Did anyone else manage to get their playset before the spike in price? This card is going to do a lot of work in my mono red deck. I can't wait to play him.
Had to act fast but I just compleated my order for 12 copies for 44 bucks. It pays to know the websites that are slow to update their prices
That's awesome
I think it was pretty easy to see that this card would go up in value. I did immediately. I probably should have got more of them, but I only really wanted a playset and facetoface ran out of stock pretty shortly after I preordered.
This card is just crazy good, and I expect it to see play in at least 3 big deck archetypes. There aren't that many good 3-drops in standard, and this one does everything you want in Standard for 3 mana. People were way too focused on stuff like Frontline Medic to see that Boros Reckoner was the better card.
I had the tremendous misfortune of playing against a guy in the prerelease who pulled two of these in his packs. In our first game he played one on turn four, then the second on turn five. It was the most exquisite rape I've experienced since having returned to the game. They're scary, scary cards, and just the kind of non-mythic rare that I would have expected to climb rapidly in price.
To whom it may concern: it's getting really old, being unable to see the top half of anything autocarded in the first post of each thread. Fixplz, kthx.
His abilities are counter-productive, and his entire purpose (Being a Stuffy Doll that dies) is just terrible. Why not just run a burn spell? For three coloured mana, even hybrid mana, you could do much better.

Because the abilities don't help each other, doesn't make him terrible. The card is actually very good for a 3 drop, with the only downside being the color intensity.
3/3 for 3 is on curve - check. First strike is a very relevant combat ability - means he gets through or defends against Thragtusk - check. His 'recoil' ability means that unless the blocker, or attacker he's blocking has a ginormous ass (like a 3/7 for example, and who'd play that?) he's going to trade - check. When built around, can do some stupid stuff - basically turning red sweepers into also pingers (*cough* Blasphemous Act *cough*) - check.
I'm not familiar enough with standard to know what kind of decks are running and if he has a place, but he's certainly checking a lot of boxes to make me think he'll see play in a tier 1 or 2 deck at some point.
I'm all about super-control in MTG. If you're able to stop my shenanigans, then there aren't enough shenanigans.

This is the view that most people had who didn't pre-order him for $3. Trust me, play with him as a 3-drop in mono red and you will change your opinion. Those who understand virtual card advantage will understand why his default ability is so good, especially since the power of creatures is getting larger for the respective mana costs. The first striker is good bye Geralf's Messenger and good bye Tragtusk when you can't just win on turn 4 or 5. He also gives you many oppurtunities to 2-for-1, which a burn spell wouldn't be able to do usually, except for Flames of the Firebrand - which also happens to be costed at 3 mana and does a lot less than Boros Reckoner does.
Oh, and in Gruul or Naya, you can use Clan Defiance for double damage.

I'll refrain from anything pertaining to Thragtusk, because I honestly don't think Standard is relevant. You can ask why, but the fact that one single not-that-good card is dominating the entire format should be a hint.

Unless the opponent:
1. Doesn't block and takes a measly 3 damage.
2. Packs removal.
If it wasn't worth it on Spitemare , it won't be worth it here. People have tried to break that thing ever since it came out, to no avail. Making it borderline-efficient doesn't turn the ability good all of a sudden.
Again, absolutely irrelevant to card power. The Standard meta is far too insular and small to be able to judge card power accurately. Unless a card performs well in an Eternal format, it can't be more than situationally useful at best.
