Hello, I am a returning player from the ice age era. I want to goto a friday night magic game this week but I need to know what sets are allowed? Can I use ice age, fifth edition, oasis? If not can you list me all the decks please? Thank you!

no, those are way too old currently in Standard are Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored, Magic2013 and Return to Ravnica www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Resources.aspx...

You can find the descriptions of the various formats here. Standard includes the two most recent blocks, which means it currently consists of Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored, Magic 2013, and Return to Ravnica. If a card was printed in any of those sets, then you can use any version of that card. For example, Giant Growth  is legal in standard because it was printed in Return to Ravnica, so you can use a 5th edition copy of giant growth. Abbey Gargoyles  , on the other hand, has not been printed in any of the sets in standard, so you cannot use a 5th edition copy of it in standard.

Any eddition of standard legal card can be used. So your Ice Age Giant Growth is legal.

im new. planning to join fridaynight s when i now more. sould i go for 2013 core / to be sure my cards will be usefull next 5 years or so?

Ravnica already is old. Return to Ravnica and Magic 2013 will rotate from Standard in September 2014
