So I've been toying with the designs for a Wedge block, and I was hoping to run them by all of you.

The wedge is the Kingdom of Asyr. They are a proud warrior nation that vanquishes their foes with their overwhelming military might. Their mechanic is called Conquest. It represents the ruthless might of Asyr's military.

To read more about Asyr, check out the Planeswalker's Guide excerpt I've been working on.

Twinblade Paladin

Creature-Human Knight
Uncommon
Double strike
Conquest - When Twinblade Paladin enters the battlefield, if a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, it enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
2/2

Tomb Guardian

Creature-Zombie Knight
Rare
Deathtouch
Conquest - At the beginning of each end step, if a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, draw a card and lose 1 life.
4/1

Boiling Lead

Common
Sorcery
Boiling Lead deals 3 damage to target creature.
Conquest - If a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, Boiling Lead deals 3 damage to target creature and 3 damage to that creatures controller instead.

Herald of Conquest

Creature-Angel
Uncommon
Flying
Conquest - When Herald of Conquest enters the battlefield, if a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
3/3

Merciless End

Sorcery
Common
Destroy target creature.
Conquest - If a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, exile that creature instead.

Desecrate

Sorcery
Common
Destroy target land.
Conquest - If a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, add to your mana pool.

Grandmaster Argos

Legendary Creature-Human Soldier
Mythic
Double strike
Conquest - At the beginning of each end step, if a permanent an opponent controls was put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token onto the battlefield then put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
2/2

Yeah it's rather Morbidish but with two primary differences.
1. It does not happen when your things get destroyed.
2. It happens off of any permanent, not just creatures.

What do you all think of Conquest?

Conquest on the Twinblade Paladin and non- really bugs me--it feels too much like morbid there, but the paladin isn't black (admittedly it's part of a WRB wedge, but still). Flavorwise, destroying an artifact or enchantment doesn't feel 'conquesty', though it works well with creatures/land. 2/2 double-strike for 3 feels really strong for an uncommon, not even counting Conquest.

In a vacuum, something along the lines of 'Domination' feels like a more appropriate name for the mechanic as it is now. 'Conquest' sounds like something that should be associated with lands and/or creatures exclusively, maybe stretching as far as artifacts. 'Conquest' however fits nicely with the wedge colors. I don't know if you want to change the name or the mechanic itself though.

I guess it's hard to see how this is different from any other jingoistic military nation; how is it different from a R or RW society?

ETA: I like the spoils idea though.

The setting is that a hell of a long time a go, five planeswalkers waged war on this plane (I'm calling it Pentova until I can think of something less terrible) against one another.
Afraid of what their fight might do to their prize, they decided to settle the fight by proxy and gathered armies to fight in their stead.
Now, millenia later, their founders have all but faded from memory but the five armies, now organized into kingdoms, still fit the war they've long since forgotten the origins of.

spoils?

Morbid, minus sac outlet shenanigans but it goes for any permanent.

Nice trigger there, and it plays for this being the "removal wedge".

It doesn't feel very "conquest"-y to me.  Feels more like Pillaging.  I would think conquest would indicate subjigation, suppression and/or assimilation.

Flavor wise these all read: " We utterly destroyed our enemy and now revel in the spoils of war."

I would think conquest would affect your opponent indicating the subjegation of a populace.  Then again I guess it depends on how the individual defines "conquest"

Outside of my flavor comments, I like the design.

That's like complaining that Evolve is like Modular.

totally unrelated

What about

Conquest (Whenever this creature attacks, target land defending player controls doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.)

like ajani vengeant. Always have a soft spot for ld.

That feels a lot more like Conquest to me..attacking being the trigger.
