I wept tears of joy when goblin grenade entered standard again. I wept tears of sadness when it left. I am looking to recreate it in some fashion for standard legal. That's when I came across the thought of using the stack to get Auger Spree on a Goblin Arsonist in combination with Fling to effectively re-create it.

Would it work if I Fling the Goblin Arsonist and, on the stack, then cast Auger Spree on the stack. Thus making a 5/-3 Arsonist that is sacrificed? Or would the Auger Spree resolve first, killing the Goblin before I can Fling it?

If so, could I effectively cast Auger Spree on the Arsonist, then put Fling on the stack, allowing Fling to resolve first, and in effect, allowing Auger Spree to ramp him before the sacrifice?

Or am I completely SOL?

That will not work. Goblin arsonist is already in the graveyard, since you just sacrificed it to pay for fling's cost. Auger spree cannot target cards in the graveyard.

No, that doesn't work. If you cast Fling first, then you have to sacrifice the goblin as a cost, so it is dead by the time anyone can respond. If you cast Auger Spree on the goblin first instead, then responding with Fling will make its target illegal (the goblin being dead before the Spree can resolve). If you let the Spree resolve, then the goblin is dead by state based action (it has 0 or less toughness) before you get priority again to cast Fling . There is no way to combine those two spells in the way you want.

Thanks for the quick response. Basically I am SOL. Therefore, I curse the mortals at Wizards for removing my favorite combo from FNM.

Is there any combo you guys can think of that would give me the effect of using fling in a BR combo deck to immitate Goblin Grenade?

Arms Dealer is similar, although it can't target players.

the combo doesn't work unfortunately...if fling resolves first your auger spree wont be able to target arsonist because he's already in the graveyard, and vice versa

Closest I can think of is an undying Flayer of the Hatebound plus Auger Spree is 9 to the face.  Auger Spree can also be used on other undying creatures for 4+ the creature's power damage to the face whilst the Flayer is on the battlefield.

Cheers
