How does Rain of Gore interact with creatures with lifelink ? The old version of " lifelink " before it was keyworded should work, because it's a separate ability that triggers and uses the stack. But the new version is melded in as part of the damage itself, not exactly an "ability" causing life gain so will it still work? GTC spoiler Spoiler:

if a 6/6 lifelinker attacks unblocked both players will lose 6 life at the same timeactually, now that I think of it, Lifelink is a static ability, but is it the cause of the lifegain or the creature? so wait for confirmation from someone else on this one /edit: after some more reading I'll retract my initial answer Rain of Gore will apply if a lifelink creature deals non-combat damage such as Brion Stoutarm 's Fling, because that is an ability it will not apply for combat damage, since that is not an ability

when something says "a spell or ability" it's typically referring to an object on the stack (which has a controller)
lifelink no longer triggers so it won't qualify on its own now it just adds an additional result to the damage dealt

This is true, but static abilities have effects without using the stack. In the CR glossary, lifelink's entry says "A keyword ability that causes a player to gain life" which matches verbatim with Rain of Gore's replacement event. However, in the actual rules entry for both lifelink and for effects of damage, it's worded as if it's the damage that causes the life gain.
I'm leaning towards "no." Rain of Gore would not punish lifelink. The source of the life gain is the rules, not the lifelink ability.

(empahsis mine)
The source of the life gain is the rules, not the lifelink ability.
Your conclusion is contradicted by your own quote of the glossary, but let's look at the actual definition of lifelink.
119.3f Damage dealt by a source with lifelink causes that source’s controller to gain that much life, in addition to the damage’s other results. (empahsis mine)
Damage is not a spell or ability. Rain of Gore doesn't affect lifelink life gain.

Rain of Gore: «If a spell or ability would cause its controller to gain life, that player loses that much life instead.»
Only abilities on the Stack have controller. Nobody controls Lifelink.
«Dystocracy : A system of government in which corrupt leadership colludes with dishonest bankers and greedy elites in order to ensure that productive members of society –people who actually do useful work- bear the greatest share of taxes while gaining the least benefit possible.»
Sounds familiar?

We've already covered that lifelink doesn't cause life gain, so saying lifelink doesn't have a controller is not relevant. But it's also true that damage doesn't have a controller, so your point stands.
Damage is not a spell or ability. Damage doesn't have a controller. Rain of Gore doesn't affect lifelink life gain.

Just to confirm: no, Rain of Gore will not trigger. The Rain only applies when a spell or ability causes its controller to gain life, and in this case, you're gaining life because of combat damage being done, which is neither a spell or ability. So the Rain of Gore does nothing against lifelinked combat damage.
EDIT: used the wrong word

Under no circumstances does Rain of Gore ever "trigger".
