yes
you have to do that before you cast the creature spell and "float" the mana

you mean the mana stays in my mana pool during. and could couse mana burn if not used i suppose.

but there still  will be a priority exchange between the 2 mana paid and the last mana as it comes in to play with an activated ability witch still can be countered i guess.

Announcing the spell first and tapping the Elf after is technically illegal, but it's perfectly acceptable under the out-of-order sequencing rules.

To be more specific, you get a chance to activate mana abilities as part of casting a spell. Tapping your Forest s for is a mana ability, but Arbor Elf 's ability is not. You will have to tap a Forest first and untap it with Arbor Elf before you cast the spell for this to work.

there is no more mana burn

you have to use Arbor Elf before casting the spell, because you can't use it during (you could use Llanowar Elves during casting)

 so i would have to:
1. pay 1 green mana tapping a forest
2.use the activated ability of arbor elf  untap and re tap the forest
3. tap the 2. forest to pay the 3. mana cost.

but still after step 2. this prosedure can be countered by an instant witch alters an activated ability.

yes? XD

no

you have to
1. tap 1 Forest to generate
2. untap that Forest with Arbor Elf
3. tap that Forest again for 1 more

now you have in your pool
you can now either cast your Leatherback Baloth and generate the remaining during casting or generate that before you cast it

when i tap the arbor elf

can my opponent play reroute and disturb the prosedure stealing the mana for himself?

if he does. he probably will have to control a forest. (witch will act like an additional cost to playing his instant)

 right?

or he cant interfere becouse its a mana ability?

and in the end will all this be legal in a fnm?
