So im trying to construct a deck that is all about vampires in the black series.  Right now im trying to get ideas and i came up with some cards to have.

Vampire Nocturnus
vampire hexmage
vampire nighthawk
dark ritual
Dark Depths

Now dark depths and vampire hexmage are combo cards that will be used together.

Like i said, these are just ideas and im trying to construst a vampire deck.  After a couple days i'll post a deck that i come up with along with any ideas that are given.

dark depths combo works best with urborg, tomb of yawgmoth . You can play one of them turn 1, the other turn 2 and cast vampire hexmage that same turn and get a marit lage token turn 2.

I have always liked the most aggressive vampire decks which means vampire lacerator and bloodghast . That also means I stay away from the 5CMC or more vampires with the exception of malakir bloodwitch who I've played as a finisher.

captivating vampire is played in most vampires lists that I've seen (especially mono black vampires because it's not like there are a bunch of better options).

Don't be too smart to have fun

Gatekeeper of Malakir is a very common card in mono black vamps.  For some removal i would consider Feast of Blood and Tendrils of Corruption .

lashwrithe and nightmare lash are good in mono, especially if you put them on vampire nightwing to drink your life back right away.

I second Gatekeeper of Malakir if your playing Dark Ritual . Turn 1 kicked Gatekeeper is nasty if you're playing 2nd.

Liliana Vess can work wonders for Vampire Nocturnus . Top card on deck not black? Use Lili's 2nd and MAKE it black (like another Nocturnus ).

Sign in Blood is almost an auto include. A Necropotence or 2 if your table allows it. Necro can also help with stacking the top card for Nocturnus. I've found the life gained with the Nighthawks gives you what you need to fuel Necro.

I've found that 2 cards in particular can allow you to play your deck in a very aggro fashion, and still be able to evolve into something more midrange capable when you run up against decks that you can't power through in 5ish turns. Bloodline Keeper / Lord of Lineage and Guul Draz Assassin . Bloodline will pump out more creatures and make them bigger, and is also great for using Malakir Bloodwitch as a finisher. Guul Draz Assassin can play as a simple 1-drop, or if the game goes longer, can grow into some possible removal, and a pretty large body in and of itself.

Speaking of  Malakir Bloodwitch , yes, it's an awesome finisher. If you have them, add Mutavault s. They can pump the Bloodwitch's count, and can also help with meeting the 2 vampire condition of Feast of Blood .

Also, it's too easy nowadays to splash red in a vamp deck.  Stromkirk Captain is better than Captivating Vampire , and first strike Nighthawks ROCK. Just don't go nuts with the red. My best vamp list for 1-on-1 splashes red, and the only cards I'm running with red are the Captain, Terminate , and Dreadbore . This makes sure that all non-land cards are black to meet Nocturnus' condition. I run no artifacts for that reason as well.

Another underrated finisher, IMO, is Sanguine Bond . every bit of life you gain deals damage to opponent, and lets you cap the game with Malakir Bloodwitch much earlier. Tough card to find room for though, and quite often doesn't last very long. But if you time it well, it can end a game a couple of turns early.

I too am a fan of gatekeeper and Kalastria Highborn < /span> if you are looking at the hexmage dark depths combo probly toss in 4 Diabolic Tutor so you can have the chance of finding them faster. As for other suggestions myself i run alot of hand distruption in my vamps and it has had some good outcomes. Stuff like Distress Duress Hymm to Tourach etc... I have had games where i can just completerly shut down what they want to do.
The rough part is finding a decent amount of vamps to round a mana curve 1cc vamps are kinda slim pickings i like Pulse Tracker  myself and i also like splash red into my vamps mainly for other removal/dmg  Lightning Bolt and Blightning which imo blightning is just nasty with 3 dmg and discarding 2. Then you can sideboard Smelt and  Surgical Extraction stuff like that. If you want to keep it mono black its really a fun kinda card not to practical but Sadistic Sacrament i mean if you can manage to get enough with dark ritual 15 cards out of the deck is just insane and still even with 3 mana for 3 cards is not too bad and can put a dent in some decks strats.

Well I decided to change my mind and go with a red/black vampire deck.  i will post my black vampire deck but be free to add red cards where needed and take out cards that you don't think belong.  and of course, leave any comments or suggestions.

20 swamp
4 Captivating Vampire < /span>
2 Vampire Nocturnus < /span>
2 Guul Draz Assassin < /span>
3 Vampire Hexmage < /span>
4 Vampire Nighthawk < /span>
3 Bloodghast < /span>
3 Bloodline Keeper/Lord of Lineage < /span>
4 Dark Ritual < /span>
2 Dark Depths < /span>
2 Liliana Vess < /span>
4 Hymn to Tourach < /span>
3 Feast of Blood < /span>
4 Demonic Tutor < /span>

Like i said, im changing this from just mono black to both red and black VAMPIRE deck.

The only thing I'd change, IF you just can't live without that Hexmage/Depths combo, is swapping Captivating Vamp for Stromkirk Captain and Hymn for Terminate . I wouldn't go with the Stromkirk Noble as a one-drop for two reasons. It's too hard to create a land base that will RELIABLY give you black or red on turn one, and with Dark Rit, you just don't need it. And as awesome as it is, I might even consider dropping Bloodghast for Vampire Lacerator , simply to give you better shot at dropping a creature turn one.

Of course, I wish my table would let me play 4 Demo Tutors.

Corrupt is a worthy card to mention also, though t'is expensive.

Wouldn't play Dark Ritual as you can curve out normally with your deck just as fine. It's not worth the card disadvantage since your three-drops don't disrupt their play and just the Hymn's isn't enough to add them for. Jet Medallion is better with only 20 land , and in fact an option I think is considerable.

I had other ideas as well, but then the thought that I didn't like vampires as a tribe shut them off. I'll try to remember them :/
