popping the idea in out of bordom and inspiration i guess
Pulse Nova Enchant Creature Pulse Nova deals one damage at the beginning of each upkeep, combat step, and end step to each ceature except enchanted creature.
Always wondered how to translate the idea of DoT(Damage over time) over to MTG. It's difficult since dmg is removed after each turn.

This certainly is an interesting area, but...
Why does every other set has Naturalize ? Because it works. Being stagnant or not is secondary to superior gameplay.
That said, please post your ideas for alternative drawbacks, because that's how you'll sell your idea if you're on the right track. You can give us 5 arguments or 500 arguments, at the end of the day giving us 5 ideas that'll inspire us will do it better than arguments ever could.
A picture is worth a 1000 words. A design is worth a 1000 arguments.
per request.... My ideas for some nonbasic lands.

What do you expect to do with lands?
It really doesn't matter, because they're going to cripple it anyway.

I have a couple of ideas --- Land When --- enters the battlefileld, choose a color. : add to your mana pool. : add 3 mana of the choosen color to your mana pool. Sacrifice ---: Draw a card, then discard a card, then draw a card. XXX Enchantment Creatures yo control have haste. When XXX enters the battlefield, XXX deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

I cant believe what sheep some people can be. An article saying it would be hard to design a land that make timmies, johnnies and spikes happy is responsible for land losing its domination? I think it irresponsible for a writer to use his influence to sway the vote cuz he doesnt like one of the choices furthermore i think its pathetic for so many to let themselves be influenced by such a faulty argument. Land is the one item here that can appeal to all 3 psyho-graphics, because all 3 invariably need mana. Explain to me how any of the other options are going to appeal to more than 2 considering they all want different things. Spikes just want to win in the most straight forward way which almost negates any overlap with Timmies who want to pull off a big splashy spell or johnnies that want to pull off that obscure combo from some unknown card interaction. With land we could at least shape he landscape of a whole environment if you push for a card screaming for a cycle. And i would much prefer a dual land to a utiliy land as most utility lands end up being junk bulk rares with little to no use outside of limited, a good dual always has a place in some format.
In general (not always, there are some exceptions), people who voted quickly as soon as they finished reading the YMTC announcement, voted land more than the other 4 options.
People who thought about it a while and read the various arguments, tended to reject land.
Why? Land has a very poor argument behind it. We're not doing this to make yet another boring duel land. I think a lot of people who want to make an uber duel land (which will be rejected and never printed), thinking they can force wizards to cycle it, are just tossing out vague arguments of "but, but... we could probably come up with a cool utility!"
Lands are a very bad option. They can go in every deck, can hit the table on turn 1, cant be countered, and are very hard to remove. They will not let us make a good land, because there's very few ways to tune it. Enchantment is the superior option between the two, and a lot of people who knee-jerk voted land last time around are switching off of it.

Voted for land again and wrote a blogpost about it. Lands are a challenge to design and are flexible. Nuff said.

First of all, I think you are taking You Make The Card a bit too seriously. "sheep"? "irresponsible"? "pathetic"? May I offer some perspective? Remember, it's a fun community activity... and a promotional gimmick... of a card game. It's not electing a President.
Second of all, of course writers are going to discuss You Make The Card and debate the pros and cons of the different choices. Why wouldn't they? Ethan Fleischer and WotC specifically requested the Magic community to sound off and deliberate the options!
Third of all, Robby Rothe is just one community member of many. It's not like he's the Godfather and everyone bows to his wishes. I'm sure most voters hadn't read his article -- I certainly hadn't.

How about using - 1/-1 counters?
Enchant creature At the beginning of each end step, put a - 1/-1 counter on enchanted creature.
When enchanted creature is put into a graveyard, return CARDNAME to the battlefield.
Might be returned to hand or maybe own creature, if powerlevel is to high the other way.

Anyone wishing for a dual land forgets that we're only designing a single card, so its very doubtful that any dual land submision would make it to Top 10 narrowed down by Wizards.
