Yea, I read Test of Metal. Luckily I didn't pay for it, I just hung out at Borders for a couple hours. Bolas was uh. Less than. What I was expecting, to be nice about it. See, I think he has such potential but its like they've totally forgotten what he was like pre-mending and just sort of slapped him everywhere. Which is nice, because I get a lot of cool art for my Bolas deck, but... It makes me sad for the character.

I don't really have anything to add to the Bolas conversation, but this Onion article reminded me of you all.

Unless your goal is to present a muddled mess, or you are Charles Dickens, you should never let a paragraph extend past about 10 lines.
There's a difference?
I would've chosen H P Lovecraft for that gag, personally...
Seriously, I am in awe of the sheer incomprehensibility of some of the single paragraph, single page, single sentence combos in Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath.
@Thoctar:
I... I think I am Strawman Johnny though. T_T I just want someone else to sit there in awe as I construct my 20 card combo.
Have I mentioned that I am actually a rather terrible player?
@Yxoque:
I think the problem with not being jerks is that there's still not a lot of design space for high profile blue-black characters where their jobs correspond to their color without seeming cliche. If uh... that made sense at all.
Just look at the example Jivan and I both ended up deciding was too cliche. It's difficult, I think, to design a character that is both Dimir colors, AND a generally decent person, AND occupying a role that feels relevant to those colors, WITHOUT feeling really contrived.
I think there's some potential with the route I'm taking (U/B architect that is trying to escape a bad contract, and manifest his artistic vision without any constraints--sort of a Randian artist type from what I understand of The Fountainhead and some of her other stuff along those lines). The story happened to bend another way, though, to the point where he does end up being rather villainous (although he is, admittedly, just one villain among many, MANY villains on many sides). That kind of elastic pull of the narrative could just be my own failure of imagination, but it could indicate that the pieces, when set this way, tend to move in a certain pattern that is particularly difficult to break from, if that makes sense.

EDIT: Who the hell is Daria? I kept thinking you guys were talking about Magic's Daria, but that doesn't seem to fit at all. Did I totally fail basic reading comprehension at some point in this thread?
I haven't read Lovecraft, so I'll take your word for it. From what I understand, though, it sounds like the perfect context for incomprehensible sentence structure. Mostly, I just wanted to make fun of Dickens. Because it's fun. (don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Tale of Two Cities. But Oliver Twist could have been cut by about 40% and not missed anything.
Also, a Randian protagonist sounds like about the ideal description of a U/B protagonist.

So I just spent about an well over an hour creating a program to solve a terrible math pun. I think I might need help. Heh, math jokes

Go on, ask me the fouriest versions of numbers. The program is currently limited to Bases 2-36, and integers less than 2^31 ( 2,147,483,647 for the curious).

I picked up Darksiders: The Abomination Vault. I like the game and the series creator, Joe Madeuira is... well, something of a comic book legend. As in, at the height of his career, it took him 14 months to produce an issue of a series that he INSISTS he still plans to finish. The guy is amazing and really was a major artistic force back when he was doing things. But good god he couldn't actually work to save his life. Spent all his time playing video games and drawing up plans to make video games. The real thing that made me actually go ahead and pick the book up was because.... well wouldn't you look at who the writer is.

Hehehe that's wonderful. I dream of the day when I finally receive tenure... [rubs hands together]
Give me... oh hell, someone's going to suggest these anyway, so do 314, 612, and 1025!
@Barinellos:
Let me know how it is! I keep meaning to pick up a few more of Ari's books. I quite liked the non-Magic book that I read (whose name escapes me at the moment).
