If an Equipment is attached to a creature and you activate its Equip ability targeting the same creature, the Equipment doesn't detach itself and then reattach does it?

No, it does not. EDIT: 701.3b...If an effect tries to attach an Aura, Equipment, or Fortification to the object it’s already attached to, the effect does nothing.

it doesn't even get a new timestamp for example, you have a creature out with Loxodon Warhammer  equipped someone plays Humility  in order for you to regain Trample and Lifelink you need to equip it to a different creature, "reequipping" to the same creature will do nothing
