This is more powerful against creatures with militance. Wait, is that the bankaimechanic that stops you from editing the creature's power and toughness or the one that stops it from ever leaving the battlefield for any reason even after the game is over.

Probably the bankaimechanic that makes you want to kill the designers. Just like the rest.

Sometimes the abilities you want for a narrow card like this are just slightly awkward to put into text, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

which is why text should be as succinct as possible

it's subject to -1/-1 attacks unless those are also absorbed

Double Strike, multiple blockers, -1/-1 counters/debuffs. cats' version looks more difficult to kill during combat.

Actually, it's possible to replace "combat damage" with "damage" to make the card a lot more different from and much weaker than absorbing 3/1 creatures, but then it's hosed by lots of random cards..

Absorb prevents each instance of damage, so double strike and multiple blockers are handled about equally.

Originaly version is a bit more interesting when double-blocking.

I'm feeling like dumb now. You're right.

It DOES look like absorb, but I feel the slight differences are worth it.
