Hey all Really quick question before I head off to the Pre-release - I would appreciate a speedy response. Lets say I control 4 Invisible Stalker s, and I cast Last Thoughts , encoding onto one of my Stalkers. Then I attack with that Stalker, and deal combat damage to my opponent. The ability granted by the encoded Last Thoughts triggers, casting a copy of the card, making me draw a card. That much I get. But what happens to the Cipher ability on the copy? Does it encode the copy onto another creature? Many thanks! ~ Tim

Not bad. But what happens flavor wise when one kamahl kills the other one?
Zis iz a sign uf deep psychological troma, buried in zer subconscious mind. By keelink himzelf, Kamahl iz physically expressink hiz feelinks uf self-disgust ova hiz desire for hiz muzzer. [/GermanPsychologistVoice]
That makes no sense to me.
If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?
~ Tim
Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY
Is algebra really that difficult?
Survey says yes.
You want to make a milky drink. You squeeze a cow.
I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

No it doesn't work like that
702.97a Cipher appears on some instants and sorceries. It represents two static abilities, one that functions while the spell is on the stack and one that functions while the card with cipher is in the exile zone. "Cipher" means "If this spell is represented by a card, you may exile this card encoded on a creature you control" and "As long as this card is encoded on that creature, that creature has 'Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, you may copy this card and you may cast the copy without paying its mana cost.'"

No.
The rules of the Cipher ability specify that the spell must be represented by a card if it is to be encoded on another creature. A copy of a card is not actually a card, and cannot be encoded.

And the copy is represented by a copy of a card, which isnt actually a (physical) card, so the copy doesnt get Ciphered. Brilliant, thanks!
Thats how I thought it worked but I needed to be sure incase I had to explain it to someone today.
Cheers!
