On a recent thread in the Design & Development forum I described Runic Repetition and cards like it as a sort of "multi-card O-Ring". But what would a literal multi-card O-Ring look like?

Holding Cell -
Sorcery
Exile target creature. Return that card to the battlefield when a player casts a spell named Holding Cell.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

I think it's something with how O-Ring lets you return exiled creatures to the game again, or something.
Either way, the card is quite cool.

O-Ring has one ability that exiles something, and another, separate ability that returns it on the same card. Imagine if those two abilities weren't on the same card--you'd have one card that's made to exile something, and a completely different card that's made to return whatever the first card exiled.

Runic Repetition is like that. You have a card (or in this case an entire class of cards) that naturally exile something (themselves), and then you have a completely different card that's designed specifically to return those exiled cards.

Another way of doing it would be something like this:

Hold for Questioning -
Sorcery
Exile target creature. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control when a player casts a spell named Release Order.

Release Order -
Instant
Each player gains 1 life for each creature he or she controls.

The issue with this mechanism though is that players might see only one card and not the other, so you need to mention the return card on the exiling card, and the return card has to have some other effect so people won't think it's completely useless. Balancing the two cards and the mini-metagame they create is likely to be tricky, so once I came up with this templating for the exiling card I figured making it work off of itself would be easier to balance, and easier to flavor besides.

So a an example slightly closer to a Runic Repetition would be"

Red Creatures Suck
Sorcery
Exile target red creature. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control when a player casts a spell called Blue Creatures Suck.

Blue Creatures Suck
Sorcery
Exile target blue creature. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control when a player casts a spell called Red Creatures Suck.

"I think me going Bang bang bang I win is pretty intuitive"

Moriok Rigger does absolutely nothing to boost other riggers. You are incorrect.

Moriok Rigger is not a Rigger in print. Only in Errata

WHAT NOW!

(yes, I did put that phrase in for that exact reason)

Congratulations, they have activated your trap card!

Yup; possibly more if I accidentally duplicated some numbers--I remember doing it at least once, and skipped a number to make up for it.

Yeah, something like that. Interesting idea on balancing out the return card, too.

I think the biggest problem with this is that there's nothing stopping you from playing one, and then you've got a 2 mana unmake.
Great design though.
