Hi all,

I'm wondering if I copy a legendary creature (e.g. with a Phyrexian Metamorph ), but before it resolves, I use a removal on the legendary creature (e.g. Swords to Plowshares or Oblivion Ring ), will the copy come into the battlefield, or will there be no copy? I know that if the creature spell resolves, the legendary creature and the copying card will go to the graveyard; so, I would have to use a removal of some kind...

Thanks for the clarification!

What you're proposing isn't possible.   Phyrexian Metamorph copies a creature/artifact as it enters the battlefield.  This isn't a triggered ability, and it doesn't target when the Metamorph is cast (no creature spells target, for that matter).

You can respond to your casting of Phyrexian Metamorph while it's still on the stack to remove a legendary creature from the battlefield via Swords to Plowshares or something similar, but if you do so, that creature won't be on the battlefield to be copied anymore by the time your Metamorph resolves.

Alternatively, if you let the Phyrexian Metamorph enter the battlefield as a copy of a legendary creature, both legendary creatures will be put into the graveyard as a state-based action before any player receives priority.

Also, Oblivion Ring is an Enchantment, and can't be cast unless it's your main phase, you have priority, and the stack is empty -- just clarifying, as it sounds like you intended to use O-Ring in response to something, which cannot be done unless it has flash ( Leyline of Anticipation , etc.).

PM only picks what to copy on resolution, so if you remove the Legendary before PM resolves, the Legendary won't be available for PM to copy.

(Oblivion Ring can't be cast in response to something, only instants. Activated abilities can be activated too.)

Phyrexian Metamorph does not target, so you choose what it copies as it resolves. This means that the creature you want to copy has to be on the battlefield when Phyrexian Metamorph enters the battlefield.

If it's a legendary creature, state-based actions will cause both it and Phyrexian Metamorph to be put into their owners' graveyards before you have a chance to use any kind of removal.

Can I regenerate the Phyrexian Metamorph , say, using a Yavimaya Hollow , at the exact instance the legendary creature and Phyrexian Metamorph are on the battlefield?

No, since no one gets priority at that time. The Legend rule doesn't use the stack, so you can't respond to it.

In addition, regenerating a legendary permanent will not save it from being Legend-ruled.

This is because regeneration only replaces destruction, and the only things in Magic that actually destroy are:
- damage marked on a creature equal to or greater than it's toughness
- damage from a source with Deathtouch
- things that say "destroy"

Since the Legend rule is none of these, regeneration wouldnt help/

That makes no sense to me.

If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY

I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

use Riku

He will trigger when Metamorph enters as a copy of the legendary creature and it will put a copy on the field (if you pay the cost) after both the original Metamorph and the original legendary creature have been sent to the graveyard leaving you with a token copy of the legendary creature except it's also an artifact
