I can't speak for everyone else, but the basic land artwork in the core set is becoming a bit same-y. I think it would be great to see some older art printed with the modern card frame, particularly those from Mirage and Tempest. It seems like an easy, simple way to pay homage to Magic's history with the much-discussed twentieth anniversary upon us. And the possibility of getting some Mirage or Tempest lands in foil? *drool*

My favorite (and only) thing I love about the all foil Sliver deck was the fact that they have foil Tempest basics! Oh yeah!
I agree, that would be cool. I love foil basics, and some old ones in new modern (and foil!) frames would be awesome.

I believe that they did this in Planechase and Commander products so you can get your hands on some old lands in new frames if you like. Even some unhinged hands in regular new frames which is pretty confusing to why you would want those...
I personally try to play with all APAC and EURO lands because I find them fun to collect and I get one or two over time and add to the collection. Would be cool if they did another similar series of lands like those.

I liked the Basic Lands in 7th Edition, at least the Mountains, which reminded me of Nicholas Roerich.
Coming up with weird ideas to make everyone happy since 2008! I have now started a blog as an appropriate place to put my crazy ideas.

They re-print old artwork all the time, along with making new one.

Ok, I understand that they bring back old artwork, but I'm pretty sure some have been ignored. If modern card frame versions of the Mirage lands are available and I've somehow missed them, somebody please fill me in! Also, I didn't know that the PDS: Slivers deck had foil versions of Tempest lands. I've gotta look for those.
I've always been partial to the Mirage basics, and prefer them even over full-arts from the Un sets and Zendikar.

Love this Island (spoilered, below). When I get around to making my own 3d card / lifecounter, I expect this will be the base of it.
Interesting: Gatherer doesn't show the "Palm Tree" Mirage island. It shows the below island as both variations 3 and 4 of Mirage Island.

Just two mountains and one swamp, and only white-bordered. magiccards.info/8e/en/344.html magiccards.info/8e/en/345.html magiccards.info/8e/en/339.html (they also show up in 9E).

wotc should do a production run of full art lands of a set of choice.
I could go for full art abur lands.

Basic lands in general should just be full art. They don't have any text anyway and the type line can be moved down to the bottom like it was in Zendikar.
