I have a question about the card Etched Oracle . Am I able to block and then pay 1 colorless mana to remove the four counters which allows me to draw three cards, but puts him to a 0/0? Does he die immediately, making him unable to block, or would he have died at end of turn as 0/0 anyway, even if I didn't initially decide to block?

Once a creature is blocked, it remains blocked for the remainder of the combat.

That will kill your Oracle, and it won't be around to deal any damage to the attacker, but it will stop the attacker from damaging you unless it has trample.

Yes, you can do that.

Technically the Oracle won't die imidiately, but it'll die before you have the ability to do anything else.

If a blocking creature is killed during combat, the attacking creature remains blocked.  If you blocked a creature with power 4 or greater, this would be a good plan.

So you're saying I can block the creature and play the ability? I don't have to choose one?

As long as you use the ability after declaring it as a blocker, but before it gets killed.

Yes, you can declare it as a blocker (as the declare blockers step begins), and then play the ability (during the declare blockers step).

Yes it is legal to declare the oracle as a blocking creature. Yes it is legal to activate the oracle anytime you have priority. Yes both players get priority after blocking has been declared but before the combat step.

Yes you can do that. Any other questions you really wish went the other way?

If the creature you are blocking has less than 4 power you'd be better off to let combat damage resolve, so their creature dies, and then use the ability.

If the creature you are blocking has trample and 5 power, then you could block and sac, but they would get to assign 5 damage as though you hadn't blocked.
