I think that speaks rather highly of Ravnica, all things considered, that gender is such a non-issue in most of Ravnica's subcultures.
I think it might be an extrapolation of Clarke's Law. Any sufficiently advanced technology can be mistaken for magic; likewise, any sufficiently developed system of magic can begin substituting for technology. Since technology, more than anything else, allows balanced gender roles, then the more common place the use of magic, the more that society will come to an equivalent balance of power between the genders.

Ruwin, you're a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.
And Thoctar, YOU, are an apt metaphor that suitably demonstrates my appreciation for you.
@Deckhopper: That makes sense. I think that the amount of complexity magic provides to every day life can't very well outstrip the amount of complexity our technology provides. And even with all this needless complexity, we still find time to complain about social issues like gender equality and that like. (I hope no one is feeling needlessly tri99ered by this.)
I suppose that Ravnica might be technically more "advanced" than a world like ours, but one could assume that even so, if gender issues are a non-issue on Ravnica, it is more likely due to the fact that the populace has more pressing issues to deal with than whether or not women get paid more than men.
Granted, Ravnica has existed as a world-wide city for more than 10,000 years. That's uh... a long time to sort this kind of stuff out. Maybe issues like these just seem archaic to them?
Oh lord, now I'm thinking about the Azorius arguing with the Simic over lifestyle choices.
"You can't marry a viashino! It throws the sanctity of Azor based matrimonial ceremony into the dirt!"
"I can love who I want, regardless of bloodwarmth!"

I like Deckhopper's idea, too. Science and technology, at least in the long term, are great equalizers (although it's worth noting that some of the establishment of the gender binary and a decrease in women's rights in Europe came about due to industrialization--hence the "long term" disclaimer).
Hm, this is really making me feel more like I should write that story I've got bouncing around in my mind about a trangender individual on Ravnica...

I feel bringing up that the character is transgendered takes away from it not mattering on Ravnica.

Well, what I think is interesting to me is that there are probably still complications to being Trans on Ravnica, even if there's no social stigma.
Think about it, probably the people most likely to have the knowledge and tech capable of performing a sex change operation are...
The Simic.
And they have a tendency for adding Frog where it doesn't belong.
Not to mention the inevitable mountain of paperwork that I'm sure the Azorius would introduce into the process.
I don't know, I think there's potential there. It hasn't gelled yet in my mind though as a full narrative. Maybe it wouldn't work. [shrug]

I just think it's a better thought experiment rather than a story point. Then again I'm a firm believer in people shutting the **** up about their gender/religion/political alignment, so I may be biased.

Dahhhh... Karn hugging Urza's head off.
It's Venser. Remember that thing that happened that we don't talk about?
Wait, is that Xantcha?
Jhoira.
Man, Demento, get in the game! D:<
1. I actually, I didn't read those books, so nope! Also, Karn totally took Urza's severed head and used his eyes to power his doom laser, so it made sense (besides not looking much like Urza at all).
2. I thought it looked like Jhoira, but then I realized that Karn had Xantcha's heart, and that made so much more sense than the girl who wasn't as mean as Teferi.
