ebay, because you like how they look.

Why not get a custom mat made with similar art? That way it is unique and you dont have to feel like you "cheated".

Ive only recently started trading for FNM foils etc that I havent won myself, but that is only because I am having to miss out on the chance to win them right now. For a long time I just stuck to the ones I won myself.

That makes no sense to me.

If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY

You want to make a milky drink. You squeeze a cow.

I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

IMO, it falls within the same territory as Judge Foils, Player Rewards, FNM prizes, etc. If you like it and it's available for purchase, who's business is it if you won it or bought it from someone else. If you want to use it, use it. If you feel some sort of guilt using something you didn't win, deal with it as you see fit.
