A voice? Where is it coming from? THE HALF-MAN.

I blink repeatedly as I finally notice the kithkin in front of me, looking at me with suspicious eyes. Big, round, creepy, suspicious eyes. Almost forgotten about that one.

"Half-man. You don't trust me? I have nothing to hide. The barrier is a precaution. One can never be too careful."

Resting up from whatever happened in the temple, the group begins to open up slightly. More words are being spoken between you and you begin to bond in a way that you only can when your life is in danger. It's a strange bond, but a very powerful one.
Still, some decide to keep their distance, and still plan for the worse. They aren't against the group, but they just aren't as trusting as some others. They are still willing to help out, but they are also looking out for themselves.

While everyone is catching their breath and enjoying what peace they can, [ConfusedAsUsual] throws some dust into the wind. He covers his eyes and stares longingly into the air, before shrugging and resting again. [Mown] similarly distances himself investigating the bushes, the trees, the briarpatches. You swear you see him picking up some grass and eating it. Whatever his reasoning, he returns to the main camp satisfied with his results.

Meanwhile, most everyone resting procures some sort of charm, or amulet or other means of protection. For example:
[GeorgW] pulls out a small locket and whispers soothing ly to it.
[SilentTwin] shuffles through his pack for a tiny fragment of stone, before sliding it into his pocket. All this within his cloud of reminiscence.
[FiveMinuteCatNap] calmly alters and adjusts his robes.
[TPmanW] pulls out a fanciful charm full of the feet of his luckiest rabbits. Then is quickly covered in [magicpablo666]'s blood thanks to a giant sneeze. They laugh it off.
[Chintastica] dons a pair of fantastical gauntlets. Bright as the sun, light as a feather, sturdy as iron.

The group begins to ready themselve for the journey ahead. [theatog] quickly blesses the jungle in hopes of speedy travel

No one knows how long the sun will last, if it will last at all deep within the jungle.
---
Your trek through the jungle was not as painful as it originally appeared. Whatever charm whomever has working, worked.

The tree seemed to brush aside easily despite their size, and long distance seemed to pass quickly. The sun even poked through in some areas, sending a golden ray of light to the jungle soil.

It is eeriely quiet in the jungle, unlike how Zendikar was before your journey into the temple. Despite your long journey the group has come across three, maybe four, birds. Nothing else. No people. No animals. No eldrazi (thankfully). Either a charm is working enormously well, or something is terribly wrong.

Unsure as to how long you spent in the jungle, you find yourselves in a large clearing. The clearing isn't as much a clearing as it is undergrowth, but what unnerves you is the fallen trees.
Within the clearing there are numerous fallen trees, but not a single stump. Also, the ground here seems darker than in other places, despite getting more sun?

In the distance, you can see the peak of a mountain rising above the canopy. You can only glimpse the top two inches (relative), but you see what appears to be another temple built into the side of the mountain.

Astonished, some of you poke around the clearing, others gawk at the temple they can barely see. Others still silently wait, ever cautious as to their surroundings.

The group paused for a moment too long, and now there is a choice it is clear.
Investigate the clearing, or go to the temple?
Whicever you choose you surely have few hours of daylight left, and who knows what happens to Zendikar at night?

"Something happened here," Kal Bed think to himself. "Something sinister. Something recent." Kal Bed slips his hedron fragment over his head, almost as a afterthought, as he kneels down and touches the ground gently with his right hand, missing a finger. "Speak, spirits, and show yourselves," he chants silently, over and over.

A cool breeze wafts through the clearing, and far away, cawing can be heard, as of a thousand birds, but as they approach, the numbers dwindle and only one remains as it touches down on Kal Bed right arm, nibbling the stump of his missing little finger. "Greetings, old friend," Kal Bed says to the black bird with bright blue eyes as he strokes its glistening feathers. "What happened here? Are we in danger?" The bird blinks once, twice, as if responding to the question as takes off, slowly circling the clearing. "Fly safe, old friend... and bring answers."

This was dragging on too long. Indecision would leave them somewhere, either here or halfway to the temple. Both of which he wasn't thrilled about. But he was done with this debate. He'd spoken his mind and now it was time to cast his magic. He couldn't use his mana on personal improvements, no. Too risky to do that now, too many variables, uncertainties. He would do what he did best, utilize blood. But what? What exactly? Wait, yes, that could work. Something that would bolster the group while also benefitting him.

Put a +1/+1 counters on each creature target opponent doesn't control. For each creature, that opponent loses 1 life.

Although in this case, the thing he'd be draining life from happened to be some innocent trees a few steps back on the path they'd taken to reach the clearing.

Guys, the clearing itself is not dangerous my survey tells me. But the temple is definitely unknown. Think Mown can probably confirm what i find.

As the others bicker about whether to leave for the temple or stay and investigate, Kal Bed waits for the return of his spirit animal, collecting kindle for a fire. "We're not reaching that temple before nightfall anyway, people, so we might as well get comfortable here. If this place is as safe as you say, of course."

He slowly but surely builds a small fire and sits down to dry out and get warm. "We could send out a scouting party, though. Any volunteers?"

"Trust you? You are all strangers, I see no reason to trust any of you, nor do I see reason to be cautious. Not at the moment..."
He leans against the branch for a few seconds, swaying back and forth.
"Wood. Stone. Flesh... What do you seek behind those walls? What do you expect to find? When the past is so unclear, how can the future be so bright?

Is it I who know too little...
...Or you who know too much?"

His eyes shift towards the four-fingered.
"Safety is a fragile word. Broken as quickly as the twig we wander upon. Carried away as easily as the the wind steals our scent. Fading as reliably as the light turns to dark.
The earth is wounded, and we stand in its scars. While injuries are best left to rest, the temptation to scratch it is a great one. I can only hope the blankets of darkness will cover us.
While my curiosity is still at its peak, my strength is not. I can search for answers, but provide no guarantee of their return. No, instead, I will query the dreams for that which I cannot find while awake."

Whatever the kithkin did back there, he didn't react too pleasantly to it.

"Folks! Perhaps I should have explained. I cast a temporal analysis spell earlier. The moment we were all brought together. In the room with the table. I learned that we are no longer in our own timeline. And the source of the temporal interference can be traced directly back to this temple! Whatever brought us here is within the bowels of this temple. And we need to find it. To reverse all of this."

I continue to persuade the group to enter the temple.

Kal Bed did have a point. They can't possibly reach the temple before nightfall anyway. He did not feel entirely comfortable with the clearing, there appears to be little choice left. Meanwhile, there was much on-going argument/discussion about the safety of the clearing and such. One matter he found funny and suspicion was how persistant the loony wizard was in reaching the temple and how the kithin was hinting that the wizard was up to something.

Hmm, something's afoot.

Then, Kal Bed had suggested a scouting party.

Jariis called out, "I volunteer to be part of the scouting party."

OOC- Wow, we are really good at consensus building. Regular parlimentarians here.
Good berries.
"Listen to the Izzet-looker guy! Those guys are real smart!"
They tasted red. Why haven't I bolted yet?
"If you want to find out why we're in books then we have to head for the temple."
I feel hungry. And fuzzy. kinda warm.
"4 Fingers and the Half Person should only get 4/5ths and half a vote, so majority wins!"
Hobwor looks around and sees that not everyone looks to be convinced by his brilliniat political maneuvering.
Thank god for behavioural studies. Otherwise I never would have learned this little trick.

(I use my lucky necklace to influence the spell's effect on SilentTwin)

"It's a really good idea guys. Please? Do it for Food Man who might be dead now"
"Anyone got any food? Maybe some more berries?"

The short of it: I plead with the group to head for the temple and reinforce my case with a little bit of magical persuasion (that I did not reveal to the group).

OOC- Note to self: Stop designing cardsa at midnight.
