Mana Drain for the $$$

Seriously though, dragonfly works for me.
Flag Ulcaster January 31, 2013 8:20 AM PST
Yeah, I guess Dragonfly for a very unexciting second pick.
Flag silentbobus January 31, 2013 8:32 AM PST
Mana Drain is by far the best pick in the pack. I think I'd just go ahead and hate draft it.

I'm going to second this.  Giving an opponent the chance  to cast any number of hugely costed creature early in the game is just wrong.  Considering how mediocre the rest of the pack is, I'd have no problem hating Mana Drain in this pack.  Not like the Dragonfly is really going to amount to much for us anyway.

Cat Warriors should be unblockable often.

I'll get on board this ship.

Aye.

Flag Herid_Fel January 31, 2013 10:59 PM PST
Mana Drain. I'm less worried about the acceleration and more worried about it stopping Moat or another bomb. Funny - without mana burn, it's even better.
Flag brockfanning January 31, 2013 11:53 PM PST
Dragonfly.

And granted, the hard counter is incredible.  But considering how fat this set is, the added acceleration is something you do not want to give them under any circumstances.  Also considering that there is almost no hard removal in the set, if they do get one of their fat fatties out early it's going to be a bad time for us.

Flag FirstTurnKill February 1, 2013 8:18 AM PST
Chain Lightning.  But I could be convinced to take the Egg, as well.
Flag rstnme February 1, 2013 8:18 AM PST
Red Mana Battery could help us. Chain lightning looks cool though.

EDIT: switch mah vote.
Flag silentbobus February 1, 2013 8:41 AM PST
The bolt looks like the clear winner in this pack.
Flag brockfanning February 1, 2013 8:44 AM PST
I think Wolverine Pack is better than Chain Lightning for us.
Flag Arioch22 February 1, 2013 8:47 AM PST
I think I'll go Chain Lightning as well.
Flag Falcon_Uk February 1, 2013 8:52 AM PST
Chain Lightning
Flag EyeHunter February 1, 2013 9:44 AM PST
Chain Lightning.
Flag Ulcaster February 1, 2013 10:02 AM PST
I'd love to take the egg, but Chain Lightning is really good for us.
Flag Escef February 1, 2013 10:13 AM PST
Chain Lightning, though I could go for some eggs.
Flag silentbobus February 2, 2013 9:08 AM PST
I'll take an Archer here.
Flag Falcon_Uk February 2, 2013 9:32 AM PST
I agree with the archer here.
Flag FirstTurnKill February 2, 2013 10:03 AM PST
I would agree with the Archer.
Flag Ulcaster February 2, 2013 10:59 AM PST
I'll also agree with the Archer.
Flag EyeHunter February 2, 2013 11:07 PM PST
Archer.
Flag Herid_Fel February 3, 2013 3:35 AM PST
Sure thing. Archer.
Flag silentbobus February 3, 2013 9:53 AM PST
Look, it's Master of the Wild Hunt s gimpy cousin. I think this format might be slow enough to make it the pick though, certainly a good mana dump once you've played out all of your other spells.
Flag Arioch22 February 3, 2013 9:55 AM PST
Master of the Hunt seems like the way to go. Token producers in a slow format are good.
Flag EyeHunter February 3, 2013 10:26 AM PST
Master.
Flag Ulcaster February 3, 2013 11:30 AM PST
Sure, Master's fine. Immolation looks good too.
Flag Escef February 3, 2013 2:31 PM PST
Master.
Flag JBTM February 3, 2013 3:44 PM PST
Master seems good.  And are we going to get two more Effigies on the wheel?
Flag Falcon_Uk February 4, 2013 4:24 AM PST
Master
Flag rstnme February 4, 2013 6:31 AM PST
The card with those dogs that look vaguely like the offspring of pomeranians and irish wolf hounds.

(Master.)
Flag FirstTurnKill February 4, 2013 9:07 AM PST
A few decent picks here for us with Radjan, Archer, and Pyro.  But, I'll take Pyro.
Flag Falcon_Uk February 4, 2013 9:08 AM PST
I agree with Pyro here.  Second choice would be the archer over the spirit.
Flag rstnme February 4, 2013 9:18 AM PST
Pyro
Flag silentbobus February 4, 2013 9:30 AM PST
Pyro seems like remarkably strong removal.
Flag EyeHunter February 4, 2013 7:05 PM PST
I've always loved Pryrotechnics.
Flag Escef February 4, 2013 11:48 PM PST
Pyrotechnics. The Spirit is tempting with Moat, but it's only one card, can't build the entire deck around it.
Flag Herid_Fel February 5, 2013 6:29 AM PST
Pick 6 Pyrotechnics? Man, I wonder what else was in this pack.
Flag brockfanning February 5, 2013 6:48 AM PST
Wow, Pyrotechnics, awesome. We may want to cut Land Tax, Moat, and Johan, and just go with a focused Red/Green deck.

edit: Just counted ~18 playables in Red/Green, so depending on what we draft in this last pack, we may need white too. Would be nice if we could focus on 2 colors though. Or maybe just splash white for Johan.
Flag rstnme February 5, 2013 8:58 AM PST
Immmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmolation is the obvious, correct, and right pick here.

Except, wtf, that lep looks so randomly tempting awesome i cannot even use commas
Flag Arioch22 February 5, 2013 8:59 AM PST
Immolation
Flag brockfanning February 5, 2013 9:01 AM PST
Ooh, speaking of splashing, I like Untamed Wilds. Immolation is good too... I guess I'm happy with the red removal we already have.  Won't mind either way, though.
Flag Falcon_Uk February 5, 2013 9:06 AM PST
Immolation
Flag silentbobus February 5, 2013 9:34 AM PST
I was thinking about this, and I don't remember this being a set with a lot of low toughness creatures that were threatening in other ways. For that reason and because it looks like the deck will be tri-color / high cost I am leaning towards the Untamed Wilds.
Flag JBTM February 5, 2013 10:24 AM PST
I'm gonna go with Wilds here.  We've got expensive stuff to play, and dropping our big dudes one turn earlier (at least) could make all the difference.  I like Immolation, but I think the Wilds is more valuable to us right now.  Plus I think there's a decent chance we'll be able to pick up another Immolation next pack if we want to play two.
Flag isaic16 February 5, 2013 1:05 PM PST
I like Wilds, but more for the fixing than the acceleration.  It's worth a lot to actually be able to cast those weird legends.
Flag Herid_Fel February 5, 2013 11:55 PM PST
Immolation. Between Land Tax and Sylvan Library, I am feeling OK for playing three colors. Untamed Wilds has a poor interaction with Land Tax as it is.
Flag rstnme February 6, 2013 8:26 AM PST
Seeker is going to hurt.
Flag silentbobus February 6, 2013 8:34 AM PST
I'd rather just take the turtle, it looks pretty epic.
Flag brockfanning February 6, 2013 8:47 AM PST
Huge Turtle.
Flag Arioch22 February 6, 2013 9:11 AM PST
Storm Seeker! One of the first fun/casual decks I remember building back in the day was this, Black Vise , Prosperity , Channel and probably some ramp or something. Good stuff.

Probably go Turtle here though because Storm Seeker is likely to be a four mana ping in a draft most of the time I would think.
Flag Escef February 6, 2013 12:32 PM PST
Indestructible Aura, just to have a combat trick.
Flag Falcon_Uk February 6, 2013 2:59 PM PST
Okay, let's do all the summon turtle jokes again Surprised
Flag EyeHunter February 6, 2013 4:57 PM PST
Turtle.
Flag Herid_Fel February 6, 2013 11:02 PM PST
Giant Turtle it is.
Flag isaic16 February 7, 2013 9:46 AM PST

Effigy.
Flag JBTM February 7, 2013 10:45 AM PST
Effigy, and there should be another one coming around soon.

Yeah, not really a lot of thinking for this one.

Flag silentbobus February 8, 2013 8:30 AM PST
I'd rather take a Kobold, this pack is very silly.
Flag brockfanning February 8, 2013 8:38 AM PST
Since this pack is silly, am I crazy for not wanting to run Land Tax or Moat? I feel like we got pushed into heavy green/red, and really got jack for white. Land Tax doesn't seem good if it's not played early, which means not good on the splash. Moat is double-white, so less splashable. Not to mention, we don't really have win conditions after Moat goes down.
Flag JBTM February 8, 2013 10:09 AM PST
We could easily go with just RG, the only white worth splashing is Johan and even he isn't amazing.  And our mana will be much better without having to rely on Land Tax.

Bull is the obvious pick here.

Flag EyeHunter February 9, 2013 3:57 PM PST
Holy day.

Out of 5 cards I don't want to play, Holy Day is the one I want to avoid playing against.  I couldn't tell you how many Limited games I've lost to Fogs.

Well, if we are willing to play Raging Bulls, we've got 23 playables in red/green. That worked out nicely. 4 Blazing Effigies is pretty cool.
Flag Falcon_Uk February 11, 2013 7:56 AM PST
Thanks CG

The best part of this draft was definitely the summoning the turtle conversation.

I count 25 in red/green (plus Active Volcano and Kobold), so we can drop 2 cards.  I would say The Brute and Floral Spuzzem look weakest, but both have sideboard potential.

Flag FirstTurnKill February 11, 2013 1:35 PM PST
Thanks, CG!

I'd probably splash White for Land Tax, Archers, and Vultures.  I'd pass on maindecking Moat, but I wouldn't mind keeping it at the top of my sideboard, as a backup plan.
