so here is a problem with the new rules: there is no skill bonus to hit roles for magic. example; if you wield a weapon you get your ability bonus, ie; strength and you also get a weapon skill bonus. but if you cast a spell, you only get your ability bonus- intellingence. in my party, our paladin attacks with his sword and gets to add +3 for strength and +3 for weapon skill and he adds +6 to every attack role. our warlock only gets to add his +3 for intelligence to his attack roles and therefore makes it very unbalanced for the warlock. with these rules, characters wielding weapons always have advantage over characters wielding magic. does anyone have any suggestions that i can apply to my game to offset this?

Congratulations! You've noticed why AC is generally 2-3 points higher than the other defenses, and it only took nearly 5 years and several playtests into the next edition for you to notice this extremely well-publicized feature of the "new" rules! Clearly, you're nearly as observant about the rules and their consequences as you are about which forum you're posting in!

Maybe I'm reading that wrong but that seemed a bit harsh. Shouldn't we feel safe to ask stupid questions without being attacked?

Maybe, but that was neither a M:TG question nor a rules question. At least ask stupid questions in the right section of the right board. :P

Fair enough. Ridicule for poor placement and maybe for poor speling but can't we forgive questions we deem foolish?
Unless those B@$&%!ds play Yu Gi Oh!

Skrew yu! That's a bad question and we don't want your kind here!
See how bad you feel now? No one should have to feel that kind of pain

If they're about Magic, usually yes. But this one was not only in the wrong section (and not a rules question even if it was posted in the right section), but abnormally clueless on multiple other levels. To name just one, referring to 4E as the "new" D&D rules is roughly comparable to someone referring to Shadowmoor as the "new" Magic set. Relatedly, if you're in the RPG hobby, EDIT: being on WotC's own site and yet not being aware that D&D Next playtesting is going on is like failing to notice an atomic bomb going off right outside your window.
EDIT: Added the purple bit, because that was an unreasonably strong statement previously.

Ok, just so long as anyone who might be exploring this forum for the first time understands that typically, misunderstandings are not met with ridicule but with understanding. And that we all hope to encourage growth rather than belittle ignorance.
And just for fun, I'd like to also point out that we all play games like Magic The Gathering and are ridiculed by most of the rest of the world for just that fact.
