We believe this creation meets the criteria by dint of using an exclusively white ability, and justifying it through the secondary vigilance colour in green, and the colour often used to highlight speed in red. This is actually an almost coherent card. I like the Phyrexian mana implying that you would do anything for Science. Of course, its actually magic...which just confuses things...normally I would consider magic and science as opposites, when in a world like this one they go hand in hand. Magisence? Sciencical? Any way...I'm not sure what chips are. Do you use actual chips? Corn or potato? Corn chips are wayyy better than potato chips could ever be. I'd promote you but I'm sure that would come back to bite me in the end. REJECTED for questionable grasp on grammar and forcing me to try to combine the word magic and science.

So I've created a lizardfolk that has enough leafy camouflage that it can sneak around the wilds of the Rubble Belt undetected by most. Red and green don't really play the "exile game" at all so this is a notable departure from the color pie. Hopefully I sold the treefolk part by the flavor and the fact that, by sacrificing a land, this creature is temporarily becoming a plant to escape its enemies. On a power level note: since this thing has First Strike, it usually does its damage first and then can hide away before real damage happens (which would normally kill it).
Flavor text is obviously from Jurassic Park. I feel old.

Progression Chamber Land add or to your mana pool. At the beginning of your end step, if you cast a green or blue spell, you may put an experiment counter on ~. Creatures you control enter the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters where X is the number of experiment counters on ~.
This card is just too good. Broken one might say. Now, I love dual lands as much as the next guy, but I understand why wizards doesn't print them anymore, even though they have come as close as they can with many of their designs without actually just reprinting them. At the very least this land should have been legendary. I like the effect, its was just stuck on a card that can never see print. REJECTED.

I like that its an artifact because it helps capture the weaponize a puppy flavor my implying it was something crafted after a puppy, which is a nice take on it that helps get around the rather difficult criteria. The discarding effect also portrays a 'suprise' that the poor victim wouldn't see coming, which of course would be the point of weaponizing a puppy. This card is likely a little too strong. The right deck would turn the discard into a positive and its abilites are so versatile you don't mind discarding in many cases. I like the design space. This card just screams Cycle to me. The flavor text makes me cringe a little inside. PROMOTED.

"I was skeptical at first, but the field tests have been incredibly promising. Surely the applications for this 'kyootniss' are unfathomable" ~Project Cuddles Lab Notes 1/2
You have captured the flavor of the puppy very well. It's cute, it's cuddly, it has a strong mechanic that makes me immediately think of this cute little puppy staring wide eyed and this horrific beast charging down on it and stopping in its tracks, overcome with the desire to snuggle it instead. I'm not sure how well this is 'weaponized' since it doesn't actually hurt anything. This is a strong effect that I don't find to be overpowered. I'm surprised this card hasn't been printed yet. Love the flavor text. PROMOTED.
Splice Archive Land At the beginning of your upkeep, you may move a +1/+1 counter from a creature you control to ~. : Add to your mana pool. : Add X mana in any combination of and/or to your mana pool where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on ~.
Solid design that fits wonderfully into the Simic. The effect is strong but not overpowering and makes the johnny in me want to try to break it, which I don't think I can easily do. I'm curious...couldn't you say 'Add X to your mana pool where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on this.'? This card could and should be printed. I would be strongly tempted to give it Graft so you could move some more counters around but that might push it into the realm of too good. PROMOTED.
Splice Chamber Land When ~ enters the battlefield, you may exile any number of permanents you control. T: add 1 to your mana pool 8UG, T: Choose two cards exiled by ~. Put a token that is a copy of one of those cards onto the battlefield, except it has the rules text of the other card.
Such an intriging card. There are so many possibilities that make my brain hurt when I try to consider the two things I could combine. The effect is very pricy, I may have lowered it a bit, but I can't fault you for it considering what it may be capable of. I'd be sticking enchantment and artifact effects on lands I think. I could comb Gatherer for hours likely looking for the silly and super fun things I could do with this. It nails the idea of a lab and the spirit of experimentation. PROMOTED.
First Strike Revenge (Whenever this creature is dealt damage, you may prevent the damage and sacrifice it. If you do, destroy target nonland permanent with converted mana cost equal to or lower than the amount of damage prevented.)

At first I thought that Revenge was too good, but the more I thought about it the more I realized how easily it could be played around. The biggest problem I can see is you damaging your own creatures to spot remove something, which is hardly an issue. Turning a fireball into a disenchant is an interesing idea. I think I would have to see it in action before I could properly critique it. You mentioned that it was a wedge mechanic so that really helps control its effect, as well as the low toughness. As for the criteria, I don't see alot of puppy in it, more like a full grown dog at this point, and even then you could likely put any creature type on it and it would be ok. REJECTED.
Impression Chamber Land When Impression Chamber comes into play choose a creature type. Add to your mana pool. Target creature you control is the chosen type in addition to its other types. Gorilla arms! Everyone gets gorilla arms, you get gorilla arms! You get gorilla arms! ~ Biomancer Oppra
Nice and simple, elegant and flavorful. Unfortunately it is strictly better than a basic land. I hate that dual lands don't exist because Magics biggest failing is its resource system, however I also reluctantly agree that a land should not be strictly better than a basic. This one does ride the line nicely on the power level though. I can see the discussion at the conference room at Wizards "But its better than a basic....well we have printed those types of cards before...but they were legendary...but this card doesn't feel legendary and it's not overpowered at all...but its better than a basic...well we have printed those....etc etc. I want to promote you for this since it pretty much nails a Simic lab in such an elegant way, and it is my contest, so dammit...benchmarks be (occasionally) damned! PROMOTED.
Mutagenic Swamp Land When Mutagenic Swamp enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you pay 2 life. Mutagenic Swamp enters the battlefield tapped Whenever a creature you control dies, if it had 1 or more +1/+1 counters on it, you may add the same number of splice counters to this card. Once per turn, you may activate one of these effects - :Remove 2 splice counters from Mutagenic Swamp and draw one card, or, :Remove a splice counter from Mutagenic Swamp and place a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. : Add to your mana pool Overheard within Zameck - "Don't worry that you lost your DNA sample. A troll just stomped on one of my pets. Just throw it in the vat instead and see what pops out. Don't ask about the troll."
I feel your pain on the losing the counters. Unfortunately, this card is trying to do too much. It has too much text, the effects feel jumbled on the card and it needs to be re-templated to be easier to understand. The lose of life seems arbitray to me, plus its called a swamp and it doesn't tap for black which just feels wierd. I think I would have given it graft instead of bothering with the modal tapping. You could also have just used +1/+1 counters instead of the conversion of splice counters. Maybe : remove all counters from a permanent you control, draw a card?" That might be too good as well, especially on low cost evolve creatures. Love the idea, not a fan of the execution. REJECTED.

A puppy is hard to weaponize, but you hit on the way I had considered myself. The first ability seems a little tacked on to me. I like it, I feel it plays flavoribly with the puppy idea, but I'm not sure it needs to be on the card. The second ability is very strong and interesting. It forces a lot of different choices on the players, depending on board presence. The activation cost is what really makes it shine for me. If I had made this design myself, I likely wouldn't have had that on it, but I see the wisdom of it and feel I learned a little as a designer judging this card. PROMOTED.

I think you pretty much nailed it this round. It's a puppy, that is suddenly something more. Its well costed for the effect and I love the measure of control it has. "But, but...I like my puppy the way he is...I don't want him to grow up." I wanted to write more, but there was nothing more to say. Why does it eat princesses? PROMOTED.

Man I hate it when people makes cards when they obviously have a much stronger grasp of comp rules that I do. Can you exchange mana costs on cards? The effect may be too strong. Manipulating mana costs is a neat idea from a Simic lab standpoint. You would be able to create creatures of a much wider variety which feels very Simic. However, if I am reading this right, doesn't this mean that I could cast a fireball with only green and blue mana? As long as I was going to play the spell that turn it effectively taps for a mana of any color no? I am afraid it is very unbalancing. If this mana could only be used to play creatures I would have been more comfortable with it. REJECTED.
Scaled Oaklimb | Creature - Viashino Treefolk Scaled Oaklimb may block any number of creatures. Limbs as hard as weathered oak. Roots as fast as a striking snake. 3/6
A very solid entry yet again. You picked a great off color ability whose effect definitely normally sits in white, but it can easily be ported to the other colors with no major impact or fanfare. The card is elegant, which I always love. The card is steeped in the flavor of both its creature types. Simic Powerplant enters the battlefield tapped. Simic Powerplant does not untap during your untap step. Add , , or to your mana pool. Whenever you put a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, you may untap Simic Powerplant.
The most wonderful thing about biomancy is that growth fuels growth.
Thats a strong card. Too strong. The only deck that you would likely play this deck in is a Simic deck which doesn't considering that drawback a drawback at all but a huge plus. You could likely untap this card 2-3 times a turn without much effort, just feeding you the mana you needed to keep it going. At three mana it would have been insane (more insane anyways). Being able to rifle off six cards that it could likely go infinite with is a pointer, imo, that the card is a little unbalanced. Very neat idea though. If you removed the "does not untap" clause and reduced it to one mana it might have been a little more printable, but likely still broken. REJECTED.
Barkhide Viashino - Creature - Viashino Treefolk Reach, Haste As long as it is your turn, ~ gets +2/-3 and has first strike. The swift ferocity of a viashino and the unflinching sturdiness of a treefolk. 1/5
Reach is solidly green, but rare on Treefolk. Haste is (obviously) very red. The +power/-toughness is quite red as well. While it is always possible that I am missing something, I do not see any ability that is out of pie on this card. Other than that, its a fine card. I like that so far the biovisionaries entries have been low on the power scale. I must also be old because I knew it was from Jurassic Park immediately. Of course I've watched that movie ALOT with my daughters when they were younger. Want to feel younger? I saw Star Wars: A New Hope in the theatre when it first released. As for the card, its very viashino, but I find the treefolk difficult to find. The idea of an Ambush fern tickles me pink though. Being ambushed by a fern. Seriously that one is going to have me chuckling in my cube for days. Nice job on the out of pie ability as well. There is no reason for that ability to only reside in white as far as I am concerned. The card is a great limited card. A first pick for sure. See the next rankings post for who I have decided is the Biovisionary to lead the pack.

I have been running some minor experiments on a type of deep-sea slug lately. I picked up a few specimens while doing some work in the lower labs, and decided to bring them back with me.
I dropped one into my aquarium at home to see how the baby Shambleshark s would interact with it. As expected, they viewed it as food, and acted accordingly. However, the slug was far tougher to kill than I expected. Watching the scene unfold gave me an idea. I still had some of Zuna's DNA leftover, after absorbing most of it myself, and decided to infuse the rest into the slug. My intention was to enable the slug's primitive brain to evolve to the point where it could channel its abilities at will.
The slug was extremely receptive to the new DNA, and began to show signs of advanced intelligence. It called me a "jerk" for killing it, but forgave me after I apologised (and promised to take it out for a 'nice meal' once in awhile).
*I am told to refer to it as 'her' from now on if I know what's good for me*
There are a few more tests to run before I present her to the masters, so I should get back to work. (sigh)

Ugh, i just got this to where I want it, went back and read everyones cards and discovered how similar my design is to Esterdi's. Curses. That was completely coincidental, but its gonna stay unless I can think of something else before the deadline.
This looks...ok, I think. Well...I think I've balanced this guy out. I like that this works well with my old favorite type of deck..a WALL DECK. The earliest you can get a 12/12, Shadow, Hexproof creature is turn 9...Phyrexian Dreadnought . Without mana ramp that is...
This card would need an errata section for all the X abilities (Rampage, Graft) which would work just like spells cast for free. X would always = 0, one for complicated abilities (Level Up, Soulbond) which would state that the ability can be given to a creature, but that no new abilities could be created for it. (Creature gets Soulbond, but bond with a creature does nothing, creature gets level up, but gaining levels provide no tangible benefit), and one for keyword abilities for non-creatures which indicates which abilities are illegal (totem armor).

Aight, to the challenge.
I wanted to create a card that really takes advantage of everything the Simic offers, and more, and this was the result. So what does the new Simic guild do? Evolve. Blue stuff. Green stuff. How did I want to translate that? I knew I wanted to make a card that added serious draw power to your deck. Maybe even deck searching. Of course, with combos, that can get really out of hand. So this is the result. We have a new speaker who "draws" cards like a true blue, and likes playing with bigger creatures like a lean, mean, green machine. And of course, the ability to choose what creature that is fits well with the evolve mechanic. To keep the ability I gave it from getting outta hand, I put some limits on it. First, it isn't super duper cost efficient. Second, tapping makes it a once a turn deal unless you invest in a chain with intruderm alarm or something else, and the creatures-only restriction prevents pulling something totally stupid like Enter the Infinite, Hive Mind, or something simiarly annoying/evil/stupid.b

REJECTED.
What if it only gave or , or only untapped after the second +1/+1? I might move this one out too. This design makes me want to design a set. The set's lands will be color specific untap lands similar to this one.
It only ramps slightly faster than Burning-Tree Emissary if you have a perfect draw. Otherwise, even with a build around it pretty much just gives you an Emissary.
Besides that its on par with Gyre Sage , in order to make full use of it you have to craft around it, which actually ends up lowering its usefulness.
I think you're overestimating its usefulness. It SOUNDS overpowered, but it really only ups the power of specific cards (Cloudfin Raptor , Nivmagus Elemental , and Zameck Guildmage ). It has less infinite possibilities (I only found two) than Illusionist's Bracers and the comboes which allow it to go infinite are slower and less useful than the Bracers' comboes.
Ah, I think you're right. Spoiler:

This is a difficult card to grade. Its so powerful. It's not going to stay a 0/1 for very long. Picking a card at random is 99% of the time just : draw a card. It's too good. Everyone would always play this card in every deck. Plus its not very simic. Primal Forcemage that is a lot more expensive, while possible to abuse, I'm not sure if it would rule the guild. I like that it likely allows evolve to trigger almost every creature play, which is very nice. The more I type the more I like this card. It plays very nicely with many other Simic cards to be sure. I like that it actually helps out the other creatures you play instead of boosting up itself from the creatures you control, something all good guild leaders should do. It hits that power level that isn't overpowered but is still nice and strong, especially in Simic. Nice job on being aware of what you were designing for. PROMOTED.

Giving all your creatures hexproof is strong. For the cost of this card I would hope that this guild leader would have at least had 1 +1/+1 counter on it, or graft, at least evolve. I want my guild leader to come in with hexproof hot from the oven. I do like that the strength of your leader is based on the strength of its followers which captures the flavor of a leader well. The Simic Lab Masters are not sure this is the kind of leader that is going to bring us into the future. REJECTED.
Zigmarion, Dean of Genes Legendary Creature - Merfolk Wizard Mutant (M) Evolve You hand size becomes the total number of +1/+1 counters among creature you control. To fully understand the subject, you have to be the experiment. 2/4
Very interesting. I like that the effect is highly abuseable with no maximum hand size effects, but that those effects would require more deck building not to kill yourself. It's a risky proposition, but that is what the Simic Lab Masters are looking for. They need someone that is not afraid to take chances, especially with the kind of power this card provides. It becomes more powerful based on the creatures you control which was one of the criteria I was looking for this round. The Simic Lab masters are pleased. PROMOTED.

This ability removes one less Loyalty Counter per creature with Evolve or Universal Evolve you control. "What the current guild leadership fails to undersand is not only how utterly we can overpower the others, but also how pointless diplomacy is at this point." - Esterdi
Starting Loyalty: 4
Memory issues could be a problem for the tokens. I think I personally would have included flying as one of the effects you could choose since it seems to be one of the pinnacles of evolution. I meant to add no planeswalkers for this round, but I completely forgot to mention that oh so important fact so no worries there. The second ability is interesing. I like how it promotes the use of creatures with high power and toughness instead of fancy tricks, which really, evolution just loves. Survival of the fittest and all that. I do not like You Win effects personally and I think they are cheap, but this one is difficult enough to achieve and I think would provide some nice tension in the game and rewards your opponents for something they would be doing anyways (killing your creatures). Plus it feeds off of the creatures you control which was hidden requirement number one. PROMOTED.

This card makes me scared. It's well costed, the double counters item is great. That countering...I love how it plays into the idea of evolution with picking and choosing which creatures come into play and it forces some skill on knowing what to counter. But at the same time, that counter ability is something that could very easily lead to some very unfun moments for your opponent. And by unfun I mean Rage Quits and life threats. It boosts your guild members which is nice, but doesn't feed off of the creatures that are currently in your guild as much as I was looking for. This creature is a single player. It doesn't care what else you have on the table most of the time. With a power of 4, you can already counter most creatures and after one evolution trigger you've likely got the game locked down. This frightens the Lab Masters a lot. REJECTED.

This is a good card, but I'm not sure it needs to be a rare and it definitely isnt a guild leader. I would put this as a 1st pick simic uncommon myself. Poor Zuna, I feel a little sorry for her. So far she is one of the only victims of your madness, but she certainly has suffered. At least she not that mad about being killed and then turned into a slug. She is going to get picked off quick, so the hexproof on your other creatures is nice but not over powered. The card draw is nice, but low powered. The Simic Lab Masters are looking for something that is going to carry them into the future, which Zuna is not going to do. REJECTED.

I'm not sure Landfall is a simic mechanic as much as a green one, but there's no reason to knock you for it. This card is balanced and powerful, all things you want in a guild leader. As your influence grows, Alarron makes his followers more powerful, which is the type of effect I was looking for this round. The landfall ability plays in well with the "moving into the future" flavor. The second ability is simic, green, blue and strong. The Simic Lab Masters are happy to see such a solid speciment. This card works on many different levels. It searches out its own followers, recruiting as it can. I like how more powerful creatures are harder to recruit, but that each follower you play out just brings more followers in or ups your power a bit. I can definitely appreciate someone that tries to push the envelope in Magic. This card has many original ideas in it and I can tell you thought carefully about the wording, which can be difficult when you are trying to create something that magic hasn't really done before, or did a long time ago and has terrible templating for. Lets take this card a line at a time, rules wise. I'm not sure there is a need to possibly nerf your own guys. This ability is defintely a drawback, I'm just not sure why it is necesarry looking at the other abilities. The second ability I beleive is broken in the sense that you can just keep exiling your creature to bring it right back again. If you have the mana open I think your creatures are going to be difficult to kill, which I don't think was your intention with this ability. I believe you wanted to turn your existing creatures into Mutants, which this does with the unfortunate side effect of saving any creature that is about to die by exiling it and bringing it back. I love the giving of keyword abilities. It is a very granular ability that is of the nature a Grand Designer would be working with. The first thing you are likely to say everytime, targetting Starkage, is hexproof, and then likely intimidate to produce an unblockable untargetable creature. If I searched Gatherer I could probably find something better to abuse this with. I do like that this guys vision is to change everyone in the Combine into Mutants. He makes his followers stronger for sure, but I see more Evil Genius here than Guild Leader. REJECTED.

This guy makes his own guild! Protection from instants is something I have always been surprised that Wizards hasn't printed before. Now, I'm not really sure why he has this type of protection as it doesn't seem to have much to do with the card itself, but it is interesting. The card draw, for that cost I think you could safely just draw the card instead of discard, but the discarding effect gets across the idea of experimentation and failure, and plays into the madness idea you flavor texted. I was told once that Wizards no longer uses the activation cost. It appears only on Planeswalkers now I think. Does anyone have any idea how this type of ability is templated now? Because I have a number of cards that seem to require it in my card files and I would love to know what I am supposed to do instead. Overall, I like the card, but it doesn't care about the creatures in the guild per se, although it does make followers. He feels like a Mad Scientist instead of a guild leader. The Simic Lab Masters are not sure this card is a good fit. REJECTED.

I have a card in one of my set files with the text "Each creature you control has all abilities of all other creatures you control." but yours is a lot more interesting with the Graft and the evolve. This card plays very nicely with the simic and it works very closely with the other creatures in the guild. i was specifically looking for a card that interacts with its followers in some way, like a guild leader would. That first ability, I would love to actually see it in play to know how brutally overpowered it really is. I haven't had the chance to play test, but that ability just screams "Achievement Unlocked - Push calls in queue for Wizards Customer Service to 3 days wait time". Love the flavor text. Its certainly balanced, with the chance of being very tiny, but it wouldn't be long until he got huge. At that price it makes me a little sad that I can't just play him if I don't have any counters out. Maybe a comes into play trigger with distributing counters? He meets the criteria I had of caring about the other creatures in the guild. Plus he makes them and himself stronger which all good guild leaders do. The funny thing is, this is one of the first cards that I don't particularily like, but is undeniably well designed and balanced. PROMOTED. I like the playing off the tokens because if any creatures in magic feel "created", its tokens. The whole card has an interesting vibe for me, like theres a sub-culture of created creatures that are planning a revolution against their masters, while at the same time these said masters are working on overthrowing their current masters. You even use the creatures in your deck as pawns (and genetic material) to create those that would aid your plans. How often do tokens have activated abilities? Gatherer is down right now so I can't check, but I don't think there are very many, which not only keeps this ability in check but also creates interesting interactions in the future. I held this round for you! No, I kid. I just didn't have time until now. This card is a freakin monster! I thought HairlessThoctars card was probably too good, and then Fenix fixed the effect, and now you blow it out of the water. For 10 mana...bah...who am I kidding...more like 6-7 mana really, you can do so many crazy things that the comp rules literally just puked. Talk about homogenization. You just took the whole gene pool and mixed it with the OP stick while pouring in a dash of "lets make wizards cry" serum. I don't see a guild master so much as a truly insane gene splicer laughing maniaclly while birthing some of the most bizaare creatures (and interactions) the world of magic has ever seen, or maybe a huge all-devouring ooze that is absorbing the entire guild into some kind of collective consciousness. IF YOUR RANK IS MASTER BIOMANCER OR LOWER: When you return to the labs the day after presenting your creation for a new guild leader, you find the formulas are missing and the prototype has been flushed. There is an envelope at your workstation with your name on it. Opening it you read:
"Your work is being reviewed for treason. We accept that you were working under orders and in the interest of evolution and so are not being held responsible for your crimes at this time. Your plans and creation have been properly disposed of. Pursuing experimentation of this nature in the future will be met with harsh judgement."
It is stamped with the official seal of Prime Speaker Zegana. There is a lot of mumbling and dark looks from the other gene splicers throughout the day, but its not until later you hear that Simic Lab Master Breganae has been executed. Looking around, you notice that anyone above the rank of Master Biomancer is also missing.
After a couple of days, things sort of fall back into a regular rythmn, but you still do not have a new Lab Master yet. Some of the other gene splicers have picked up new projects, so you decide to forge ahead like nothing is amiss. A contract has come in. One of the guilds wants you to build the ultimate assassin, but with the raid on the lab, materials are in short supply. You will have to use the gene material of a Kithkin and a Goblin.
IF YOUR RANK IS BIOVISIONARY OR HIGHER:
You are in your dwelling attempting to sleep when the door to your home is smashed in. Convinced the Azorious have finally found you, you jump from bed, mana bending to your will as you prepare to visit hell on your would be intruders. The door to your room is kicked in and Simic Sentinels rush in with two Maulsharks tethered and whining. Standing down, you wait as another gentleman enters the room. You recognize him at once. Chancellor Reefin from the Simic Combine.
"I apologize for the rather brutish methods we have been reduced to, but you were attempting to create a new guild leader for the revolutionaries. Prime Speaker Zegana is not pleased with our guild resources being used in such as way, as I'm sure you can imagine. She has requested an audience with you, and I have come to make sure you accept."
Stepping aside, Chancellor Reefin lets an Azorious guildmage step forward and detain you. Then, a rush of words, a burst of mana, and you are standing in a small room with runes carved in a circle on the floor. The room is damp and musty smelling. The Maulsharks snarl down at you as Chancellor Reefin opens the heavy metal door in front of you and leads you down a dark hallway. Pushing open another door, you are led into a large round room lit sparsely with sputtering torches. Simic Growth Tanks litter the room, most of them containing a specimen of some kind, the low hum of power cables vibrates through the chamber. As you are led past the tanks, you recognize many of the experiments you thought had been flushed from your lab. Passing by a particularily large tank, you see a large table with various gene splicers sitting around it. All council members by the look. Sitting at the head of the table is Prime Speaker Zegana herself. Her gaze locks on yours, making you swallow a little harder. Reefin takes a seat at the table, leaving the Maulsharks just within biting range, rows of teeth clacking in their mouths, their breathing heavy. You can't help but notice the vaguely humanoid goop that is being fed to whatever it is imprisoned in the tank behind you.
"Your experiments for creating a new Guild Leader have been destroyed." Zeganas voice is soft, but with an edge of a threat to it. "We have been watching your lab for some time now. It is irony that Lab Master Breganae hoped to foster your burgeoning talents to overthrow me when it was those very talents that brought you to my attention. While Master Breganae has paid the price for your crimes, I would not waste your obvious talents. You have proven to be one of the most promising splicers we have seen in generations. Do not assume for a moment that this has not been nutured. You have been brought before us for one purpose. We have acquired some specimens of genetic material that are very different than the others you have been exposed too. Do not ask how or where. Simply understand that they are rare, powerful, and how you use them will decide if you are going to be promoted as the next Simic Lab Master of your lab, now that poor Breganae is gone, or if you will suffer the same fate as he."
Her words die off and you can tell the conversation is over. Reefin and the Maulsharks lead you to a room off the lab you were just in. It contains all the equipment of an advanced lab, plus enough food and water to last you for months. There is a cot up against the far wall and a hole in the corner of the room. You only vaguely notice, or hear the door lock behind you however. On the table before you are two vials. They are glowing. Time to get started.

NOTE: This is, unfortunately, the last round of this contest that I will be able to do for the forseeable future. Lots of RL stuff happening and when I sit down to do these, I get carried away with grandiose ideas. It's been loads of fun. Thank to everyone that played. I'll still be around the forums, but these contests just take up more time than I can easily spend right now.

Truth be told, I did write it out on my iPod. That does some very weird things to formatting. Anywho, onto the card.
I actually don't know if this round is supposed to be easy or hard. Kithkins can do pretty much anything, from Growth to Hosing Midrange to Card Advantage to Soldier Tribal and tapping. But in general, I see that the most prevalent two things about them are first strike and some sort of defense/hate against high cost cards.
That being said, here's my card.
Gobkin Stabber Creature - Kithkin Goblin Rogue
First Strike, Haste Whenever Gobkin Stabber would deal damage to a creature with converted mana cost 4 or higher, destroy that creature instead. If Gobkin Stabber is attacking and unblocked, you may remove it from combat and have it deal 1 damage to target creature.

In the event that we have been assigned a criteria through PM, should we note it in our post with our submitted design -- either in the popular "journal entry" format or as a simple "criteria: ___"? Or do you prefer that we submit only a design?

REJECTED.
Curses, I can't seem to hit the button with my new ideas! I wrestled for a while with this card. I left the Nerf clause in for the very reason that the card did prevent removal. Since that was a very powerful ability, I thought it prudent to balance it by hampering yourself in some way. You might be able to "counter" any removal, but your Griselbrand is now kinda lame...until you improve him.

Ah, challenges. Nissa, and Sarkhan. An interesting pair. The result certainly favours neither. Allow me to outline from whence each ability stems. 1) The first ability mixes Nissa's 'fetch a particular creature' with Mad's card advantage with a cost. Reasonably straight ahead I believe. Yes, it's very powerful, but the cost is similar to Spoils of the Vault , albeit without the lifeloss. 2) Using the Nissa pattern of a +2 and making use of creatures at your disposal, while using Mad's polymorph type ability. We're simply not so picky of the creature we grow. Experimentation is growth after all. 3) The ultimate is probably the purest combination, but also leans heavily on the use of the two previous abilities - by combining Nissa's 'fetch all the elves' ability and spreading it through the cost of the first two abilities, Sarkhan's 'dragons to the face' ability becomes very, very relevant, as long as the theme is hit.
The resultant card is of course, somewhere in the UBR range, but that, as they say, is where the chips fell.

So...power packed into a single tiny package mixed with power in numbers and death:
Honorable Death Creature - Kithkin Goblin Assassin
Honorable Death may attack as though it had Haste : Destroy target creature. That creature's controller may deal X damage to target creature you control where X is the targeted creature's power.
"You will die. This cannot be helped. However, in exchange for your life, you may ask for me to accomplish one task of equal value." - Honorable Death Assassin
First note: The name alludes to an Order which uses no names, it is NOT a legendary. "Who are you?" "I am an Honorable Death."
I understand how my last entry's flavor was mistaken. It was my own fault given my flavor text (The flavor was that the new Guildmaster improved all of his guildmembers, not killing them and replacing them. The token creature was flavorfully the same creature exiled.) Given that, I'll explain the flavor on this one. So the Kithkin: Destroy target creature. The Kithkin are great soldiers, very skilled flavorwise, especially given their size. So I drew inspiration from Intrepid Hero . Not a Kithkin, but very Kithkin-like. Then I went with Goblin: Mogg Assassin tempered by Kithkin self-control. Also Haste, because a lot of Goblins have Haste.
The Flavor text: This is where I tied in the goblin sacrifice history. I couldn't think of a way a creature of Kithkin AND Goblin desire would sac one of their own. Thus, the exchange. Honorable Death IS an assassin and will kill what it is assigned to kill. It desires honor in its life however, and demands that it make up for taking the unwilling soul. So its rules: 1) It will give every creature a chance to live...a fair fight. The assassin WILL accomplish his goal, even if he does so through his own life. 2) If the target is utterly overmatched, a payment from Honorable Death's own side will be made...it gets a strange satisfaction from this...
Finally, the casting cost: I felt this would be a creature torn by dual natures. While the card itself is R (fight-like mechanic) with a touch of black (Royal Assassin -like), it has a sense of honor held deep inside, which justifies the white. Kithkins are G/W and Goblins are B/R, this poor soul is resolute in action and character, but torn by the conflict internally.
I really wanted to add a Phage the Untouchable effect in the card, but I thought that would get me Rejected again. Really want to end on a positive note.
Well, its been fun. Thanks for all the inspiration, time and attention Dudibus, this was a great experience! Thanks for luring me into the community!

These investigations have me concerned. I fear that they may be liquadating our laboratory. After all our work. OUR PROGRESS. I must move on with my work. We need an assasin? The only materials available are these Kithkin and goblins... Never a shortage of goblins... Well what traits do these specimen possess? They are both small, industrious, stout. The only defining trait of these Kith are thier "mindbond." This could be useful... Small groups can maintain communication between themselves and perhaps I can weaponize it? If they were capable of forcing this bond onto others? Yes....
Mindkin Goblin Creature - Kithkin Goblin Assasin ~ can be blocked by tapped creatures and only tapped creatures. Whenever ~ becomes blocked, remove it from combat and destroy up to one creature blocking it. It blends in with all the others coming and going. When confronted it becomes its victims worst nightmare and slips away as they battle to the death with the phantasm. 3/1

My wayward husband has disappeared. He was complaining of a sore jaw a few days ago, and when he heard about Master Breganae's demise, he vanished before my eyes.
I have forgiven him for killing me and then reviving me as a slug because I believe both of those things were bound to happen eventually without his assistance, and I know he has a larger role to play in the grand scheme of things. What that role is, I cannot say at the moment, but as I was the one who initially pushed him to become more ambitious, I find it easy to forgive him. Wherever he is.
I have taken over his lab until his return, and have managed to restore myself to my former glory. In fact, I believe I have improved myself to some degree. I am not actually qualified to splice genes or anything, seeing as how I never made it past Lab Cleaner, but I have followed Ulcaster's notes, and it seems like I'm a natural. Well, one might say there isn't actually anything natural about me anymore, but what do they know? Huh?!?! Nothing, that's what.
It seems that in my absence the entire Simic operation has gone awry. Not that I had anything to do with keeping it together, but I'm finding that I rather enjoy the chaos. Yes, chaos is good. It brings about change. Keeps things interesting. I notice a new assignment on Ulcaster's desk. I suppose it is up to me to fill, despite my lack of experience. I will deliver it under his name, though, so as not to draw attention to myself.
Goldmeadow Antagonist Creature- Kithkin Goblin Assassin Haste, vigilance When ~ enters the battlefield, choose a color. ~ has protection from the chosen color. Your assingment is to splice together the genetic material of Sorin Markov and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage to create a new planeswalker that is both Sorin and and Tamiyo, and neither.
wow.. this is really rough luckily, each of the 3 have a +, a -, and an ultimate; comprehensive designs: Sorin Markov = +, life manipulation; -, life manipulation; ult, player manipulation Sorin, Lord of Innistrad = +, token/life gain; -, emblem, power manipulation; ult, permanent manipulation Tamiyo, the Moon Sage = +, permanent manipulation; -, card draw manipulation; ult, hand/spell manipulation
common theme = manipulation (which goes so nicely in blue/black, and goes well in Dimir, and in Simic (in the form of evolutionary manipulation and biological manipulation))
Planeswalkers are amazing things -- they aren't common; and the Spark isn't necessarily genetic (Ajani's brother wasn't a planeswalker; Mishra wasn't a planeswalker) would just combining their DNA make a planeswalker? .. i don't think so i think there's more necessary to force a spark...
Salima, of the Forced Spark Planeswalker - Salima [+1] Target opponent exiles the top three cards of his or her library. You may cast up to one non-land card among those cards this turn. [-2] Choose any number of permanents and/or players with counters on them, then remove up to one counter from each. Then proliferate. [-6] You get an emblem with "You have no maximum handsize and creatures you control get +1/+0 for each card in your hand." {2}
the -2 was my first thought -- reverse-proliferate; feels very blue/black to me (odd manipulations and messing with life engeries, etc); but also with proliferate, which is an ability the Simic would love --- you need 2 to activate the ability, but will ultimately only cost one (since you can add a loyalty as part of the proliferate effect) -- she can be used as a sorcery for just the -2 if that's where you are in the game... cmc 3 and low starting loyalty = she's a forced planeswalker; the spark isn't natural in her; she's unstable +1 = blue/black in that it's top-decking and resource stealing; sorin/tamiyo in that it's deck and resource manipulation; Simic in that it strikes a little blindly for development//growth (don't know if you'll hit something you can cast, but if you do, you get some field advantage... don't know if this i sreally all that Simic-y... but... kinda...?) NOTE = just to make sure it's clear; you don't get to cast of the 3 exiled cards for free; you have to be able to pay for it; also, no lands -6 = to be a reasonably hard ultimate; want it to be powerful, so isn't immediately in reach the emblem = an amalgam of Sorin's emblem and Tamiyo's emblem -- but also a simic-esque ability in wanting card advantage and creature strength advantage
Forced Spark // Unstable = = = all of her abilities are conditional; the +1 could end up being nothing more than minor milling... the -2 could end up being useuless if there aren't permanents with counters out... the emblem can be useless if you have no cards in hand ---- each ability is dependant on the game state = an attempt to convey an unnatural Planeswalker; she isn't the developed master of mana that most planeswalker are; she's a lab expirment that may end up winning the day or may end up being useless on that same note: the lack of apparent synergy between the three abilities is intentional -- again, she's a forced planeswalker, not a developed natural masta of mana; accordingly, her abilities aren't focused together with a common goal -- it's meant to be flavorful

The wretched clock on the wretched wall sang its wretched song. Days bled into weeks bled into months bled into eternity. How long had passed since this project began? Who could say. To create a Planeswalker from scratch. The devil's work. It wasn't enough to merely splice the genetic material together or constructing a clone; it needed something else. It wasn't genetic. The hundreds of thousands of failures told the tale. Ruined, ravaged test subjects broken down into materials to build and feed the new ones. Research must be done. A discovery; the truth. Planeswalkers were not chosen by genetics. Or God. Or fate. Or circumstance. A source told the tale.
They were not chosen at all. They just happened.
No rhyme or reason. Anyone could become one. In theory. But the chances? Miniscule. Astronomical. The least likely of many unlikely things. A trial by fire could cast them out. Standing at death's dore would awaken that which slept within. But without the something? Death. Like so many others. And so the work continued. This man. This construct of one and another . The test. The kiss of death administered. The thing writhed and twitched and screamed a voiceless scream. And then nothing. Broken. Ruined. Dead.
Onto the next one. And the next. And the next. How many had it been? Hundreds of thousands. Every waking moment was dedicated to killing these empty shells. Cracking them open, hoping to find one not empty. A foolish task for a foolish man who had dared to spit upon their benefactor . Did the brine witch expect results? Or to slowly waste life away in repentance? Perhaps both? Still it went on and on. Another dead. Another body to recycle.
And then it happened. The death-kiss. The pain. The scream. And then something more than nothing. Nothing more than something. The body burst into naught. Pulled through a veil that could not be perceived. Thrown across the void of starless sky and tideless sea. To worlds untold.
Venat, Void of Fire Planeswalker-Venat +2: Draw two cards, then exile two cards. -2: Exile target permanent or card in a graveyard, then choose another card exiled by Venat. Shadow of the Crag | Creature - Kithkin Goblin : Shadow of the Crag becomes a 2/2 Kithkin Goblin Spirit. : If Shadow of the Crag is a Spirit, it becomes a 4/4 Kithkin Goblin Spirit Assasin. : If Shadow of the Crag is an Asassin, it becomes an 8/8 Kithkin Goblin Spirit Assasin Avatar with hexproof and firststrike. "I've managed to infuse a unique kithkin in the lab with goblin in hopes of making it a bit more crafty." ~ Log entry 1 1/1
Well, as nice as it is, it is far from original. I mean, we all know how good this card is. Just having a hard time liking it much since its been printed (mostly) before. REJECTED.
Gobkin Stabber Creature - Kithkin Goblin Rogue First Strike, Haste Whenever Gobkin Stabber would deal damage to a creature with converted mana cost 4 or higher, destroy that creature instead. If Gobkin Stabber is attacking and unblocked, you may remove it from combat and have it deal 1 damage to target creature. 1/1
This round was a bit of a trick. Back in the day there was only 1 Kithkin and I just loved that card. I was definitely looking for something in the cards this round that had something to do them getting around things that were bigger than they were, which you have captured marvelously. Of course the other criteria was assassin, which you have also captured very well. Mechanically I can't see any problems here. They play well together and they are strong without being overpowered. His low power and toughness helps keep him in check. I was happy to take the class as assassin or Rogue. Most definitely PROMOTED.
Guess I should have gave more description of my leader explaining that he took his position by force and was planning to take Simic into a new direction. Moggkin Viledagger Creature - Kithkin Goblin Assassin , : Target creature with power 2 or less gains deathtouch until end of turn. , : Target creature with power 2 or less gains first strike until end of turn. : Target player dealt combat damage this turn loses the game. 1/1
This card is one of those that I would have to see sleeved up to judge how powerful it is. I mean, that last ability sure sounds strong, but on such a small creature it is likely easy to handle. The only thing I am leery about is the not having to tap to use this ability. I think it would have made it a better card because it brings more skill into the game and creates tension instead of just pissing them off when, a game that went to the ninth-ish mana was just suddenly over. The first two abilities are interesting, and the tapping/untapping gives me the flavor of an assassin preparing himself for the kill. If only that last ability required a tap. Gah I'm torn on this one. As much as it pains me to do this, I'm going to have to reject it. Since this is the last round I don't want to go soft on anyone just BECAUSE its the last round, or is that too anal? Gah! Sorry Simon...rejected. But I feel bad.

Your design abilities can't be questioned. I do not think I can knock anything about this card. You have nailed yet another criteria, one that I felt would be very difficult. This card feels like both of the walkers you were assigned without just being a copy of their abilities. I like the bold move of the abilities deciding the color instead of just using green because. I'm not sure that first ability counts as card advantage when you are putting it on top of your library. I like that the first ability helps feed the second so you don't get caught up in the "why would I use the first ability over the second" syndrome. The second ability is powerful, but far from broken and it promotes deck building, which I always like to see in cards, while still making you happy to play it in any deck that could. That last ability is a doozy, but at that cost it seems reasonable, even if it is unlikely they will survive, but hey, thats the case with almost all ultimates anyways.
So...power packed into a single tiny package mixed with power in numbers and death: Honorable Death Creature - Kithkin Goblin Assassin Honorable Death may attack as though it had Haste : Destroy target creature. That creature's controller may deal X damage to target creature you control where X is the targeted creature's power. "You will die. This cannot be helped. However, in exchange for your life, you may ask for me to accomplish one task of equal value." - Honorable Death Assassin 2/2 Spoiler:Show
First note: The name alludes to an Order which uses no names, it is NOT a legendary. "Who are you?" "I am an Honorable Death." I understand how my last entry's flavor was mistaken. Note: I love this card's interaction with Stuffy Doll and Boros Reckoner .
Well, its been fun. Thanks for all the inspiration, time and attention Dudibus, this was a great experience! Thanks for luring me into the community!
I love flavor and this card is steeped in it. Your reasoning is sound and I feel you captured what you explained even without having to explain it, if you see what I mean (I had to read that sentence a couple of times to make sure it made sense). The effect is well balanced with the cost and I like that the opponent isn't necesarily going to always pick Honorable Death as the target of its retribution. It captures the Kithkins ability to handle or get around things that are bigger than itself with the same rather demented morality I feel a partly goblin/kithkin could be suffering from. I find the "may attack as if it had haste" clause to be a little clunky and I would have just upped the cost by 1 and kept it with plain ol' haste, but I can see the design behind the card. PROMOTED.
Nooooo!!!!! This is such an awesome contest. I will mourn its end. I salute you for your excellent handling and wonderful criteria within this contest. And on to the experiment. JournalSpoiler:Show
These investigations have me concerned.
It has no white in the cost, which a gene splice of a Kithkin would likely have but that can be designed around reasonably. I would even say that second ability, which I find to be very unique and quite flavorful, could be white. The feel of an assassin would be in the "when this becomes blocked", but the ability comes across more like a very accomplished warrior instead of a creature that can strike from the shadows. You do a good job of explaining it with the flavor text and referencing the thoughtweft is just wonderful. While I'm not a big fan of the card, you've done an excellent job of designing what I asked for, with extras kicked in. PROMOTED.
Ahhh! Last round?! I must say, this has been such a fun contest, so thank you Dudibus! I know you put in a ton of time and energy into it, and it really turned out to be a great contest that we all enjoyed. Thanks! Zuna's JournalShow
Goldmeadow AntagonistCreature- Kithkin Goblin Assassin Haste, vigilance When ~ enters the battlefield, choose a color. ~ has protection from the chosen color. When ~ dies, it deals damage equal to its power to each creature of the chosen color. I fight for glory, and to justify my existence. Nothing else matters. 1/1 (work in progress)
I really like the ability. The protections gives the flavor of the unstoppable assassin that can get to you if you like it or not (who likes it when assassins get to you?). The second ability is quite nice as well, but the power is so low, there is a large chance that it will do very little. I think you could have made it at least a 2/1 safely, but that is highly arguable. Plus I'm going to miss Zuna. That's quite a little lady there...if Ulcaster ever shows up again I hope he has a ring with him. Not many women would stick with a man that killed them, brought them back as a slug and then took off. Heck, shes even covering his work for him. That gal is one in a million. PROMOTED.
Elise, Scorching Silhouette Planeswalker – Elise {+1}: Until the beginning of your next upkeep, creatures entering the battlefield deal damage to their controller equal to their power. {-2}: Gain control of target creature until end of turn. Untap it. It gains wither and haste until end of turn. {-7}: Separate all permanents target player controls into two piles. That player sacrifices all permanents in the pile of his or her choice and takes damage equal to three times the number of cards in the other. [4] I dare say, combining the DNA of these two has led to a very cunning and volatile creature. My vote is that we never let her out of her tank and that her mothers are never made aware of her existence.
TECHNICALLY I meant for you to specifically splice the actual versions of the planeswalkers I had set for you, in this case Chandra, the Firebrand and the original Liliana Vess , but I can definitely see why that could be easily missed. I even thought about it while I was writing up the assignments and then forgot to clarify. As for the card, I was really hoping to stump those that were up for promotion this time around, but you guys are impossible to stump. Seriously. I've tried everything. Easy cards, odd combinations, hard cards, arguably impossible ones, and each time people rise to the challenge. This walker feels like a mix of your planeswalkers. I can picture her, dangerous and beautiful, tempermental and aching, stilleto heels, fish nets and an attitude that leaves a string of broken, smiling Dudibus's in her wake, ...er...you have captured effects that feel both red and black at that cost you have laid out. The first ability creates a fun tension and rewards skill. The second ability is solidly red but taps into the sub-mechanic black has of controlling creatures. And that ultimate also rewards skill while being so very brutal at the same time. I really want to say there is something wrong with this card so it will make my final decision easier, but alas I just have a hard choice to make.
Kithlin Tribecaller Creature - Kithin Goblin Whenever ~ attacks, reveal the top card of your library. If it shares a creature type with ~, put it onto the battlefield tapped and attacking and repeat the process. Combine the unity and recklessness of the two genes and we have the perfect blend of army fodder. 2/2
While I love this card and just stole it for one of my sets (that makes at least 2 cards I have blatantly stolen from you instead of just glowering in jealousy. This one in particular perfectly fills a hole in my set that I have been agonizing about for a week) and it really captures the feel of both a goblin and a kithkin remarkably well, it doesn't seem to be an assassin per se. Assassins normally, but not always, work alone. They definitely kill creatures, which quite frankly this guys ability will most likely result in, but it seems more like a warrior or a soldier than an Assassin. He's like the blunt instrument you send in when the finese failed. Rejected.
Your assingment is to splice together the genetic material of Sorin Markov and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage to create a new planeswalker that is both Sorin and and Tamiyo, and neither.
wow.. this is really rough luckily, each of the 3 have a +, a -, and an ultimate; comprehensive designs: Sorin Markov = +, life manipulation; -, life manipulation; ult, player manipulation Sorin, Lord of Innistrad = +, token/life gain; -, emblem, power manipulation; ult, permanent manipulation Tamiyo, the Moon Sage = +, permanent manipulation; -, card draw manipulation; ult, hand/spell manipulation common theme = manipulation (which goes so nicely in blue/black, and goes well in Dimir, and in Simic (in the form of evolutionary manipulation and biological manipulation)) Planeswalkers are amazing things -- they aren't common; and the Spark isn't necessarily genetic (Ajani's brother wasn't a planeswalker; Mishra wasn't a planeswalker) would just combining their DNA make a planeswalker? .. i don't think so i think there's more necessary to force a spark...
Salima, of the Forced Spark Planeswalker - Salima [+1] Target opponent exiles the top three cards of his or her library. You may cast up to one non-land card among those cards this turn. [-2] Choose any number of permanents and/or players with counters on them, then remove up to one counter from each. Then proliferate. [-6] You get an emblem with "You have no maximum handsize and creatures you control get +1/+0 for each card in your hand." {2}
the -2 was my first thought -- reverse-proliferate; feels very blue/black to me (odd manipulations and messing with life engeries, etc); but also with proliferate, which is an ability the Simic would love --- you need 2 to activate the ability, but will ultimately only cost one (since you can add a loyalty as part of the proliferate effect) -- she can be used as a sorcery for just the -2 if that's where you are in the game... cmc 3 and low starting loyalty = she's a forced planeswalker; the spark isn't natural in her; she's unstable +1 = blue/black in that it's top-decking and resource stealing; sorin/tamiyo in that it's deck and resource manipulation; Simic in that it strikes a little blindly for development//growth (don't know if you'll hit something you can cast, but if you do, you get some field advantage... don't know if this i sreally all that Simic-y... but... kinda...?) NOTE = just to make sure it's clear; you don't get to cast of the 3 exiled cards for free; you have to be able to pay for it; also, no lands -6 = to be a reasonably hard ultimate; want it to be powerful, so isn't immediately in reach the emblem = an amalgam of Sorin's emblem and Tamiyo's emblem -- but also a simic-esque ability in wanting card advantage and creature strength advantage Forced Spark // Unstable = = = all of her abilities are conditional; the +1 could end up being nothing more than minor milling... the -2 could end up being useuless if there aren't permanents with counters out... the emblem can be useless if you have no cards in hand ---- each ability is dependant on the game state = an attempt to convey an unnatural Planeswalker; she isn't the developed master of mana that most planeswalker are; she's a lab expirment that may end up winning the day or may end up being useless on that same note: the lack of apparent synergy between the three abilities is intentional -- again, she's a forced planeswalker, not a developed natural masta of mana; accordingly, her abilities aren't focused together with a common goal -- it's meant to be flavorful

It's always interesting to me to read designers thought processes behind cards that are obviously difficult to develop. I knew this round would be a hard one. I agree that in truth you couldn't grow a planeswalker. But hey, it made for an interesting, and difficult round (at least for me). I was really trying to stump the highly ranked players this time around and despite my best efforts, I feel I have failed. Your card is interesting and well designed. Your thought process on the cards can't really be argued. I wouldn't really say that the first ability was minor milling. Its a solid ability that I think most people would be happy to trigger. The second ability could be useless, but likely she would be in a deck that would take good advantage of the ability. The emblem is wonderful. It really feeds into the first ability from a flavor perspective for me...the dimir milling away, getting secrets, agendas, manipulating, until they are ready to pounce. I hope the other entries are worse so I don't have to agonize over who to promote.
Gigas, Savage Valor - Planeswalker - Gigas You may activate ~'s abilities anytime you could cast an instant during your turn.(Other conditions still apply.) [+2]: ~ becomes an indestructible 5/4 Beast Soldier that's still a planeswalker and you may have it fight target creature. If a creature is destroyed this way, creatures you control gets +2/+2 until end of turn. [+2]: ~ becomes a 4/5 Human Druid with Hexproof that's still a planeswalker. Then, put a 3/3 Green Beast creature tokens with Hexproof onto the battlefield. [-13]: Exile all lands target player controls. Then, put a 5/5 Green White Wurm creature token with trample onto the battlefield for each land exiled this way. [4]
This guy is definitely a beast of a walker. An indestructible 5/4 with fight will many times just be "destroy target creature", but in a very green way, while the boost to your guys is very white. While the color matching is nice, that + ability is so strong...not only are you likely killing a key creature on your opponents side, you can still attack with it as well and its even bigger! The next + ability is strong as well, but I don't think it would ever get activated over the first one, unless you really needed that 3/3 beast. The last ability, while being very hard to get too, is really a "You Win" since they have no lands and you have a slew of 5/5 wurms. Of course, if this guys ever gets to that much loyalty, its likely game over anyways after losing all your creatures and being swarmed by beasts and indestructible planeswalkers.
Jillian, the Voice of Knowledge Planeswalker - Jillian Whenever you draw a card, put a loyalty counter on ~. [-4] Target creature gains Flying until the end of turn and has "until the end of turn, whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, draw that many cards" [-10] You get an emblem with "Gain life equal to the number of cards in your hand, then put that many 2/2 Cat creatures tokens onto the battlefield" Starting Loyalty {3}
Again I can see why you have been a top contender for Lab Master this whole time. I really wanted to make you guys cry with the difficulty of this assignment and I just can't seem to win. All of the abilities fit really well together and I like the originality of the design with the + loyalty boost and -4 actually being, hopefully and big +. The wording on the emblem is a little confusing to me...is there some text missing, like "At the beginning of your upkeep?" That ability needs some more words I think since the effect as written doesn't need an emblem. I'm sensing an edit that was not totally editted. Overall, a well designed, solid entry that I feel seems like a marriage of the two walkers. You tapped into the card drawing of Jace while tying it directly to the "pride" mentality of Ajani.

lol love the write up. I agree that a planeswalker can't be spliced into existence, but hey I wanted to make a difficult round so there it is. As I have mentioned above a few times you gene splicers have really risen to the challenge. I wanted to stump you. I have not stumped you. The casting cost is good, the first ability is a wonderful combination of your two subjects. The second is a very interesting blink effect with lots of choice built in, a little more venser than tibalt, but balanced and fair, and the ultimate feels like a solid combination of the two while that still feeling original, although I think it should be worded "the number of cards in exile"? Does that first ability require "from your hand?" Probably not. I'm not sure if you mean all cards in exile or just ones exiled by Venat. Man, this is going to be a tough decision.

If I am not mistaken, indestructible doesn't mean the creature doesn't take damage, every damage it takes from fighting still removes loyalty counters. So, I was thinking that wouldn't make the first ability too strong. Oh well, nvm. Thx for the contest.

Venat, Void of Fire Planeswalker-Venat +2: Draw two cards, then exile two cards. -2: Exile target permanent or card in a graveyard, then choose another card exiled by Venat. Its owner may cast it without paying its mana cost. -8: Venat deals damage equal to two times the number of exiled cards divided as you choose among any number of creatures and players. [3]
...Oh crap. How am I supposed to prove to Zeganna I did it?
Tesla Electrician creature wizard Artifacts cost less to activate. This cannot reduce the cost below . "~a swing in the motion transfers energy without an absolute displacement." 1/2

If I am not mistaken, indestructible doesn't mean the creature doesn't take damage, every damage it takes from fighting still removes loyalty counters. So, I was thinking that wouldn't make the first ability too strong. Oh well, nvm. Thx for the contest.
Hmm...thats does change things. Its stuff like that that makes me feel unfit to properly judge cards.

Wow...um...well, where do I start? I'd like to thank the Academy ; if it weren't for that class on transdimentional biology, I don't really think I'd be quite where I am today. Also I'd like to thank my other labmates ; you guys gave a good showing and really pushed me to be my best these last several weeks. Most of all though, Id like to thank Dudibus for taking on the task of making this contest as amazing as it was. You deserve a vacation. If the title of Simic Lab Master came with a sizable monetary award as well, I'd buy you tickets to Disney World.

You leapfrogged DZ in the final round. I mean, you skipped Architect/Prophet whatever and went straight to Lab Master. Oh man he is ticked.
I mean congratulation dude, all your cards were pretty sweet and all, but I just hope DZ doesn't do anything...
crazy.
Dud, this was an awesome contest.

I really want to stress what a hard time I had trying to pick the winner. I was torturing my wife with the different entries and the reasonings behind them. After she begged me to stop I turned to my seven year old daughter and she tried really hard to know what I was talking about but she doesn't play Magic yet, so I tried to explain it in Pokemon terms and all we ended up doing was splicing Pikachu with Reshiram, which was pretty cool.
I then very seriously considered making three Simic Lab Masters, and considering the style of the promotions that didn't see that crazy, but it just didn't feel right for this last round.
So I stared at what I considered to be the top three walker splices for far longer than I care to admit and had to finally admit which one I liked the best. And then I went out for about six hours and came back with a different decision, and back and forth and back and forth.
The only way I was able to console myself was to know that I was still handing out promotions, but then that still felt like I was snubbing Detektazoline...I even made up another rank to give to him, but I just didn't like the sound of Visionary Arch Bioprophet (plus sounding cooler than Simic Lab Master), since it sounded tacked on, so in the end, I caved and just did what I did.
Whew. For better or worse, it is done.

if Dudibus doesn't mind passing the torch.... would our new Lab Master like to direct new expiriments?
As much as I wish I could, I freely admit that I don't have the chops to oversee a contest of this magnitude. I don't think I'd be able to deliver the quality we had here in this thread.

I doubt many could. It takes a significant amount of patience, restraint, and personal sacrifice. Especially since you won't be posting any designs yourself.
