Todays GTC card to rate is...

Hellraiser Goblin

 Spoiler: Show

5.0
: First pick no matter what.  I will always play this card.
4.5
: Splashable and first pick worthy.
4.0
: First pick pack 1.
3.5
: Early pick though not always a first pick.
3.0
: Solid early/mid pick.
2.5
: Solid pick in color.
2.0
: Should generally make the deck if in this color.
1.5
: Decent filler.
1.0
: 23rd card if you have to.
0.5
: This card will sometimes be sideboarded in.
0.0
: I will never put this card into my deck (main deck or after sideboarding).

I've gone up and down on this card a lot.  Haste is a powerful ability but the having to attack each turn can really hurt.

I'll say 2.5

He can be pretty good or he can sit in your hand and be awkard. Have had both happen. Generally more of the former though.

I'll say 2.5. In red decks you'll want to be attacking most turns anyway.

As low as 1.0, or as high as 2.0 for me.

I have actually played with him in a boros deck.  I had a t-2 skyjek out, played him t-3, then I forget what I played on t-4, but it was enough to break my opponent.  I think 2 of the 3 had flying though.

The very next game, I played him as my first creature....and boooy was that a mistake.  If you're not ready for battalion and to close the game....this guy creatures an almost puesdo pit fight for your opponent.

He pretty much HAS to be played in boros, or "big" gruul and he should either be your 2nd creature (next turn, finish battalion and swing) or be a late game stalemate breaker (if you have big gruul fat). If you play him early.....you're gonna get beat.

This Goon is a little better than a Gray Ogre on average and Gray Ogres are horrible.

2. Only situation I've seen him be bad in was against an opponent's turn 3 Boros Reckoner but that card is ridiculous anyway.

I think an important key is that this probably fits in better with Gruul than Boros.

All it takes is your opponent dropping a 2/4 or something bigger and this guy has the potential to just wreck you - the "creatures must attack" hurts a lot for Boros's smaller dudes.  Quite often Boros gets in a good amount of dmg, then builds up a board presence for the final push or sacrifices one or two small guys to let your skyjecks fly over, but this guy will force you to suicide ALL your guys in.

I think Gruul generally tries to go a bit bigger which means your creatures are at least trading.

A good Boros deck needs stuff like Martial Glory and Aerial Maneuver . If you have those, this guy is a monster. That said, having access to cards like Ghor-Clan Charger does make it a lot less risky.
