I just was wondering what people think about using Fathom Mage and Ring of Evos Isle as a draw engine for decks. Do you think it would be competitive enough? What types of decks would best use this combo?

If I'm playing two bad cards, they'd better win me the game together.   honden of seeing winds is not a compelling enough reason.
I don't have an egosig because I'd rather my ideas be judged on their merits than on mine.

thats not a bad combo, its not mind blowing, but its not bad...

if you're going to use one of the rings at least use a semi-good one like ring of kalonia , that way you can start beating their face in later in the game regardless of how many chump blockers they have.

also since when is fathom mage a bad card? it seems like it has a lot of potential especially if you have an effective way to put +1/+1 counters on it every turn, hince the ring of evos isle or ring of kalonia .

Well I was thinking Evos Isle would be the best one as hexproof would serve to protect the draw engine. If you were an aggro deck I could see kalonia being more useful.

It seems cute, but a tad slow for standard.

The problem with this is threefold:
1:  the cards are pretty mediocre on their own
2:  their interaction doesn't even give you that much
3:  while you're setting it up and investing mana, they're probably doing their own things at a lower cost (like killing your fathom seer, or playing 2 power 1 drops and beating your face in).

Also, the existence of Prime Speaker Zegana . Two more mana and you probably have a Titan that draws 6. Stop thinking about interactions, and start playing Battlecruiser bro's.

Just how I grew up playing magic. It used to be all about interactions between multiple cards.

lol. Let's hope it gets back to that eventually. I feel more and more like Magic is turning into Yu-Gi-Oh, and that's not where I want to be.

It doesn't take a genius to mash up the best cards in three colors and call it a deck. Sometimes, there's a little surprise in power level (Delver and Squadron Hawk). Even Stoneforge was overlooked a little. But not anymore... it's all about Thragtusks, Prime Speakers, Hellkites, Geists, Revelation, etc.

I mean, good stuff decks have always existed. Nothing new with that concept. We're just seeing less combo decks existing in standard.
