If a creature with trample targets a planeswalker, and the planeswalker is blocked by a creature, does the Trample carry over to the planeswalker, or to the player?

The reason I ask is because the player usually take the damage as a result of trample (since you target the player), however the case of planeswalkers the planeswalker is the target, so I wasn't sure if the target was what takes the trample damage, or if its specifically an effect that only applies when a player is targeted.

702.18b The controller of an attacking creature with trample first assigns damage to the creature(s) blocking it. Once all those blocking creatures are assigned lethal damage, any remaining damage is assigned as its controller chooses among those blocking creatures and the player or planeswalker the creature is attacking. When checking for assigned lethal damage, take into account damage already marked on the creature and damage from other creatures that’s being assigned during the same combat damage step, but not any abilities or effects that might change the amount of damage that’s actually dealt. The attacking creature’s controller need not assign lethal damage to all those blocking creatures but in that case can’t assign any damage to the player or planeswalker it’s attacking.

Also, trample doesn't target, so things like hexproof won't stop it.
I'm all about super-control in MTG. If you're able to stop my shenanigans, then there aren't enough shenanigans.

Attacking doesnt target, and it is the attacking creature (not the planeswalker that is being attacked) that is blocked.

That makes no sense to me.

If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY

I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

To the planeswalker.
