Can't see a player blocking Ob with Baneslayer. They would have to see the combat trick coming.

This thread is hilarious to me now because even after reading it, I just did the exact same thing with Jace's Phantasm .

Granted, it was a standoff situation (he had Phantasms, I had Winged Coatl s) where I baited him to block my 3/3 with his 5/5 flyer so I could shrink his 5/5 with Omnibian . Instead it becamse 7/7. I still lost my guy, he didn't lose his, but the overall state of the game didn't change.

Still funny because I've been playing DotP since '09 and Magic in general for almost 2 decades, and it's still so simple an error to make the first time/s you play the deck.

I equipped a sword of body and mind to a mind controlled creature yesterday. It's even more hilarious when you know the rule, because you'll immediately facepalm and feel totally embarassed. It's just easy to forget some aspects, when you're not paying attention.

When you have an effect that turns a creature into a 3/3 and a buff from an ability or counters, you may wonder which applies first. I see that this is confusing to new players and can only be answered by rule knowledge, not logic alone. However, if you're not willing to learn every rule in advance (which is almost impossible), you're always gonna encounter situations that make you wonder. If you keep looking these things up after games, you'll soon have a solid understanding of the game's mechanics that might even be enough for an educated guess in new cases. However, there are so many different interactions, we can't have a thread for everything, not even with such a limited card pool like in dotp. The players need to look this stuff up on demand, not in preparation and they can do so by looking up the rules and asking experienced players.

Noob thread. Someone needs to stop being lazy and learn the rules.

Another one.  I learned the rules, and posted them for others to see - maybe someone needs to stop being lazy and learn how to read.  I like reading about other people's games, especially when they link card names.  That's what this forum is about - DotP related stuff.  Don't like it?  Instead of spamming my thread with another ignorant reply, just skip it.

I did the same thing against serra ascendant . The funny thing is that I know the layers rules.  Just a dumb mistake, that cause me  to loose a good creature in combat and then the game.

Happens all the time, if you're not super focused. Just like skipping your main phase, trying to play a land/spell while the timer progresses. It's good that they changed this, but my muscle memory takes charge when I watch tv simultaneously.

And it's so much easier to sleep-walk through DotP than paper Magic where you simply don't make those kinds of mistakes. I've done a lot of fairly legendary foul-ups in DotP.

Using a Plane effect to put multiple attacking copies of Phage the Untouchable in play against defenseless opponents. Seemed like a masterful play at the time...
In 2012 I Time Warp ed my opponent because I wasn't paying close enough attention.
Also in 2012 I used a Pacifism effect on Kozilek which left my "destroy" removal for Indestructible Ulamog. They were side-by-side and I clicked the wrong one.

Stuff like that.

So - in which cases Omnibian is useful? I mean really useful, like proper 4 mana creature?

It works just fine on creatures that are natural bigger that 3/3
It allows you to trade 1/1 creatures with 3/3 creatures
It can boost a creature thats weaker than 3/3 that has already a tokens or other boosting effects higher.
It can prevent some type specific effects, like:
Master of the Wild Hunt to keep one of the wolves of your partner untaped for a attack or to block.
Goblin Grenade or Siege-Gang Commander if only one goblin is on the field
Necromancer's Covenant If you have a blocker who can block a 3/3 without being able to kill a 2/2,its better to turn a zombie into a frog instead of risking to loose your omniban to a Zealous Persecution when you kill-block it or allowing your opponent to get 2LP

Omnibian  has quite a few uses.

1. He is a 4 drop in a deck with very few, so if your worried about your curve then there you go.

2. Because he is blue/green he fully activates Momir Vig, Simic Visionary  and Fable of Wolf and Owl , two of the most important cards in the deck.

3. He can turn "many" troublesome creatures ( Lord of Extinction ) into a much more manageable 3/3 frog. Yes as mentioned before this is foiled by counters but there are still many targets of value.   Griselbrand   Nightmare   Primalcrux   to name just a few.  Anytime my 3/3  Omnibian  can trade with what was a 30/30 Primalcrux  thats pretty useful.

4. He can also turn a lowely 1/1 ( Coiling Oracle )  into a more battle worthy 3/3.

5. He plays extremely well with Murkfiend Liege  due to his mixed color cost

6. Aside from usefulness Omnibian  is one of the most flavorful cards in the deck and that can be important to some. He screams Simic!

I am in no way saying he rivals some 4 drops, cough( Phyrexian Obliterator )  but in a deck that loves trickery and mutation I think he has a home especially in 2hg

When dj_btrue enters the forum exile all bad attitudes.
