Hi everyone. I know I have a bad habit of posting crappy homebrew decklists. Lately, however I've been able to do a lot more testing with a lot more cards before yapping about something I think is cool and worth trying in legacy. I appologize if I've ever been that guy who just won't listen when you're trying to explain why my idea won't work. I'm too stubborn sometimes.
This time I'm playing something that's not the most innovative thing yet, but it's surely not a common archetype. This deck is built around Past in Flames, IMHO the most flashy red card ever printed. I've won game 2 against control through counter magic including daze and force. Past in Flames.dec has potential to be pretty resilient I think. Before I go any further, this is what my testing list looks like right now, but I change things up and try to optimize once or twice a day during testing.
4 Past in Flames 1 Banefire Sometimes it's very easy to get 21 mana. I LOVE Banefire kills. 1 Brain Freeze Easy to cast with LED, Petal, and Mnmrphs. 4 Rite of Flame 4 Desperate Ritual 4 Seething Song 4 Goblin Lore If I love this as much as I think I will I'm running 8 x copies 4 Faithless Looting This deck is loot, make mana, go big 4 Burning Inquiry It has actually hit hate before, an opponent noted disliking his inability to keep things safe from it with brainstorm. 4 Simian Spirit Guide 4 Manamorphose 4 Lion's Eye Diamond 4 Lotus Petal 4 Gamble Banefire, Brain Freeze, and Rite of Flame 5-8 sometimes I grab past in flames with it but that's easy to loot away 4 Scalding Tarn 6 Mountain
I want to make this work because it can work through countermagic and the only other issue is graveyard hate. If I can find 15 cards that stop graveyard hate this should work.
I've played and considered a pretty big card pool for this. I almost thought I found a home for Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded , he just gets replaced by cards that do what he does bigger, better, and from more places. Golgari Grave-Troll was sitting in Goblin Lore's current slot. I haven't done testing since this change was made, but Grave-Troll makes it nearly impossible to whiff after Past in Flames. Gitaxian Probe is useful, it might playable in some version of this deck, but I tested it extensivley and found that I always wanted it to be some sort of looting instead of a free cantrip. The peek effect isn't really going to change how you play usually.
Although it is still in relatively early development, I have drawn some nut hands and played some impressive spell chains. The biggest problem is that Wizards Hates the Graveyard . How do I kill this thing in mono red? Is it really a race to try and go off before RIP hits?
Questions, comments, suggestions. I'd love all the constructive criticism you can think of for the deck and myself. Seeking guidance primarily on destroying Rest in Peace for 0-2 mana on color. Another important topic is your breakdown/prediction of my MUs for game 1 in theory, regarding the list above.
Thanks
MGDerek, your friendly neighborhood noob.

needs more vexing shusher in the board, imo. i like this deck idea, and with tweaking it could work. best fix for rest in peace is to make your deck able to play around it. youre thinking about how to get around it from the wrong perspective. however, you might consider a blast from the past: nevinyrral's disk for enchantment removal. just off the top of my head.
ss, dammit

Looks pretty familiar. Goblin Lore is exactly what I was looking for. Seems good. Also, Nostalgic Dreams . Works best if you run the Dredge package like I do, but is still amazing.

Chaos Warp is the best way for mono-red to deal with enchantments, but I agree you would probably be better off being able to play around it rather than relying on an answer. Maybe you could figure out a sideboard that transforms you into a Storm deck rather than a graveyard deck. If not, Ground Seal could work to avoid Extirpate effects, and splashing green in general might help deal with hate cards. It has Xantid Swarm / Autumn's Veil (Veil may be better in this deck being an instant), Nature's Claim / Simplify / Back to Nature , and more that I can't think of right now.

Okay, itemized responces: 1. Shusher is too mana intensive and counter magic is not my main concern. Gamble baits most of it effectively. 2. Same goes for disk, but that card is in EVERY casual and EDH deck I build. The true catch-all answer. 3. Dreams looks pretty crazy good. But splashing Green will make this deck a whole other monster. I'm sure I'll make a splash version eventually. 4. Chaos Warp may be the answer I need for RIP. It's kind of costy but worth it if I can manage the mana. Over on MTGSalvation I'm discussing a Transforming/Wishboard for answers to the hatebears that can surely ruin me and playing around RIP and Leyline of the Void. I'm planning to test 4 Goblin Charbelcher and 1 Empty the Warrens in the board. I know I can't use the belcher to the same extent it's namesake deck can but as a suprise board plan I think it's going to work. Once I'm satisfied with the Mono Red version I'm really interested in splashing green. I originally planned to use green in the first draft of the deck. I figured, however, that I should try to get the job done in one color first. I'm more interested in resilience and inevitability than speed and I figured needing only one color of mana (save for brain freeze) was better for that. Thanks for the help so far everyone! PM me if you wanna help test it.
