Hi,
My friend has a Falkenrath Exterminator on the battlefield with one +1/+1 counter and uses its ability to deal damage equal to the number of counters on the creature
I responded with my Thrull Parasite with its ability of paying 2 life to remove a counter
We want to know if the damage get nulled because it now has 0 counters or does the ability remember what it initially started with (1) and still deal 1 damage?
Thanks

that works
it will deal 0 damage, which means no damage, so it will not trigger its other ability

The number of counters on Falkenrath Exterminator is checked when falkenrath exterminator's ability resolves. As a result, no damage will be dealt.

Falkenrath Exterminator Thrull Parasite The Exterminator determines how much damage to deal when its ability resolves, so only the number of +1/+1 counters that it has at that time matter. Removing counters with the Parasite can therefore lower the amount of damage it will deal. If the Exterminator doesn't have any +1/+1 counters when the ability resolves, it simply will deal no damage. The ability isn't countered, though, its resolution will simply result in it not doing anything.

It wouldn't anyway. It's not combat damage and not dealt to a player.
