How do you guys feel about the emerging Omni Ramp decks? Just curious as I playtested against it a bit yesterday. I'm still so new to the match-up I think I made mistakes playing against it, but it seems managable.

Its been around for a few months now. The deck only exsists because of cavern of souls. Play some counterspells and you pretty much auto-win.
Or, play rakdos and just kill them.

I guess I've just not seen it at my meta. I can see it being manageable. I only played 2 games against it 1-1 with UWR Mid. Only problem I had was things like Farseek into Rangers into Sphinx Rev EoT.

It hasn't been a popular deck at all. It only got popular because of Travis Woo and LSV And I'm not a huge fan of Murican Midrange. Person at LGS is sold with it, even though I've stomped him with a billion different decks.

It's Bant Control but more crazy **** clogging up its hand in the early game.
It's really not even about giving niche cards to black.
It should be about giving black cards to Niche.

I have mixed feelings about it. -On one hand, It's fantastic that standard is such a lax format that allows you to play just about anything that isn't just outright bad, and some things that are. -On the other, if dumb mythic decks are competitively viable, where are the checks that normally keep them in place? I'm pretty sure that Rewind is one of the better counters, and if Rewind and Dissipate aren't good enough to prevent stupid combos then what are we to expect? Maybe a fair unfair format could be fun? A couple of months ago I pointed out that I disliked the Bant Control lists because they won "by virtue of being bigger than everybody else", and this seems like the logical extreme of that train of thought.

Point 1) Welcome to the original Ravnica metagame. Point 2) Obviously counters would be good against these giant derp decks, but WotC doesn't like counterspells.
And winning by virture of being bigger than everybody else is the essence of a control deck. Trying to get why you act like its special.

Yeah, counters would strop the giant derp decks. Maybe. Or you could still just lose to giant derps and small beats because of Cavern of Souls :P

That's one of those decks that is totally overwhelming when it works, but is horrible when it doesn't. I've lost a lot of game ones against it where I didn't see it coming until too late, but it seems very manageable once I know what to expect. I've been running GW aggro variations (mostly humans) with mixed success for a few weeks now. I'm going to try out a ramp deck tonight that includes a copy of Omniscience , though I'm not sure that it's necessary. My thought process was that so long as I have Gilded Lotus and Somberwald Sage as sources for the triple blue plus some card draw, why not throw in a copy?
